I think we have to give this song a credit for having Eddie Van Halen solo in Beat It. When Queen released Hot Space in Spring 1982 Jackson's Thriller was nearly finished and when Michael listened to it he decided to record some songs from Thriller one more time. And you are so right on Brian May's skills. He always plays for a song

In my view Queen didn't react to differing trends in music, if they had done that they would be copying others, rather they really did whatever they wanted to do irrespective of whether it would be popular. As is borne out by Hot Space.

Thank you for your reactions.. rumour has it that John Deacon wrote this as a dig at Brian May...May was being petulant at the time over how songs would sound...anyway they all argued from time to time, but stuck together like glue.....apparently John played all the instruments for this song...he built an amp from scratch for Brian..called the “Deaky Amp”..a custom amplifier with a circuit board and parts he found in a dumpster...as a teen he created a tape recorder to record songs straight from the radio...this may have been helped by the fact that he has a degree in electronics😁🤩

Love the Hot Space album , the final time I saw Queen live . I was seated in the fourth row in front of Brian . Freddie was standing at the front of the stage talking to the crowd , some guy walked up to the stage and threw a full cup of beer on Freddie , soaking him , Freddie replied " You could have at least thrown Champagne ! I guess that's why they call it Filth- adelphia ! There is a recording on my Facebook from that show , Freddie can be heard saying it . Freddie was the one that wanted this sound, John also likes funky stuff , Brian & Roger hated this sound that Freddie brought to the band , I have always loved Brians solos on all of these songs , especially" Put Out the Fire " , these songs are great performed LIVE , Milton Keynes concert is incredible! The concert where Freddie is doused is 7/24/82 @The Spectrum , between "Play the Game" & "Staying Power"

I agree, Brian May not getting enough credit, but their hidden weapon, John Deacon, received even less credit. He was an awesome bassist. Take a second on each song to pick his baselines out. He carries the song, A Kind of Magic, plus many other songs.

This is probably the best reaction I have seen to Back Chat! Loving these kind of reaction+ discussion type reactions and thank you for giving this little gem a chance! There are a lot more hidden gems than one would think , For example - Songs from this album - Put Out the Fire , Las Palabras De Amor , Action This Day (live at Milton Keynes) or Body Language (although that song is not everyone's favourite) Any song from the first two queen albums , the innuendo album and when you count in the solo stuff Freddie Mercury did , there is endless supply of great songs to react to!

Great work guys! I hope you do more of these amazing reactions! It is great to see musicians discussing music. Just remember that Hot Space actually inspired Michael Jackson to record Thriller. MJ said he was constantly listening to Hot Space while recording Thriller. Hot Space was a little ahead of its time. MJ also used Another One Bites The Dust as inspiration for Billy Jean. Back Chat is a song that could easily have fitted in on Thriller. Back Chat live at Milton Keynes 1982 is fantastic, it is better then the studio version. You guys should listen to Soul Brother from the Hot Space sessions, that is a nice track with of course great singing. There is a rumour that John Deacon wrote the song as a diss track against Brian May, and then Brian May had to play guitar on his own diss track...lol

Sorry but Queen was a British rock band formed in 1970. It wasn't around in the 60s. This song was written by John Deacon ( Queen's bass player) but neither Roger nor Brian liked the song or participated in the recording of it very much. John not only played the bass guitar but also played the lead guitar on this song. Brian did appear on the track very briefly during the guitar solo. John also used the computer LM-1 Drum machine for the drum effect although Roger did play the Simmons drum machine (which he hated) on a section of the song. John also played the synthesizer. Freddie did all the singing, both the lead and the backing vocals.

Michael Jackson was a huge Queen fan! He went to watch their concerts… He did take clues from Queen for sure! Actually, Freddie and Michael recorded a couple of songs and Freddie was supposed to be on the biggest album of Michael, but it fell through as they were too busy with their personal projects… Can you imagine if Freddie actually was on that album of Michael Jackson?

It is definitely my least favourite album that Queen released, I didn't like the synthesiser music of the early 80s. The rest of Queen didn't particularly like the way Freddie wanted to go musically.

2nd greatest rock band. Beatles are 1. But Queen I think is the only band that’s a natural extension of what the Beatles were doing.

Queen got roasted for this album when it came out, this was mostly the bass player. Brian plays a telecaster.

Queen has not been around for eight decades, Hey kiddos, Queen was not around in the late 60s.... Their first album was released in 1973 which included amazing hard rock songs like liar and keep yourself alive. I thought you guys were supposed to be some kind of authority on music isn't that how you're promoting yourself? You should at least do some research on your subject at hand before you start spewing out wrong information. And while I'm at it, Queen was not good at keeping up with the trends, you know they didn't do that give me a break they're too good for that and too talented they wrote how they wanted to and they played and released music what they wanted to because they were ever evolving and if one of them was just getting into dancing club music then they wrote that way. You really need to do some research if you're going to act like you're some kind of knowledgeable Queen fan and last but not least I cannot believe I found somebody that is reacting to of all songs backchat which is completely known as there were songs of all time. It's known and accepted as the worst Queen song by the fans and by Brian May so this shows your taste and intelligence in music.
