Absolutely. Completely out of the norm for that show.

Hahaha, yes, I remember Hanna Fahl (a Swedish music journalist) completely obliterating them in an equally bizarre review of this number, where she managed to show that she knows nothing at all about real music. :D

For those who are unaware of the context for this performance, "Melodifestivalen" are the Swedish primaries for the Eurovision Song Contest which is a music competition in between all European countries. This song featured when voting was underway in the final for that year, with the countdown you can see in the beginning and the "Röstningen är avslutad" ("Voting has finished"). Melodifestivalen is a highly staged event, usually with dancers for all contributions and elaborate stage shows (e.g., lasers, visual art, fireworks (for harder songs, etc). All of the middle acts in some way reference other stuff that has previously featured on Melodifestivalen, so it's the ultimate display of navel-gazing in Swedish culture/media. "OMGWTF, nu är det mellanakt där ett band som heter Dirty Loops kör vidrig funkcover av "Undo"? Hahaha detta var verkligen vedervärdigt! Vad är det som SKER på min schlagerscen, så mycket slapbas, Sverige TÅL inte så här mycket slapbas! Jag tror på fullaste allvar att det här är det sämsta jag har hört i hela mitt liv? Mållös. MÅLLÖS. Dags för fejkade juryröster, och under tiden kan vi alla ta ett djupt andetag och försöka smälta det faktum att någon lyckades inte bara slakta utan styckmörda, gräva ned så den fick förmultna, gräva upp igen, och bygga en slapbas av resterna av "Undo". I love how Aron shared that one and a clip from her live coverage of Melodifestivalen, on his Instagram, when announcing the release of Phoenix, with the caption: "Älskar du vidrig, vedervärdig, bajsnödig slapbasfunk som innehåller massa ackord med siffror i? Då är Dirty Loops nya EP nått för dig! Är det nån mer än jag som är lite sugen på och höra @hfahl tankar kring nya EP:n?" 😂😂😂 They really do not care at all if someone doesn't like their stuff, and won't change for anyone. Gotta love their musical integrity.

And it was Danny who came up with the name Dirty Loops. I think this was the show that Henrik was so nervous about that he threw up before entering the stage.

Should point out this was the interlude in the show while people were voting (and spending money to do so, I might add). Dancers and lasers are Eurovision in a nutshell. It would be pretty hard to change my mind on this, but the extensive use of lasers and dancers is just to distract the audience and judges from how bad most of the songs are. Eurovision is supposed to be a song writing contest - just wanna point that out. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now.

​@@straazz Amen to that. I stopped watching Melodifestivalen back when they removed the symphony orchestra and started using singback. When they had a real orchestra playing the music, at least they had proper arrangements. These days it all just sucks. And DL's cover was so far above the quality of the contestants' songs it was comical. :D

Makes total sense. At first time through I thought it was something DL added then I realized it was production done by the show itself. :)

The stage, dancers and lighting were there for the song competition. Approx 2 million viewers in Sweden watched this. Melodifestivalen translates to melody festival and is done to pick the competing song for Sweden in Eurovision, the yearly European song contest. Eurovision gets approx 200 million viewers so it’s a big thing, 50-100 million more viewers than super bowl. And it’s all a celebration of extravaganza!

@@StrateleStudios As a swede I have definitely heard the original. I checked swedish wikipedia and got this information. It came 3d in Eurovision Song Contest, reached nr 1 on swedish charts, top 10 in some neighbouring countries and reached nr 40 on UK chart

One of the things I love about these guys is trying to forensically find the influence for certain passages, progressions, etc. For instance, in “Work Shit Out,” you can find an identical theme in “Finding And Believing” from Pat Metheny’s Secret Story from the 90s. Is it coincidence? Possibly. But as much work as these guys have put into their music, I’m willing to believe it is not.
