THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! My Craftsman self-propelled walk-behind mower crapped out in the middle of doing the yard. No warning, just died. Mower was barely a year old and the 2 year "warranty" would not cover what they said was a carburetor issue (normal "wear and tear" they said was not covered. On a less than 1 year old machine?!?!?!). Shop wanted minimum of $150 to fix (called multiple places and they all said the same). Long story even longer, I watched your video and thought "Hmmm, even I could try that. Got nothing to lose". About 1 hour later I am up and running and my mower is slicing through my (9 inch long and overgrown) lawn like a BEAST! I can't thank you enough for creating a THOROUGH and SIMPLE video for a mechanical moron like myself. I owe you several beers if our paths ever cross. Thank you again, you are a lifesaver! ~Adam~

Just fixed my very similar low-end Bolens mower with a Briggs and Stratton. Almost the same setup. Everything worked right down to the little pop when I pushed a guitar string through the carburetor jet, with a little blob of orange goo coming out. (Only difference is it wasn’t the top hole where I got the pop, it was the center tube.) I wasn’t even really that organized about it, and it took me about an hour. Just mowed my lawn. Only thing different is I didn’t take the float out. (Didn’t see a need to.) And I didn’t pull out the oil because it’s not that old and I haven’t used the mower that much, just let it sit too long with gas in it. Thanks for the video.

Awesome dude! I have that same mower and quit on me today. It's been one pull reliable for years until a tree fell on it and sat out in the weather under limbs all winter. Looks like an easy fix, thanks man!

I have a 2014 MTD 300e. The cheapest one at Home Depot. It is left outside all year around. This Spring is the first year it didn't start due to the carb jet assy. Easy fix and will probably go another several years before it happens again. Just be sure and not use low octane fuel at the pump. Actually the rubber o-ring on the carb will go out and suck in air before the carb will actually fail completely.

Good video, love the attitude! Drian plug on ALL small mowers is under the deck fyi... usually a socket wrench extension fits right in. 3/8" square... Happy tinkering!

Really good video. I cannot get my cover off took the two screws out of the back but it won't pull off thus is a good comprehensive video I think I can do this.

My neighbor just went through this same issue. I told her not to leave gas with enthonal in it over the winter. Run it dry or use non enthonal gas to keep this from happening.

GREAT video! My wife's mower suffers from the same malady. Hopefully, I have cleaned that carb for the last time. I would advise all viewers to save yourselves ongoing misery by buying non-ethanol fuel. Yeah, I know, it's a bit pricey. I'll happily pay the extra to not have to tear down the crappily designed carb several times each mowing season...At the end of the mowing season, run those fuel tanks DRY! Based on the fact you have a 60cc syringe and what appears to be a specimen cup, I'm going to venture a guess that you work in the medical field?.. nonetheless, great vid! Thank you

Loved your video. Where can I get parts like gaskets, etc. to fix my lawnmower. Also is fixing a weed wacker just as easy? My weed wacker is a Craftsman also and uses gasoline mixed with some oil. Doesn’t work now and it think it’s clogged. I’m afraid of attempting to fix it.

Oil drain must be at the bottom of the machine, where the blades are! My grandma's old 51cm MTD has it.

Honestly I’ve only changed the oil in mine once in 5 years and never replaced the plug or filter plus it sits outside uncovered through all the Illinois seasons😂. Today she wouldn’t turn on and I’m assuming this is the issue with mine too lol

I tried a soap dispenser for the oil.

Definitely love it when you get good results from putting in the work but this is why I chose battery powered. Not as powerful as gas but still good enough for me. I do a lot of handy stuff but working on a gas mower isn't one of them. Definite benefit when you're done for the season but you may want to get that mow in on a nice day in November. Maybe I missed it but isn't there an oil plug to pull that'll drain the oil rather than using a syringe?

I really hate cleaning Briggs & Stratton carburetors on the newer models you have to take everything apart. Rather than simply unscrewing the bowl from the bottom. I usually use the wire rapper that comes on light bread. Burn the plastic off leaving just enough at the end to handle the wire. I also have pipe cleaners that you use to clean a settling torch with those are also good when you have to enlarge a jet because of motor is surging good video

just an FYI, you have to screw in that dipstick to get the correct reading.

I think I lost the needle valve while removing it. Either that or it wasn’t there. So it turned on but now it spills gas? Is that why?
