It’s one thing to look at someone create a song and learn nothing about the actual process. Mr. Gibbons you are teaching me valuable information, my words cant express how grateful I am. You are truly a blessing!!! Thank you.....
Jef, you make the best Maschine tutorial videos. You break everything down very well so it's easy to understand and remember. I really hope you keep making these videos because they're helping me immensely. Thanks!
Holy cow, Jeff! Blown away at the professional nature of these videos. I always come to your videos expecting to learn one thing, and end up learning a handful of other awesome things. Really appreciate these videos, my friend. Thanks!
"Music is all about tension and release" ... Very interesting! Thank you for this superb tutorial, I learned so much! I'll have to listen to it at least 4 more times there is just so much to learn :-) Again, thank you for making them maschine tutorials and music theory fun to learn! You are awesome!!!
Amazing. My Maschine Mikro arrives tomorrow and I had no idea how the chords worked in it. I was mainly getting it as drum pad but not any more. Thank you.
Very Helpful and informative. I just purchased a Maschine Mikro about 6 months ago and have been loving all the options. I was struggling with chord arrangements (playing / editing) and functionality of each button. Although I'm seriously considering upgrading to the MK3 in the future I'm loving the Maschine / NI overall. Thanks again!
I literally have watched a dozen videos. But this one made me subcribe. I have a Maschine Studio and Komplete 12 and a bunch of Dilla samples...but I struggled to pull it all together. This video was helpful. Thank you for your teaching.
These are great Jef. Thank you. More theory videos for Maschine would be greatly appreciated. Building full songs with intro, verse, chorus and bridge. I'm sure Maschine + users will also be keen! Cheers 😎
Wonderful stuff Jef. Learning a lot from you. My big takeaway is to make a v chord major by raising the 3rd along with inverting chords. Can't wait to start messing with this stuff. I'm very impressed with Maschine so far and watching your Maschine basics is what made me pull the trigger and buy one. I think it was definitely a good purchase for me since I'm a very basic pianist. And all the tips you give are perfect too. Very well explained and a big Thankyou.
Just saying hi, I really appreciate your videos and hope to get as much enjoyment out of Maschine as you :) once NI decide to finally send it to me ...
Professor Jeff back with another great vid, this bring back memories 25 30 years ago when I was just 5 or 6 years old learning this ahh flashbacks, people really need to learn chord progressions these days artists and producers have no idea what the basics are. Oh on a side note I am kind of bored of mashine 2 wish they do a major update soon back to using my push 2 and ableton 😩
Jef, will you make more theory videos soon? I'm zooming through the existing ones on your channel. I really like that these are specifically in the context of maschine.
Thank you for this video Jef. I noticed that when you're playing in chord mode on Maschine or you KK controller your software (Maschine I'm assuming) writes in the actual midi chord vs just one single midi note. How did you set that up? I can't for the life of me figure it out. Im Using Logic Pro x 10.5 Thank you
Hi Jeff, thanks for this great video! Just a quick question about extracting bass line from the chords. Should the bassline be played in the root note of the chord or the lowest note when chord are inverted?
Excellent question! There's two situations there, one is where you just have an inverted chord in the keys, and the bass plays the root note, when you have a bass player you can avoid the bass note in the bottom of the keys (and jazz bass players mostly prefer it when you leave the bass note for them!) The other situation is where you actually want an "inverted" chord sound, where the bass would NOT play the root note. When you see chords like C/E with the slash, that would mean the keys would play a C chord, and the bass would play an E (the 3rd of the C Chord). There are loads of times in all genres of music where this is definitely the case, especially jazz/ neo soul etc.
Hey Jeff !!! good video.. I'm always confused what to do with the left hand on the piano. Not a piano player by any means i'm more synth guy. But i want to learn to help with my productions. Might be a good idea for a video. I'm sure more people on here might have a similar issue.
I can tell you tricks....without going deep into music theory. You just have trust me or use your ears. If you simply go back and forth between C MAJOR and C min ( parallel MAJOR/min) C Maj......F min G7 into C Maj C Maj Ab maj G7 into C Maj G Maj Ab Maj BbMaj C Maj or lets say you're playing ii V I D min......G7 into C Maj play this as cadence D min Ab7 G7 into C MAJOR or C Maj....F Maj.....Bb Maj G Maj or C MAj F min Bb Maj G Maj Typical movement in millions of pop/rock songs A min......F Maj......G Maj.....E7/E Maj into A min Even that progression gets OLD.. Bb Maj A min F Maj E7 into A min There's only 7 notes or chords in a major scale to begin with. You'll sound like a 5 year old real quick playing only 6 out of 7 and it gets old hearing those same 7 chords over and over again. Play the diminished chords.. B dim.....D dim.....F dim......Ab/G# dim 7 2 4 b6 ( Counting from C ) 2 4 b6 7 ( counting from A) Those accidental notes derive from somewhere...but No one wants to learn music theory or different scales....
This is useful but it would be more useful if you could show the note degree too. Eg, I iib V 1; etc. As non Musician having the note degrees is more useful since Maschine can get into the right Maj/min key with any root note really easily.
I will say Jeff. For how professional your videos look, your thumbnails you do for the videos are a complete mess. They are wayyyyy to convoluted with colors and text that they kind of just look like a jumbled mess on your page when looking at them all.
Jef Gibbons well go out to your page where you’re looking at all your videos. There’s just so much colour and the text is coloured too. It makes the text on your thumbnails really hard to read and I can guarantee you’re losing people clicking on your vids cause of that. Just friendly advice :)
