I used to overhaul Garrett Tpe 331 turbines. From the dash 1 to the dash 10 And no, there is no way to quiet them down. It's 100% all the time. And that's why I love em. No hush kits.
The MU-2 is the fastest Turbo Muti engine aircraft and flying this highly powerful performance Aircraft you better be on top of your game especially when you are loaded with passengers and fuel . Great IFR flight to approach to landing and I enjoyed what was said during your flight which is a great reference for pilots who fly this model and I love the sound of the Garret engines and when you're taxiing at Ground idle and using the Beta to save your brakes would really help a lot to save money when it's time for the annual inspection . I remember working to save money for flying when I fuel up one from the outboard wing tips with 50 gallons of JP it didn't work as I thought we'll figure it out whoops
No It would not. The nature of turboprop/jet engines is the power curve climbs steeply past 80 percent turbine speed. At 80;per cent the engine is only producing about 25 percent power. From 80 to 100 percent it produces 75 percent additional power
Not loud in flight, on the ground loudest facing them due to intake and prop being so close, ground RPM about 1500 for the four blade, a little faster for the three blade models.
If you measure the wind speed on the wing tip or nose in level flight at 200-300mph, what would it be behind the propeller? Would it be the same, more, less?
Yes that would effect the reading, airseep is measured in areas of undisturbed air, as you mentioned on the nose, forward of the wing, sometimes under the wing. but not behind the prop...
In the beginning of the video, you see view from above the clouds. Would it be legal to fly your airplane very close to the cloud tops with the intent of dropping slightly into them and turning, disturbing the clouds and having another plane video tape it. Hopefully to catch the first plane causing the cloud tops to turn into vortices making it look like what a surfer would do to a wave or a snow skier would do to the snow during a turn?
Yes possible, the aircraft entering the clouds would have to be on an IFR flight plan, tihe plane photographing would have to be VFR (visual flight rules) and remain at least 500 feet above the cloud deck, they could film from that position.. there may be other options to get the planes closer together but that would involve some formation flying and without both crews trained in that it would be hazardous..
I HATE background music, esp. on aviation vids, so God bless you for sparing us that .. But, right about 10:00, cue piano solo at the end of Sweet Home Alabama .. LOL. That swamp at the end of the runway triggered "Now, Mussel Shoals 's got the Swampers ...". Lol .. Great flying, great photography, great SOUND, great plane, great video, good work everybody involved. Thank you so much for the time and effort to post this. Thoroughly enjoyed it. P.S. Afterthought - just in case you can't remember how that solo goes - take 30 seconds -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OB0nnhCs3JI.html
bluefishbeagle1 --> Fairly recently watched a documentary; History Channel maybe? That was all about the swampers and their influence on pop music .. The size and diversity of the list of songs they played on over those years is just mind-boggling. When asked about that in an interview for this doc, this amazing bass-player lady that looks like your aunt Judy, or the lady at the beauty shop that does your mothers hair, kind of just started shaking her head and glazed over and said something like there isn't any one person who actually knows how many. I wonder if your cousin was mentioned or perhaps even interviewed for this doc? It was excellent; I need to find it on youtube - I had no idea of the scope of their influence until I saw it.
Nice views. But the the Engine was too loud, and louder when it was on the ground. And the sound became rough when it was on the ground. Is that how the Engines Make Noise? Nice video.
The sound was recorded without modification. The camera's mic is sensitive perhaps too much. Some like the sound some do not... thanks for the comment.
Flaps 40 landing, 119 is required (using 40 flap setting) until runway assured then cross the numbers about 105 touch down in the 90 or less range. The aircraft will slow rapidly in the flare, power is not reduced to flight idle until all three wheels are on. IFR approaches on autopilot require 125KIAS minimum (per autopilot limitation) , I usually fly an approach in the 135KIAS range.
@@bluefishbeagle1 I haven't flown one in 30 years but I flew every production model Mitsubishi ever made and have . Great airplane, but we flew 110 kts until starting the flare maneuver unless you were doing a short, short field landing in which case you could fly 100 kts to 100 ft and then begin the power reduction aiming for a firm (not hard) touchdown at about 80-85 kts. That was before the FAA-mandated "type rating" but I did go to Flight Safety on it in Houston. Loved the airplane. Built like a brick house with great performance. My only complaint was the noise level.
Safest way to get some idea of what 275 MPH right down on the deck would be like ... When I get my P-51, I'm going to just hunt around all day for overcasts like this so I can come swooping down from a few thousand feet above the cloud layer, everything firewalled, and see if I can simulate 450 MPH about 10 feet off the ground behind a screaming 12 cylinder Rolls Royce engine ... Yep, that's what I'm gonna do ... Soon as I get me a Mustang ... Just you wait ... You might want to bring some snacks ... Maybe something to read ... And a cot ... A tent might come in handy .. Ooo, or an RV! .. That would be awesome! .. Don't forget the change-of-address card, maybe look at some retirement homes online ... You've been putting off getting the paperwork in for that pre-arranged funeral deal .. This might be a good time to get that done ... Yeah .. We might be here a while ... (Silence ... Eyes glaze over ... Thousand-yard stare) ... Yeah, just you wait! ... Get me a leather helmet and some goggles ... Better not let me find some errant Bf 109 foolin' around up there! ... Nope! ... He gonna have a BAD DAY, I can promise you that .. 6 Browning half-inchers be waitin for HIS ass! .. BDDDDDD!! ... ( Smiling and nodding, you grope for the doorknob behind you as you slowly back towards the door ... As you make your escape, echoing down the hall, "JUST YOU WAIT!! ... 450 MPH, BABY!!! ... AAH - HA HA HA-HAAA !!! ...). LOL
A simple google search would reveal that KBYL is Williamsburg KY. and KMSL is Muscle Shoals AL.... but in the future I will include both thanks for bringing it to my attentions sir.
Thanks for the comment , the Commander is a nice aircraft MU2 due to high wing loading rides better in turbulence. A point that is often not mentioned when comparing it to other turboprops
