Just think about this for a moment, $250 not for a game, not for 4 x AAA games but for a few ingame items in an old game that could arguably be said to be in maintenance mode, anyone putting that kind of money into STO is hopefully quite wealthy and not borrowing money to rent these aged pixels. Hey Spencer, when you mentioned the math/costs between Ultimate Tech Upgrades vs. Phoenix upgrades, are you talking about: 1. Phoenix tokens, no bonus 2. Phoenix tokens plus research/tech boosts 3. Phoenix tokens plus research/tech boosts plus Double Upgrade XP weekend (1) is obviously the most expensive of the three when upgrading, but if that is still cheaper than Ultimate Tech upgrades, then that is really good to know.
I haven't done all of the math there, but just a quick glance. Cryptic is basically valuing these Ultimate upgrades at $5/per. On PC $5 of phoenix packs would be ~60 Phoenix Packs. On average 60 Phoenix Packs would net around 107 upgrades if you downgrade the Ultra and Very rare tokens. It depends on what you're upgrading, and using boosts and waiting for an upgrade weekend will certainly help them out. But even if you're not doing either of those, I think you'll get most things in the game upgraded well before using 100 Phoenix upgrades on them.
I've got both these ships. The Constitution through an event campaign and the D7 by getting a T6 ship from the infinity R&D. Far less expensive than doing the mudd store

I personally bought the equally expensive 13th Ani bundle, because i wanted the Styx. If you spend part of your day in a game that has a universe that you like, or even love, money is no object. Providing you have it, obviously. If there was another way to get that particular ship, I would do that ofcource, but Cryptic is smart, they make popular ships hard to get, they make some items that would be handy to have account wide, like ground weapons, 'bound to character' and don't even start me on upgrading, or re-engineering, because that is a complete gamble fest. Yes, i would like it to be different, but it isn't. So if you want to play this game, and love to have a certain ship to fly in, you have to do whatever is needed to get it. It is as simple as that. Naturally, one could also quit the game. But there are no real alternatives.
You are absolutely correct, but this is not a real example of that in so much we are looking at 4 loot box ships and a ship from the loot bix consolation shop. Loot boxes items are always expensive unless you get seriously lucky in most games that feature them. This is a deal by comparison.
While this is a 'never buy' bundle for me personally, you hit the nail on the head with the bridge officer layout differences. I tell my Armada mates this all the time. Legendary is great, but sometimes the BOff layout isn't ideal. BOff layout, Specialization distribution, weapon slots and console slot distribution are key to making a ship work synergistically.
I know most don't value the elite Boff tokens but they do have their uses. If any of your toons do not have tactical SRO's, buy the green ones. Then use the token to make them purple. Saves lots of time gathering fleet credits. Plus, they will be fully trained in all the basics and with an extra ground trait.
When people instantly hate things like this, it shows their lack of knowledge of the game. I think the three ship bundle is great, useful for new and established captains.
Ouch. That's still a lot even at half off. Holy $#^%. I just remembered I've got an Infinity T6 ship I haven't opened. It may just be time to pick up the D7. But then I couldn't unlock it for the rest of my people. Hmm. If I get it, and that's a big if...I'll get the three ships and the 50 keys twice. I think 100 keys would be nice.
It's a great pack for those that are well off and relatively new to the game. The 23rd C pack ships are different enough in stats to be fun, and of course you get three "faction" ships for really only barbie purposes since the unlock. But for long term established players like myself perhaps not so attractive. I have the "best versions" of the Connie and D7 (MW FDC'S) and plenty of Jem ships, Vanguard Jems are excellent. When I used to appraise Mudds Bundles it was all about the ships, now it's all about the traits and consoles. They're far more valuable on account wide unlock than the ships themselves, usually.
While I agree that the 50 master keys are the least worst option of the fluff items, they're still poor value, compared to buying separately. During the regular keyring bundle 25% sale you'd get the same 50 keys for 700 zen cheaper. Not to mention they'd be sellable on the Exchange and you'd get a couple of free Ultimate Upgrades thrown in to boot. Already having the Leg D7 and also have the Temporal D7 on my main KDF and it'd be nice to have all three TOS ships account unlocked. But struggling to find anything else I want or of good value for the other two thirds of the bundle price.

I kinda go along withyou conclusion on this, in my case it's a buy for this, cause i don't own any of the promos or the lockbox one, i do own the legendaries of the ships, but still the promos are different enough for me from the legendaries to buy them.
I would have done B tier at max, because of the legendary versions. For me, a casual player, it's about can I fly that starship. In the case of all of the ships offered in this Mudd Pack, except the Jem, having purchased the legendary ships, I can already fly all of them. If they want me to purchase another Legendary Ship, or Ship bundle it needs to contain something I don't have, like the Enterprise J.
No, I tried it briefly but wasn't that impressed by it. I'd recommend the World-Razer nowadays for that spec combo. TLC is a capable platform for DEW or Torps, but far from being the best for either playstyle.
A pox upon you for making me reconsider this!!!😂 I'm still grinding and saving up for the 10th anni bundle, but the prospect of those 23c ships is enticing, after you lay it out like you did. Ive always liked the rp aspect of starting out an alt with an old ship because the faction is starving for captains and ships and they just start pulling out old mothballs to get as many "warp cores" as they can out there, and having those on an account unlock woild be a lot of fun!
This video was worth it just because I THINK I heard CasualSAB being mildly complementary towards beam-overload lol. Good point highlighting the difference in value with the 300 lobi & the 50 master keys. I'm a bit baffled by the (16) Elite BOFF upgrade tokens.
Another thing to consider, that @CasualSAB didn't mention, is that the three ships in the 23rd Century Pack can only be acquired through the Infinity Promotion Event which is not a common event and I don't know when or even if they're going to run another one. And even if they do, it's RNG. You have a chance to randomly pull a ship from the Promotional R&D and Duty Officer Event Packs that they sell only during said event. So the fact that you can just outright buy all three in one shot is pretty darned good. That's FOMO for you, which sucks, but since that's just how it is, players need to take advantage of opportunities to get otherwise inaccessible content if they want it. The other thing that gives this value is that, not only are these Event Exclusive Ships, but the Event Versions are Character Unlock Only since they come in a Ship Pack. Mudd's Bundle, however, gives these three ships to you as an Account Unlock.
This will be a pass for me personally, I do not see the value. walker has the obfuscation screen, bout the only good thing to discuss for that ship. the 3 ship pack maybe for bridge layouts(subjective to play style), i cant really speak about the jem ship as i do not have access to it. the only thing that seems decent out side of that is the 50 keys, cuz we all love our scratch tickets lol. The last few bundles have been underwhelming :(
Great breakdown, I do enjoy flying the Temp connie much more than the miracle worker counterpart. 5/3 on a standard cruiser is pretty unique. It opens up for more options like a single cannon build along with the wide arc pulse cannons from the lobi store. Running CSV even with single cannons is better than running beams with BO or FAW for me at least.

When I saw this bundle post it was/is a must buy for me. (yes I have all the Legendary Bundles still a must buy for me) Then I saw all the hate and was completely confounded by the lack of basic understanding that Legendary does not always equal better. Thank you for putting my frustration into words. Now I am viewing this thru TOS rose colored glasses to be sure. Big Big TOS fan but also a fan of performance. This is a rare case were the ships themselves and not the traits or consoles are the reason to get the ships. Agreed the Walker is way outdated. It will never happen but I would love an update pass to bring some of the older T6 ships up a little bit since the creep of speciliazation seating has made any new ship blow away most of the really old ones. I look at the valuation this way 4 ships plus 50 keys for 150 bucks (Sale) breaks down to 37.50 a ship for 3 Promo ships on account unlock (Probably a minnimum $100 in promo packs per ship for the 3 for 1 character prior to the bundle) Then the Jem'Hadar which is a decent ship which is a Lockbox ship that would also run atleast 100 bucks a character on ana ccount unlock. I may see this differently because I have 35 characters that I actually do play (Not farming alts) so account unlocks for different playstyles are gold for me because I will not go Promo pack or lockbox ship hunting for alts. On a side note, jopefully you get your card back before Starfield launches. Although Pixel Trek Online was fun yesterday lol. Thank you dor the succient and awesome vid.

Honestly, I think it's a very good deal for people who want the big 3 hero ships account unlock and don't have the other Legendary variants. Second tier options are certainly better than the Max Level Boost that come in most Legendary bundles.
Another use for elite bridge officer tokens, when you are non romulan you can buy the lowest tier sro and upgrade them saving on dil and fc. I am not saying pick them by any stretch of the imagination.
Its a bad bundle because outside the JH Battlecruiser all the ships are available in a legendary form and because legendary ships get all their versions traits and consoles up to that point, that massively reduces their value. Its placed in a uncomfortable situation were people that can afford these bundles likely did and Mudds is very much for people that arent willing to spend $200+ per ship (Whales) but are willing to spend almost that much on a C-Store bundle (Dolphins), the main drive of trait and console account unlock is already available on the Legendary versions leaving just the ship meaning they had to perform much better to justify the cost and they dont so its down to just the JH Battlecruiser. They also not giving anything new and I suspect this is why people dont like it, its not a Lower Decks bundle (because Lowers Decks ships sell) or a 32c bundle (because crossfield refit sells) but simply a bunch of their older ships that we can already get then their Legendary forms.
Sadly. Cryptic's monetization is insane. And for people wanting the ships on account wide unlock, these Mudds bundles are often the cheapest way to do so.

I'll likely pick this up only because I needed the Temporal Light Cruiser for a character, anyway. I'm looking to do an, "I'm a Constitution-class man, myself," character build themed around Jack Crusher. I've got the Legendary Miracle Worker Constitution, so one of the 2 TOS-skeletoned Constitutions would have been missing. I need the Temporal Light Cruiser as well so one Constitution could be in a TOS-era skin while the other's in a TMP-era skin. I ground out enough Dilithium to turn into Zen, plus my Lifetime Stipend that's more than paid for itself over the years, to treat myself to a free Mudd's Choice Pack this year. This likely is that freebie. That just leaves the Neo Constitution and perhaps the Kirk (I believe that's referenced as a Constitution-class in Discovery and may be backed up in some promotional material? I know it's not named that in-game to avoid confusion that its materials could be used on the other ones), and an Event Campaign can cover one of those.
If you have the means I’d go for the Kelvin Command Connie over the Kirk especially if you already have access to the TOS Connie which outperforms the Kirk in almost every aspect.
@@Shapes_Quality_Control I believe I have that Kelvin Constitution account-unlocked from the "Into Darkness and Beyond" Choice Pack, so it's not an issue of performance preferences. :) But it does bring up the point if this theoretical character needs *every* Constitution, or just the Prime Timeline ships identified as Constitutions, and do I need *each* variety in the game or just one of each as a representative of its time (e.g.: Do I "need" both the Legendary *and* Promo Discovery-era Constitutions as they're both available in STO, or just 1 as a representative for Discovery/Strange New Worlds?).
@@CardGameNut Well I’m a Connie nut so spread over the characters on my account I’ve been trying to collect all varieties of the Connie. Besides having access to the Legendary bundle my Disco character has the MW Donnie, TOS has the Temporal Connie, main is Kelvin themed so has the Kelvin Command Connie (saddled him up with the Kirk as well). Only ones I’m missing now are the Terran Donnie, and Connie III.
Putting the value into perspective for a sec, for this price you could get BG3 and Starfield, and if you go the MS Store way to get Starfield for free you could grab even more games all for this one bundle price, its time esp with a game this old they began to lower these prices.

The only thing i do kind of want out of this bundle is the keys the lobi and the tech upgrade tokens the rest i can do without. But can't i buy and rebuy the 3 pack for more keys lobi and upgrade tokens? i can then buy outfits and better ships in the lobi store?
That's just a huge waste of your money doing that. Wait for a proper key sale and use your zen directly on 10/20 key bundles if that's really what you want.
I'd love to see a Bundle DPS Tier list instead of a Value Tier List. This would be a never buy not an A. I don't think the majority of your audience uses beam overload...not if they are paying attention (unless they are trolling you).
That's a very elitist way of looking at things. @CasualSAB's audience doesn't only consist of sweaty tryhards who only want to do "Big PP Damage" and I'm glad he doesn't view us in that manner. Not everything has to be about Meta, especially STO. You can, very easily, go way Off-Meta in this game and still complete the content without breaking a sweat. And @CasualSAB did a cursory DPS Valuation of the ships for people like you. Also, just because you don't see value in this bundle doesn't mean @CasualSAB doesn't. And, quite clearly he does see value in the bundle. Quite a bit in fact. We're here for his opinion and that's what he gave us. You don't have to agree with it, but don't try to force your opinion on him. I, for one, appreciate the fact that @CasualSAB isn't as narrow-minded as you.
