I don't always agree with your politics, but I do enjoy your reviews. I've even looked at your reviews to make informed purchase decisions. I do want to get into popper, but no one in my play group plays it so I stick to commander. In the mean time I'm happy to watch you going to Brazil and talking about how magic is having a hard time there. I will let you know that I am a fan of Jermemy form the quartering as well as Des DesalatorMagic. I will still watch the content you supply though as you go that extra bit with things like deck boxes that I'm interested in. Keep it up.

Professor, a question about the magnets on the dragon sheild boxes. Since they are so strong, have you noticed if theyve affected any electronics placed next to them? Id be curious as to whether i should keep them further away from my tablet or cellphone when in my bag or if that wont be an issue.

It does help a lot but its not failproof since you gotta know what you like. At first I had to try a few of them to understand if I liked magnets, flips, plastic, xenokin and etc. At least you can start looking at those that are B+ in your budget range and you gotta find one. So far my favorites are the Legion box (plastic with flip and velcro), boulder, sidewinder/any xenoskin from uguard.

I'm really amused by what seems to be Dragon Shield's philosophy with their products of "if its worth doing, it's worth OVERdoing". The customers complain that their sleeves are too flimsy? We'll give them SUPER strong sleeves. The customer complains that that their deckbox's magnets are too weak? We'll give them SUPER strong magnets.

I was surprised at this one, too, and immediately had to check to see if I forgot how to pronounce the word. What made me do a literal double-take, however, was the spelling of "desiccant" at 13:35 as "descecent." I mean, I've seen occasional typos in the videos or accidental usage of a homophone rather than the correct word, but that's the only egregious misspelling I've seen in all of these. (I'm sorry Prof! I adore your videos.)

My favorite deck box brand to this day is ultimate guard. All of their stuff is honestly just high quality, they don’t fall apart or open randomly. I bought a couple of their plastic deck boxes that just lock together, no magnets, and those have been thrown across rooms and haven’t opened yet. The whole point of this comment though is that the Dragonshield box is honestly pretty impressive and I may try it out.

You may not have considered it on the dragon shield Nest but, you could use the deck side for pulling your cards while playing, and the cover side as a makeshift graveyard. Keeping your cards together and not easily sliding all over the place. I use dragonshield sleeves and every once in a while they get a tad slippery. I feel that should increase the grade some.

See, I find it really easy to open the dragon shield nest. Use one hand on top where identified, same with bottom, but with the bottom hand use your thumb and middle finder on the finder placements, while using your index finger to push up on the bottom lip of the top lid and it lifts right off very simply. This is why I chose the nest as my deck box of choice, especially thanks to the professor's wonderful review. Top of the line materials, easy (when using my technique) to open and close, absolute safety and security of my cards and as a yugioh player i can place the lid in such a way that it acts as a cover so i can just pull my post shuffled cards right out the box while keeping the backs hidden from sight and safe from wandering hands of "observers" when my gaze is otherwise off the deck/box.

Prof I finally got all 5 colors of the Dragon Shield 100+ nest tower. My Pros: As an engineer its beautifully constructed. I agree, the first box I opened was very difficult. The best way or easiest way for me to open is at an angle bottom up without pressing the circle at the corners. Yes, the cards will fall off if not careful. My Cons: Double sleeves Dragon Shield Matte sleeves snugs tightly when putting in the nest. While double sleeves of Ultra-Pro (Matte, Eclipse, Magic Art), Legion and Ultimate Guard (Matte, Metallic, Land) sleeves fits perfectly with enough room for a couple of sleeve token cards. Dice compartment can only hold 6 D20s. Players like me who plays Super friends, Tokens and Counters needs an additional nest for it. At the end of the day its a matter of taste and I will highly recommend it.
@ffamran4068
@ffamran4068 Год назад
Realy late to the party, great vid, i ended up going full dragon shield The one thing to note about the nest/nest+ is that its incredibly difficult to fit 100 double sleeved (dual matte+sealable inners) cards, between 96-99 it gets super tight and requires jiggling cards side to side to fit them in, and 99-100 are close to impossible to get them to fit, and will make the box stretch a tiny bit, with the last card sticking out just a millimeter This doesnt impact the box though (at least not that i can tell, yet) the magnets are just as strong, it closes and opens just as easily(or not, magnets are strong) and the tops of the cards dont touch the top of the box when opening Then again, i am a weakling so your mileage may vary but id recommend against that extreme combination because of the tiniest extra thickness from specifically dual mattes and sealables

Always enjoy your deck box reviews so much! :D As to a box for you to review, I nominate the Codex by Wizard Foundry. You previously reviewed Wizard Foundry's Grimoire, and it had some major issues. I remember seeing this box (prior to seeing your review) and thinking it looked so cool. Along with the bulky grimoire, they now have a single-deck-sized box called the Codex, which appears to have come out in Apr 2017. I wonder if their products would fare any better now? The boxes now feature a latch, and they claim to be "handcrafted from the finest wood" instead of crappy fiberboard (though I notice that there's no longer any mention of "leather").

I love these videos and was anticipating a return of these box reviews. I'm super interested in the titan, but i'd rather struggle with magnets that keep my cards safe, rather than have a hard aluminium box that can't keep it secure. in light of this - and your more recent video - are you going to do any reviews / previews of commander 2018? ALSO! I placed in order on Card kingdom with your code (TCC) - but there's no note or anything that they confirmed the use with the order. any thoughts on that? Thanks again for the content professor!

Hey Prof, can you do the Nest so the longer front goes underneath? So the shorter top of the box aligns with the back? That would give you somewhere to grip, if it works...

One of these "mini usb" ports... well sometimes the Profs age does shine through.

T. Actually, that's a legit thing. There's a difference between micro USB, which almost all Android phones and most small things with rechargable batteries use these days, and mini USB, which was more common several years ago but now is mostly phased out. Something using mini USB released today without a cord is a huge inconvenience because you're far less likely to have one lying around than the extremely common micro USB, which would be reasonable to assume the average person has several of.

But reading other comments makes it clear that it is actually micro USB and the Prof was being an old man. Lol, sorry Prof, I tried!

Great video, the nest 100+ sounds expensive though compared to the not-that-much-smaller nest 100

My counterpoint about there not being an easy way to separate the opened nest box is: you don't have to have the cards in the box before separating the two halves to close. You finish playing, maybe remove tokens from the box, separate the two halves, and then put your deck into the box before closing it.

Professor, do you have the decklist posted for your Feldon deck?

phoo you sure did misspell 'dessicant' in the pro section for the titan. I hope it's okay to jest around a literature professor :). Great review as usual, if only those deckboxes came with a little less branding...

I can’t speak for everyone but I would love to see a video from you talking about some of your favorite works of literature. Anything as profoundly relevant to students as Shakespeare’s work like Macbeth or something in the realm of science fiction you find interesting that some of us may have never even heard of before. English and literature seem to be such a big part of your life and I think it’s a shame we don’t get to see more of it. Love your videos.

I was looking into the nest, and i was think the same thing about it being weird to open. My idea was to put a tab or fabric one in between to pull them apart

What about that space on the left from the decks in Opus? Is it free or that's where batteries and stuff is hidden?

Holy shit I actually really love the idea of using the Dragon Shields, especially since you can feasibly play a game without having to remove them from the box. just configure it so the cards are facing the back, and with the front and side exposed, and just play with your deck standing vertically, saves space and stops them from getting knocked over. As I wrote this I realized it might be hard to draw cards this way without giving away information to opponents. Unless maybe you had the back facing the other players or something...

Another excellent and humorous video from the Professor, but I’m gonna be one of those people that ask.. Can you do a deck tech video on Feldon one day in the future? I run him already, but it would be interesting to see your take on him.
