MTEL Prep Session: Communication and Literacy Exam, Writing Subtest 

I waited last minute to prepare, which wasn’t smart hahah, so I’ve been really anxious about my test in a couple days. Luckily I consider myself to be a good active reader but I am awful at standardized tests. Your videos were very very helpful and I loved that they were free and available to anyone who needs them. I hate having to pay money for an extra course when I already payed so much for the test. I feel much more confident going into my test now so thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

Hi there Paige. Sending a thank you your way. I watched your video to take this part of the exam as I am a LMHC and was pursuing a cross-over certification in Adjustment Counseling. I sat a month ago for the MTEL and passed the reading, missed the writing by 5 points. I was not prepared and after watching your video the morning of, I sat yesterday and felt so very prepared. You are so knowledgable and easy to learn from. Thank you again for all of your knowledge.

This is super helpful. I am already a Visual Art teacher and managed to pass the Comm & Lit MTEL with my first certification. I am now using these to help prepare myself for the linguistic knowledge needed for the ESL MTEL, as I still struggle with grammar and writing. Thank you! Ps. I took the online mtel today! The online version was a little stressful. My proctor started my test 30 minutes late and I had a piece of scratch paper on my desk that was plain which is NOT allowed. The online version has a scratch pad on the test that you can use but don’t make my mistake because I had to be reviewed multiple times to make sure I wasn’t cheating. I was already so worked up over all that but I still think I did well

I took the exam 2 weeks ago, unfortunately before this video came out, but I felt really good about it! I was most worried about reading comprehension, but your simple advice of reading the passage and not skimming really made me feel confident when answering MC! I felt pretty good about the writing section already, but unfortunately I didn't realize the second open response would be 300-600 words, so I scrambled at the end (I'm really worried about it because I only wrote about 150 words :()! Btw I used to live in Westfield and went to Summer camp as WSU!

HI! Thank you so much for making these videos, they are really helpful. What does the MTEL prefer for the use of Oxford commas? I was taught to use them, but I think that is now optional.

@41:31 While doing a practice test, I changed the sentence to "He likes to read novels which make him see the world from different perspectives." How is it? I think it does not change the original meaning, but I am not sure since it is not given as a "correct" answer.

Hi Paige! I watched your videos a couple times to prepare for the MTELS and I have to thank you so very much! They were extremely helpful! I passed the reading on my first try but timed out on the writing test! still got a 218 without attempting the essay. With that said, can I skip forward to the essay on the online proctor and go back to the multiple choice? Thank you!

I am just beginning the process of studying and practicing. Are there any practice tests in particular that you recommend? I plan on taking as many "practice tests" as possible, but there are so many study systems out there to choose from!! yikes.

This test was a heads for me but thank God I passed. Spiralxbinuclease on IG were of great help by giving me a deep understanding of the test I am taking.
