Muhmmara is a Middle Eastern walnut and roasted red pepper dip that’s all sorts of savory, sweet, slightly smoky, and just enough spicy! It’s a snap to make and you can serve it with warm pita bread as part of mezze(appetizer), spread it on your sandwiches, or scoop it on top of grilled kebab, grilled chicken or fish.
This red dip, originally from the Syrian city of Aleppo.
Muhammara served as a mezze dish with other dips like Moutabal, Baba Ganoush, Tzatziki and Humus. I also like to add a salad like Taboule and Fattoush.
Muhammara (roasted red pepper and walnut dip) makes the perfect addition to the mezze table next to other favorites like moutabal, baba ganoush or hummus. Serve it with warm pita bread or pita chips. For a shortcut, feel free to use roasted red peppers from a jar if you don't have time to roast your own peppers.
Recipe #20
4 large Bell and 1 spicy red peppers (roasted, peeled, remove the core & seeds, blended)
1 cup Walnut, lightly toasted, finely chopped or blended)
1 cup bread crumbs plain
1 clove garlic
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp mild red pepper paste
1 Tsp Aleppo or Chili Peppers
1 Tbsp Paprika
1/4 Tsp cumin
1 Tbsp Pomegranate Molasses
2 Tbsp olive oil
Salt & peppers
Drizzle with olive oil. Garnish with parsley & pomegranate.
Serve with pita bread or pita chips
Serving temperature:Room
Serving size: 6-8 person

Thank you for detailing the method, but I have an addition or modification because the Muhammara does not like garlic, but it likes onions. Try it and taste the difference. Add a small onion, chopped very fine, and do not put garlic.

Thank you! Either way it’s delicious. Basic is same, some people preferred with or without garlic. Either way it is delicious. My way I like with garlic because in Beirut I have tried it and liked it.

I wonder why so many are using bread crumbs! I am from the Levantine area and we only use Bulgur. Recently there is interest in quinoa instead of bulgur for gluten sensitive people.
