She did this with quite a few songs. She’d sing a song somebody else sang, and it became Whitney’s. Nobody else could compare.

Singers are taught to visualize the notes, especially when they are doing runs. So what you see Whitney doing with her fingers or Mariah does with her hands, they are actually visualizing and playing the notes that they are singing. It's a technique taught to helps singers stay in tune and sing the right notes.

S Funnily enough, I also went and listened to the original George Benson version after this and found myself becoming more emotional during his. Both incredible versions of a beautiful song.
