The moveset design is awesome, and I love how much they lean into the crossover stuff too. Joker sitting on the Iron Throne just as an image is fantastic.
I feel like the 2v2 aspect is heavily underdiscused. Many of the moves change wildly when you have an ally to share. Like Lebron's basketball, it gets more powerfull when an ally catches it and gets even stronger if they pass it back, giving you a potential kill move.
Rick can also be a great supporting character. He can keep his distance and his portals are great. If your teammate is in trouble he can send help in one way or another or he can get in and decimate the competition. He needs skill and you cannot just go in face first or you get f*cked. I learned it the hard way. P. S. The flaming portal perk is great, especially if your ally has range attacks. There are some niche uses too. Like making a field of lasers with his standing attack
Like in the full release?? Sorry to break it to you man but he got nerfed hard after they went out of beta, I mean if you wanted to argue him as an S tier back then that would be totally understandable. But since they fully released the game the majority of his attacks have gotten (Worse launch angles for combos, Side B curves upward in the air before dropping and can't jump while in it anymore, and worst of all pivoting forward air and down special moves at a snails pace)
Jake is def still very very strong regardless of the changes 😂 his swallow, skateboard, grnd uair, nair, all still beats mosts characters if used by a decent player. he’s a cool character tho and I still love Jake, great video too btw
@@nicw324 Bugs was the beta's cheesiest little goblin (superman also) I don't know if he was stronger than Jake at the end of it's lifecycle, but he was a menace at the start for sure
my problem with multiversus Gameplay No more grounded neutral air. The camera zooms in far too often. No leaderboards. No after-battle report aka "damage done" "ringouts" You can't see who accepted/declined a rematch. Modes No more Co-op VS AI No offline play No FFA mode with items Training You can no longer play as characters you don't own in local play and training You can't change your controller settings in the training room anymore More full loading screens when changing settings / start positions No advanced tutorial mode Economy / Progression No more cheaper characters (e.g. Garnet, Taz) for 1500 - every character is 3-6k No non-Gleamium skins No more battle pass xp after every match. We can only level up the battle pass from challenges now. No "toast back" if someone toasts you after you've left the post-match screen. You HAVE to use your character tickets if you got them (presumably also battle pass tickets), you can't choose to pay character currency or gleamium. Settings No option to remove team colors in battle No ability to swap neutral and side attacks Can't remove or lower buffering of inputs Can't change the game's language in the setting
I’m one of the few that prefers the Beta more in every way, also they pulled a Smash Ultimate by not letting you change characters between match sets and that’s the worst change for me personally. So much downgrades across the board.
I like this analysis. I'm hoping it does better this time around, but I think their picks for new characters need to be a lot more carefully selected if they want to accomplish something long-term. I think they need to appeal to the casual audience more than they have in the past, and a part of that I think they messed up on is the new characters they selected. For instance, particularly relevant to me, there's a gaping hole in the Cartoon Network reps for the 2000s, and there's high demand for a character who would easily fill that hole: Ben 10. This hole could also be filled reasonably with any Teen Titan imo, or maybe Daffy Duck as Duck Dodgers, but even those at this point would feel like they lean more into things already well-repesented. I just want 2000s Cartoon Network, and there are so many good options. Kids Next Door, Foster's Home, Grim and Mandy, just to name a few long-running and highly successful shows in their own right.
I'd love no 5 or no 4. Ed Edd or Eddy (all 3 as combo fighter like Powerpuff Girls or Tom n Jerry?). They can hit their 90s rep too. Catdog, Johnny bravo
How is joker….arguably the most famous comic villain, arguably one of the most famous villains in general at this point….not them focusing on a casual audience lmao. Just cause they didn’t add your favorite yet doesn’t mean they’re adding niche characters dude
Multiversus is one of those games where you just _know_ that it was a passion project that only got approved by Warner Bros. because they knew they could squeeze as much money out of it as possible (thus leading to corporate meddling and predatory monetization tactics). Buried under all that corporate slop, you can see that there is heart behind it from the poor development team trying their best with the hand they've been dealt. :(
@@SR.PlayAlot64 It takes weeks (and sometimes even months) just to unlock a single character. It is THAT bad. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
I just started playing it and honestly loving it, people are calling it greedy but it has no price of entry and you can unlock your favorite character the first day of play. This is how i expect a live service game to monetize it. Maybe im just jaded to stuff like suicide squad but people calling this the greediest game im questioning since its free to start and you can unlock characters you want relatively quickly. Another important thing about Superman is the characterization, in versus part of his power comes off with how he acts like hes never really trying, which is fitting hes a good guy have a fun brawl
I’d love a part 2 of this where you talk about the rest of the characters and even compare them to how Smash may handle that certain type of character. Here’s some stuff I’ll add: Velma is amazing characters fighting using speech bubbles, idea light bulbs and even a down air where she reaches for her glasses she lost and dropped. She’s kinda like the Phoenix Wright of Multiversus if you ask me. Another good thing about Reindog is he’s a Quadraped which are always fun to mess around with in a Platform Fighter. Also my goodness Banana Guard who people joke about as being “Bandana Waddle Dee at Home” is actually really fun and does another thing Smash hasn’t done, graduating an Assist Trophy to playable status. Zero, Krystal, Alucard and Knuckles were all given half a moveset but they never bothered to promote them in the same game which is a missed opportunity if you ask me. Banana Guard is based!
As one of the Iron Giant fans I’d say you’re pretty spot on. One thing I will say is the Anger forms value depends on the mode. If it’s 1v1 it’s worthless but in 2v2 the green bubbles can do a lot of damage giving a ton of stage control. Always love hearing your thoughts…does this mean we might see a Multiversus character concept? My one hope for this game is I really hope Ben 10 gets in before it eventually dies. I feel there’s a lot of potential and it’s the only time I started thinking about a potential fighters moveset.
playing the newly released game as a superman main today. Either I need to remap my controls or supermans vertical upwards and downwards command grabs have been removed and now can only throw horizontally, might want to update your video. I Understand why they changed it, because playing against a throw that could kill so early off the top wasn't very fun. Even I could see that, rip throwing people to the moon
Meanwhile Shaggy still has his obnoxious kick that doesn’t seem to get weaker even with spamming and Banana Guard has a Running Spear Charge which is just as spammable and stupidly strong as Shaggy Kick.
They need to bring back the movement catalog. Because it is pretty difficult to figure out some niche moves, like Rick's flying meeseks. I still don't know how to trigger it. And I don't want to see a twenty minute for just one character, just have the moves in a catalog, like in the beta
The list of moves with descriptions? If you go into the fighter list, and select your fighter there's an option in the bottom left to see the move list. Or you can press back on controller or 'T' on PC
Interesting point about Multiversus baring its soul with its own original character. I think it would be funny if they took some random Detective Comics throwaway from the 1930s and put their own spin on them. Kind of like Banana Guard, but _nobody_ knows who they are.
@@Grif_17 A friend of the old DC character Detective Steve Malone. He helped Steve out with a case in Detective Comics issue 19. As far as I'm aware, that's his only appearance.
I don't have an F-ing clue about the banana guard... Love him to death, tho ;p I wonder how often they plan to release new characters, I have so many that I'd love to see that its crazy haha
What I like about this game over Smash Bros: This game isn't setting itself any boundaries in smash bros, only 1 character has a projectile smash attack, no character can move during those smash attacks, characters must be in this size limit,... all short rules with few exceptions, which makes every character feel kinda the same, with only a handful being truly creative in concept In MV, most characters just do their own thing, not bound to any rule that other characters may follow Some characters float, some don't, Finn can sprint while charging his neutral attacks, some characters are designed more 2v2 focused than others,... this makes each character VERY different, the roster feels fresh and new with only 1/4th of what the smash roster has to give
This isn’t directed towards the maker of the video, but the fact that people still feel the need to compare these characters to Smash characters to this day just proves how successful Smash is and that it’s never going away whether they like it or not. I’ve seen so many comments from various videos about this game as well Nickelodeon all stars 1 and 2 attempting to take jabs at Smash, talking about how about how it’s move sets suck comparatively, that it’s not competitive enough, that they don’t like some of the design decisions Sakurai made, that the roster is too bloated, that all the sword characters play the same when they really don’t, that they hope smash gets replaced by these games, etc. But what I find funny is that all of this shitting on smash won’t affect smash’s image at all because it’s not marketed as a competitive game and it was never meant to be competitive in general. Smash Ultimate is still an amazing game despite its faults. So all of the people excited for Multiversus just because they want it to replace smash need to realize that they can coexist together.
yeah. been playing ultimate since the week it dropped and people really like to rag on the mechanics for the sake of their own skill issues. ultimate is the best smash game and people miss the older titles because they simply just refuse to adapt and it’s really pathetic (Melee players) how they talk so much shit about a game that has perfected its core mechanics precisely in the ways that they sorely needed
You know the console wars are mostly over, with the exception of the cringiest among us. ....but Nintendo fans. Aint been in a war since sega but people will die defending it, even when it's not being attacked. Smash straight up doesn't matter, like at all. You know why? Because Nintendo fans will play whatever they put out, and nobody else because those games are only on Nintendo. People get mad at games like this and pal wolrd because they "threaten" games that don't even exist in the same ecosystem. The critisim of these games literally come from people's childhood memories. Which btw, you're probably pissed at that fact but what does it have to do with you? A lot of people grew out of Nintendo, that's a fact. A lot of people grew out of gaming in general, just as much of a fact. That latter fact doesn't affect my enjoyment of gaming, yet mysteriously the former seems to bother a lot of people. About the same amount as emulators seem to bother Nintendo
@@slasher1563 You make a great point. I wasn’t trying to be a smash/nintendo fanboy with my original comment. My point was that Multiversus can and should exist in its own bubble and should not have to compete with smash. Smash isn’t a perfect game. What bothers me is that some (not all) people focus on what games like this do better than smash and constantly use it as a point of comparison and try to downplay what smash does well when that shouldn’t matter. Just play the game for what it is. I didn’t make that clear before, I apologize.
@user-zd9pq3fw6i When people ask me wtf im m i show them this i immediately explain it as "it's like smash bros" because it's basically a smash clone right? It's the same meal in a different flavor. But one of my favorite games is sleeping dogs. What is that? Its kind of like GTA but with more meele combat and you play as an undercover cop in china. That is a HUGE distance from what any given GTA gam is, but the comparison is natural because of what the game is giving you. The distance between Smash and multiversus is a step and a half. Idk if you get what im getting at as to why this comparison is inevitable but regardless it really doesn't matter because it IS inevitable. People will compare this game to smash for its entire life unless it somehow outlived it's source material. You seem like a chill ass dude or dudette, so don't let people's opinion over a video game get you lol
@@slasher1563W seething ragefulled internet debate yall made good points. And sleeping dogs is dope everyone needs to get over “gta clone” allegations the pivot of sleeping dogs as a under cover cop is gold and there probably couple other good ones that could be done well if ppl didn’t focus so much on the appearance of a game
shaggy is my favorite so far, simple to understand and fun character design. saving up for some other characters, love the animations and everything about this game so far. def worth the wait
some other moveset design stuff I noticed: - rick from what little I played while he was leaked always made me feel like giving literally 0 fucks when comboing things together, which if intentional is actually genius - jason (my new main) actively encourages you to shove yourself into combat at every second you can, pushing the opponent around until you finally hit the last hit - joker does a really good job at being true to the source material, because I hate every second I have to fight him :)))))
Legit concerns about some of the insanely disjointed moves some characters have. There were many many that don't have swords that hit four times their body width. (Joker is one of them)
Moveset is cool and fun they definitely messed up with only having like 4 characters available and making it like insane to unlock them. Especially when I already had most of them unlocked before they shut the shit down. Game play is fun game decisions suck
I absolutely Lebron James! He has no business being as fun as he is, losing your ball or going for a dunk and the only way of getting it back is hitting someone is such a fun concept, if Smash had that same archetype it would probably be Mario Hoops 3 on 3 Baller Mario in Smash and I’d love than more than Mario in a Doctor Suit honestly.
@@JaayViibes I’ll admit I feel like because it’s slow the “buffer” on each input sucks I do the same move 3 times in a row in 5 seconds cause my spastic ass spam’s inputs
Nah this is much better the fast paced gameplay in the beta was just spamming dodge and predicting, now you actually have to think before making a move which is more strategic.
The perk system being removed and de-emphasised is super patronising to me. The idea was that some people weren't using certain perks so they just removed them and made each perk type mandatory. They just made it less creative and unique. Also, ability cooldowns are a much smaller part of the game now, they are basically nonexistent and they made the icons way smaller anyway so it's harder to see.
@homesiejonesie7672 changed the entire play style of certain characters completely, combos are trash now, movement is sluggish and unrewarding, somehow the netcode got worse I thought it was gonna be better since they said they reworked it completely from scratch, the camera zoom was unnecessary, overall fluidity it had in beta is gone now its a sticky heavy floaty mess even the lightweights barely get off the ground when jumping, slower to cancel out of moves now, moves that got straight up butchered for no reason, they made the game simpler to play while also getting rid of a lot of the depth it had with the mix up options now its just same strings over and over trying to play for edge guard, I could prolly play another 30 minutes and find another yap block
@homesiejonesie7672 I played another like 2 hours since my last comment and the game is just not as good as it used to be, the space jam stage is awful everyone that plays grab characters just sits by the edge its so lame, the perks are so-so half of them are kinda garbage and the charge one that breaks thru shields is a absolute must on some characters, Jake is so boring now his combo game got obliterated no more dair Nair combos, lebron lost a couple of his hit boxes kinda no point in even playing him, Rick is a lil op imo, no one plays Steven right, and I fear the game might not bounce back, let's see if they up the speed a bit, if they don't I prolly won't keep playing
@@arckagefloaty is more the answer the character especially when if comes to recovering isnt as smooth as smashes or characters movement isnt as insane as brawl halla.
@@thefearturkey6944 Nah, there's no skill ceiling when game is hella slow, everyone has the same reaction time and there's no reward for actually playing the game. Making the game floaty as hell makes the game passive oriented and removes any incentive to do combos, and plus why would you want to watch or play a slow and floaty fighting game.... makes no sense.
