My first face shave trying the muhle r41 which is known as the most aggressive safety razor out there. In this review, I will be using a Gillette platinum blade, one of my favorite double edge razor blades. I'm going to take it slow today to make sure I don't cut my face all up and become a bloody mess. I applied very light pressure with the safety razor. Allowing the razor to do all the work. Enjoy!

Wow! You survived! That is one aggressive razor. It mowed through your goatee like it was peach fuzz. I'm not sure if I'm more scared of it now after watching your videos that I was before. One day, I'll probably own one. Thanks for sharing take care.

I watch a lot of great razor guys- but your videos are very instructive . The most aggressive razor I have , is a reconditioned Gillette red tip. But my skin is sensitive and I’ve learned to go slow and enjoy the shave.

Thanks for the great review. I´ve ordered the R41 head to compliment my R89 Grande. I´m still at the experimentation/trial and error stage of trad. shaving, with different blades etc. I have a tough beard and quite sensitive skin, so I´m hoping to find a nice two pass shave - eventually. I never thought I´d be learning to shave after doing it for 40+ years with cartridges, so fingers crossed :) Subbed. Cheers!

Been thinking about replacing my QShave Merkur Futur which has served me 3 years and is getting gummed up on the twist setting cuz i go wide open aggressive with the grain but then go mild on pass 2 against it but I think ima get the r41 and give it a go. For the last 3 years of being setup with a brush, blades, razors, soaps i havent dropped a dime and I think i can splurge a bit.. if i dont like the 4r1 against the grain i can use a mild razor or buy the real futur and in all honesty compared to $20-30 every few months on cartridges ive saved enough to go crazy for once..

I like a one pass shave and have been using an R41 for about five years. But I tried a Karve Christopher Bradley open comb with a G plate and found it to be as efficient but smoother. In my opinion it leaves the R41 in the dust…and I love the R41!

Saw this video when it was published but I figured I’d get the razor then possibly comment … well I finally pulled the trigger and bought the R41 ( 3 pc ) and man oh man -- this razor is most definitely a monster ( 1 pass shave for me with about 2 weeks growth ) and not really for an inexperienced wet shaver! But if your new to wet shaving and want throw caution to the wind and also looking for a BLOODY good time haha go for it! Shave well my friends 😎🇺🇸

Wowa it just slices right through! I fancy the R89 but I am tempted to get this one too. I just got in to Safty Razors, so I'm a beginner, I got the Wilkinson Sword butterfly razor which they say is a mild razor, I'll stick with that for now until I get more confident.

I shave with straight razors more then 1/2 the time, and have for 45 years I shave daily. I own a Muhle R1 and I can say (though never thought it would be possible) that the R41 gives as close a shave and any straight I've ever used. In the number of safety razors I own and have used, it's in a class by itself.

After a long line of different razors, the R41 is now the one and only, for my daily shave. I only change the models by material every week, by the standard "Grande", the "R41 GS" stainless steel, today the "platinum" limited Berlin edition. By the way: the R41 standard is the mildest one, of these three. The R41 GS ist like a straight razor.

@@magnoliamike I do always 2 and a half passes. Withe my R41 or with one of my straight razors. I never get irritation, because there is enough sharpness.

When using an R41 treat it like a straight razor. By that I mean use the other hand to stretch the skin as if you were using a straight. Do that has kept me from nicking myself and the shaves are as close and any you could ever ask for.

I've done it the otherway around and bought the R41 head seperately to add to my Muhle R89 Black. I guess we both own Rockwells so are used to the plate swapping game. I don't find the Muhle Black handle to have a satisfying weight and wondered if your chrome knurled handle part is also plastic as according to the website they are the same weight? I have seen the R89 Twist has an all metal handle but the base plate is attached so can't be swapped. I find the R89 about as agressive as my Rockwell 3 plate but the R41 head is hard to compare to the Rockwell as they are so different. This morning I was in a hurry so used the Rockwell 2 plate for the first time and it was such a nice shave - swapping a bit of closeness for reduced irritation.

I definitely didn't want to have any skin irritation on the back of my neck. Nothing worse than sweating outside and your neck breaking out due to razor burn. Very uncomfortable for me

This razor is very aggressive, but I also think it delivers a smooth shave. You just have to handle it very lightly and have some growth. I would just never use mine as a daily shaver.

I'm convinced that you could skin a catfish with a Muhel R-41. I usually use a Feather blade when ever I shave with it. It's not a DE razor to get in a hurry with.

Do you know if the single steel model is all stainless steel including the head? I got mine today and it’s a best double edge razor I’ve ever owned. One pass. No blood. Not aggressive at all. Very efficient.

For myself with sensitivity around my neck area… I know people recommend to get a milder razor. Something tells me if my technique is right, that the Muhle R41 GS would be fine? I’ve been curious about that one.

I can shave with a R41 head on heavier handle than the stock one without issues, but I can never face lather without causing "razor burn" afterwards. My skin will not tolerate any brush if face lathered. I do not think any one who can face lather has a sensitive skin -- face lathering is very exfoliating and very aggravating to the skin. So if you have issue with R41, I would first re-check pressure and angle. I do not think it is a skin issue.

Like a shavette or straight razor, if you need to be so slow and careful with the Muhle R41, I would rather shave more quickly and safely with something milder.

I also have the r41 twist , my best blade for it is personna lab blue with a very steep angle and it shaves like nothing else , zero irritation 3 pass shave , imo your razor angle is way to shallow this can lead to the razor ripping at the hair , so steep angle with no pressure is the best way to shave with this razor

DE89 is just a perfect razor. I use this razor with Gillette Platinum Black all the time. Don't know why feather blades irritates my skin too much. I am just getting attracted towards this razor, the Muhle R41.

That's the most aggressive razor I have ever used. It's going to take some time to learn this one. As for the head shave, it's the best razor I've ever used. Takes off growth like no other.

Great Question. The Rockwell is very smooth with just enough aggression. R41 is no joke when it come to aggression, but it leaves me knowing it as well. It’s a toss up but personally, Rockwell R6 plate for me

Bad soap choice for such an agressive razor. Next time you’re going to want to use some thing like Stirling that has a lot more residual sickness and protection. On the shaven forums and Facebook groups I made a post about that. When using a safety razor that’s not super agressive like the 41 I can get away with using RazoRock soaps, but when I’m using my straight razor, I make sure to use a high-quality soap. Because the lather from the RR soaps are quite fluffy airy and light

It's funny, the 41 loaded with a Feather blade is my go to razor for longer facial hair. So a very aggressive 41 Muhle razor with one of the sharpest blades available gives me an extremely comfortable shave.....go figure!
