Top of the Pops is a huge deal in the UK, these days I would argue, its like being on NPC Tiny Desk or Hot Ones, if you did Top of Pops you had made it into the zeitgeist. Its was a right of passage.

I agree it may seem she was too good to do these light hearted pop songs, but the fact that Whitney did what she did on this song is why you still to this day will go to any club around the world and you'll be almost quarenteed to hear this at one point during the evening. What's crazy is that she actually recorded some of her biggest hits in one take. I would LOVE a week 2! A week 3! There's so many mind-blowing performances, even when people were saying her voice was declining. I'd love to put together a list, maybe even 2!

My personal favorite IWDWS performance is the Arista 25th anniversary. The same special as the The Greatest Love of All performance you reacted to.

The shape of a vowel can determine the quality of the sound; for example, singing an 'e' vowel is very hard, because the placement of the sound sits further back in the throat, especially if a singer is belting a high note. Singers will therefore modify the 'e' to maybe an 'eh' sound which will bring the sound forward, making it easier to sing. It's very considered, but with practice, it will become natural.

Hi guys, The name of the producer who doscovered Whitney's amazing gift of doing a song in one take even better than what he had in mind is Narada Michael Walden, who is also a singer. He produced many of her #1 hits from her first 2 or 3 studio albums. I have followed Whitney from watching the first video " you give good love:. Several amazing vocal qualities struck me immediately- her unmatched tone, smooth vocal inflections, unparalled transitions between head , chest snd mixed voices, amazing power, and unequalled control are just some of those qualities. Whitney , as I have said many times is the greatest vocalist that not only ever lived, but that will ever lived full stop. Another producer/song writer, David Foster once said thay she worked like a horse, as according to him, she would show up in the studio hours after completing a live show, throw her jacket on a rack and proceed to do a several songs in one take, better than he ever imagined. They then would have her do several takes on the song(s), just to ascertain whatelse she can achieve. I wish you guys can do a reaction to a medley of " I love Porghy, "I am not going" and " I have nothing" at the American Music Awards in 1993 I believe. You can check on thr year, but I am sure of the medley of songs. In mybestimation, and in the opinion of many noted music critics/ singers /music enthusiasts, this performance sets her apart from all the competition, and put her in a class all of her own. It makes one think that mo other singer/ vocalist belong in that space that Whitney has created! I continue to enjoy your reactions

Guys please… we beg of you.. do her version from Arista’s 15th Anniversary in 1990. She had to sing it straight here, she she *annihilates* this with her band. Almost every Whitney song has a live version better than the album.

From what I read, this show always had artists lip sync their songs. Whitney insisted on live vocals. Their systems were set for hosts talking...not a big voiced singer...so it sounds slightly off. But its Whitney.. she is only competing with herself...
