Shredded hands, boss level slip n' slide bike handling while utterly gassed, a win for the ages. Laughing hard at the haters that suggest these women aren't tough as nails and stronger than the hell of the north. Epic win both for Deignan and women's cycling.

@@vincentkrause7097 on tarmac, it's no problem, but on cobbles you absolutely need gloves. You need the skin protection and padding for comfort. Trust me, even with gloves your hands take a beating in such a course. Her hands will be bruised, cramped and painful this week.

An amazing win - in those conditions, the most technically gifted riders will always win out over pace and strength. Deignan found herself on the front and though 'why not?'. In doing so, she separated herself from the peloton and its crashes and never panicked, just kept a steady rhythm. An 80km break to win Paris-Roubaix- stunning. I hope this convinces race organizers that women's cycling has all the drama and appeal of men's. Chapeau Lizzie.

Epic ride. Interesting that she was the 3rd rider for Trek today, so hit the first cobbles on the front to try to protect the leaders, and then just rode when she had a gap. Trek look like they are going to be a monster team next year, and props to them for upping the derisory win bonus from ASO to the same as that for the men.

This was an incredible race to watch. Chapeau to Deignan, Vos, and Longo Borghini, to all the women who finished, and to all the women who participated in this epic premier. The UCI and ASO need to recognize the pure grit of the women who contested this race and use the resulting enthusiasm to expand the women's broadcast calendar to more **complete** races. Great idea to make this a weekend - after such a great women's race I know I'm not the only one who can't wait for the men's race - like a kid on Christmas Eve! And of course, chapeau Lanterne Rouge and Benji for your insightful, spot-on analysis.

I am just confused. Why would anyone ride without gloves? And why would they do it in a race where there are likely to be falls? And in the wet? It's not about women, I see men doing it too. It's it an English thing?
@paulelephant9521
@paulelephant9521 2 года назад
@@AndrewBlucher I'm not going to claim to be an expert on this, but I've heard other comments saying the greater feel from having your hands directly on the bars helps with bike handling and that your hands get shredded even if you do wear gloves, they just keep the blood out of sight! I can't even imagine how tough a race like today was, chapeau to all the competitors making history yesterday, Lizzie Deignan will forever be the first female (and British!) winner of P-R.

1) more coverage equals more logistic preparation: camera bikes and operator, support cars, fuel for the bikes and cards, feed zone, marshall for specators, camera link vans, camera chaneels, etc. I think the race organizer did a terrific good job balancing all these economics aspect for the inaugural edition of the women's race. 2) pay comes from the sponsor, not UCI. the sponsors need to gauge how much advertisement they can get from sponsoring a bike teams, hence they will not gamble all their money to pay higher salary right away, perhaps a bonus for the winner/team will do geat. looking at the men's teams, a lot of sponsors fold, merge, change, switch; no? 2+) please anyone not to mention the same length of the course. Lizzie's power profile will most likely be about just more than half of MvdP's.
