One of my favs from the Hot Space album ♥️ it just shows how they could work together & accomplish a great sound. I love the bass in this, the drum solo & of course Brian Mays eloquent ability to bring in his part. Freddie was one of a kind. It's good to see the HAP is back in awesomeness form. 🥰 The reaction was Stupendous!!! ♥️🥰♥️

It was always said that it's because Brian couldn't play those parts (probably true in the case of Who Needs You) but in most cases Brian would have been fine. If John and Brian had got on better, there could have been some great guitar duals between them (which happens subtly in Back Chat)...!

I’ve read that John wrote the song about Brian. Kind of tired of Brian’s “backchat”, “you stand so tall, you don’t bother me at all”. Also “just leave me alone”. In the same article it said that John did not want a guitar solo, but Brian kept pestering him to see what he could do with it. If this is true, Brian then played on his own diss song! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fantastic reaction again. Love the hotspce album. Take my hat off to Queen as it must havd been hard back in the day to change there style of music and they did it fantastic. Must have been alot of fun especially for Freddie singing differently. Then being so versatile is whats made them being in my eyes the best band. Also love Freddies moves and how he can bend his back as far back as what he does is amazing ( I struggle to tie my shoes lolll 😂🤦‍♀️) Thankyou for this reaction that and body language is couple of of my faves. I love the song, it's a pity it didn't work out there. The guitar, especially in the end, sounds screeching, like someone nagging at you. I have no doubt it was inspired in the fights they were having back then. But remember, Freddie also wrote Soul Brother for Brian around this time, so in spite of the fights, not everything was lost.

BACK CHAT: Written by John influenced by funk on the Hot Space album. It’s an English idiom referring to impertinent or impudent replies, especially to a superior. Hmmmmm - I’m American so now I know what that means! We usually call it “back talking”.

I love "Hot Space", one of the most underrated album or the most underrated one perhaps, but actually so so brilliant! this song is one of my favourite ones because it suits perfectly the essence of Freddie himself when he was angry: "you pissed me off and I'll tell you this directly" ("you stay so tall/you don't frighten me at all/don't talk back, don't talk back, don't talk back/ just leave me alone")

Apparantly this was written about Brian having the last word etc all the time...I wonder if Brian knew at the time!! Ha ha.. it's well known Brian and Roger didn't like the way the band were going with Disco and R & B disco funk..John loved Disco music, and Freddie attended the clubs where this was popular in America...I just don't think the UK were ready for this direction from Queen. I actually really like the HotSpace album. And tbh, Roger had already written a kind of pop Disco song before this.. I think it was called Fun it.... but don't quote me. Brian at this time was feeling very Jaded because his guitar work was not a big input...Freddie saw this and put a tape together for Brian of all of Brian's fantastic guitar work to cheer him up and wrote Soul brother fro Brian.

@HAP3SPEAKZ Your reference to the lyrics John Deacon wrote & Freddie sang about "the size of his gun" in BACK CHAT are actually quite ' well-documented ' in the book "Queen Unseen: My Life With The Greatest Rock Band Of the 20th Century " written by Peter ("Ratty") Hince, Queen's head (pardon the pun) of the crew & Freddie & John's person in charge of tuning their instruments (pardon another pun) for 18 or so years. He's the boy who hid under Freddie's piano & ran out to give or grab back Freddie's mic on a stick when he's going back to play on his piano each time. Somewhere in Peter's incredibly wonderful well-written, funny & so entertaining, honest bio of Queen & all of each band member's endearing as well as irritating habits. He does make an outright complementary observation about John getting in or out of a swimming pool in swim trunks with an obviously enviable "gun" clearly visible. ! He & Freddie had ALOT in common apparently 🤗

@HAP3SPEAKZ Oh, how could I have forgotten to mention in my other comment down below about Deaky what Peter Hince's book mentions about not only John's 🔫 but also about Freddie's 🔫 , which surely has long ago been evident to all.... Peter writes how the crew members constantly entertained themselves by giving the band members each nicknames pertinent to each particular tour.... and then they gave Freddie's 🔫 ITSELF a nickname that stayed with him forever... since Freddie often had to change costumes quickly hidden behind a black curtain right on stage to save time & get back out onstage when Brian's solo or Roger’s ended, the crew would often see Freddie bare-assed 🤭... one time his wardrobe guy was drunk & put Freddie's tights on for some costume backwards & he had to have them turned around, making his stage entrance delayed, "which he never did being the consummate professional that he was" writes Hince. So it evolved that another one of Freddie's physical attributes was enviously referred to by the crew members as the "BIG BENDER" as anyone who watches Freddie's YTUBE videos needs no further verbal confirmation 😏 of ... The book had me laughing throughout as he tells stories of every imaginable topic.

I believe it was Brian and Roger who said disco and rock don't mix. They both hated this tune. For one thing, John wrote it as a dis to Brian who seemingly made things difficult for our funky dancing Deacy. Freddie stood up to Brian about it and worked out a compromise with him something to do with a guitar solo. John didn't want a guitar solo in his song, and I believe he had done most if not all the music himself. You notice Brian didn't use the Red Special in the video. And Roger didn't look none too happy. John and Freddie were having a ball. Brian did however use it on this tune on the Hot Space Tour as you can see in the Queen on Fire Live at the Bowl. I love all four of these guys to bits. Four brothers from different mothers. All brilliant and talented human beings. John said in an interview that it was like a marriage, really. You have to work things out. He was right.

I don't care what anyone else says - official or otherwise - (except John Deacon himself), this song is about Brian! It's so well fogged up in the lore, but the evidence is there that John doesn't like Brian. On a personal level I'm talking about. I'm damn sure John respects and appreciates Brian's work, but definitely doesn't like his manner. In spite of this, Brian gets a killer solo in this song. Seriously, check out John's songs, and look at how much Brian gets to do... Not a whole lot overall. There are reasons John stays away, buy hey, that's John's prerogative, as is his opinion of Brian or anyone else. Thankfully the personal issues (temporary and/or permanent) didn't stop Queen being f***ing awesome in every conceivable way.

Brian and Roger didn't like this just because it was something that fit into clubs and was dancing music, not enough of a "rock" sound. Cool. Though they were close like brothers, the band actually argued a lot through their time together in general, like four artists painting at one canvas, never sure of who's ideas would be included, or who sang lead, etc. While he was concentrating hard, you can tell on Brian's face he was not having fun.
