Nice and very cool Chisel you have there mate. I have mine, Comp version too but still all stock aside from ODI TLD grips and hopefully to have an upgrade soon. 🤙

Nice! The stock Chisel is awesome. I would recommend a dropper post. It greatly improves the ride! 👍

That is so cool man.i finally got my chisel in May.im so happy with it.just got a crank brothers dropper on it yesterday and it makes such a difference.your wheels and Hub's are super cool looking.they shall be my next upgrade in the future.regards Shane in Ireland 👍

Thanks Shane! Right on man. The dropper makes a huge difference. I cracked my rear wheel but definitely something to consider upgrading when the time is right. 👍

I have a 2022 Chisel that looks like yours. What size dropper (width/vs length) should I get? Can you recommend the right cable to go with the wolf lever? Also, when you swapped wheels, could you not use the center lock rotors that came stock? My friend has a set of wheels for me, but we are not sure if we can swap the 6 bolt mounts for the center lock. Thanks!

Right on! I have a 30.9mm x 150mm dropper post but not sure about the cable since my local bike shop installed the post, cable and lever for me. Correct, the new wheels had 6 bolt hubs so the center lock rotors would not work....you know how it is, you go to change one thing and end up switching out other a bunch of other stuff just to make the first thing work!

Great video. I have a Rockhopper Comp 2021, with MicroShift 1x9. It serves me well on urban use + mid level trail riding. The problem is the suspension. It’s coil and heavy. I’m wondering if I should simply upgrade the fork to something like a RockShox Recon or if it would make more sense to sell the bike and buy another, like a Chisel or Trek X Caliber 9. What would you do?

Thanks! I would probably keep the Rockhopper and upgrade the fork. Also, if the budget allowed, I would install a dropper seat post (it makes a big difference). I hope that helps but let me know what you end up doing.

How big was the difference on the new ROVAL wheelset in terms of overall weight, hub engagement, and feel compared to the stock wheelset? thx

The Roval wheelset is much wider but still lighter than the stock wheels and they feel very sturdy. Also, since the rear hub uses DT Swiss internals, there is a high number of POE and pedaling feels ultra responsive. So far, I have been very impressed with these wheels for the price.

@@ArtFalcon Solid option I'm considering as an upgrade to my stock wheelset on my SJ comp alloy. I dislike the engagement on the stock wheelset i feel it can be better. thx for the insight

Yeah, the Shimano freehub on my stock wheelset literally fell apart and that is what started this round of upgrades

The dropper makes all the difference when decsending on this bike. The new wheels are interesting if and when I need to replace my original ones.

The dropper post does make a big difference and I only upgraded the wheels because I cracked the rear but Specialized did warranty it.

@@ArtFalcon For me it did for going downhills especially if the ground is rough for a couple of reasons. It got the saddle out of the way when I lean back lowered myself so I won't get hit by the saddle in the stomach or any other sensitivere area. The second reason, as you lean back and lower yourself, you are lowring the cener of gravity making the bike handle better and giving you much more control. This gave me more confidence going down steep gnarly hills much faster. I'd say it made a fun bike even more fun to ride, it completes the bike in my opinion.

@Super Dazz You're totally right. The dropper rounds the bike out perfectly. It feels way better and faster on the steep descents now.

What size dropper? I updated my wheels too. I found a used pair of i9 30mm wide wheels. We are basically making a lighter fuse.

150mm. It was a gift but seems to be more than enough drop. 30mm wide wheels are a nice upgrade. The only other thing we could do is change the fork to lighten it up even further.

@@ArtFalcon I went with a fox 34 sc. Granted I built mine up from a frame.

@The Cappy Right on. The other thing that helped lighten it up was the switch to tubeless. I definitely lost some weight without tubes and Slime.

I’m looking at those wheels right now for my ‘21 chisel but the 27.5 version and the plan is to run a 2.6 rubber on them. 🤞

@@ArtFalcon yeah I will. On a ride I had a valve leakage issue so I was forced to run on a super low pressure and the bike felt amazing and sketchy at the same time. Amazing because the rear was more compliant and sketchy because the wheel/tires are too narrow and at times it felt like the tires where going to roll off the rims, so wider and low pressure sounds about right. For reference I ride single track in dry California. Mullet 🍻 🤟

yup, I know exactly what you mean. I was also thinking about getting some wider and knobbier tires for winter. I live in Cali too but eventually it will rain and the trails are gonna go from dry and loose, to wet and slippery. 🌧🤙

Hey Art, I found a used Roval wheelset like yours so I purchased them, I quickly found that they are spec’d for sram which sucks. So if you don’t mind sharing which cassette you have and if it’s compatible with shimano or did you have to completely convert over to sram. You also mentioned a new chain was because of compatibility issues? Thanks in advance.
