This makes it so much easier to explain than how I've been doing it with my students! Adding this in to start the day one people before I get more into the technical side, thank you!
Do you not differentiate cross from straight backhand? In classical boxing straight back hand is released "last" in relation to turning the hip, cross means it is punched "a cross the body" releasing the hand before you would release straight backhand and last in the spectrum is overhand - where the punch is released (from the body) the moment you start to rotate the body. Basically the difference is how "straight" the punches line is. I was taught the difference in MT too, but ofc it is just differences between gyms in how much western boxing is included in teaching. So, there is ofc no "right way" - just difference in emphasis
Here is a difference: He uses term "cross" for both, but I was taught that only one is cross and one is straight backhand 😅 If you are interested: ru-vid.comMJiaY6CgRhs?si=GCqcLJU-oXmXf_0B
