Thanks guys! I'm always pleased to see Bridear getting a little airtime. This was the first song that I had heard from them and it properly hooked me to the point I dived into seeing them live the next week.

"light in the dark" for sure. It's their most viewed song on youtube. Funny thing though, it's not on their official channel, but another one. (I never understood why but that's how youtube are sometimes). "Light in the dark" is currently my favorite song of all time... 😻

This is the song that started me down the Japanese metal rabbit hole. I haven’t come back yet.

Stylistically, this song is unique within Bridear's discography (although Side of a Bullet is also proggy) and even within songs by Japanese bands, as far as I know. A prog-metal masterpiece for me. I like their other stuff a lot too, but it is very different. Ignite is a good option if you want a more representative song. Pronunciation: the emphasis is on the first syllable and "Bri-" rhymes with "fry". Why "revisited"? Aldous Huxley wrote an essay called "Brave New World Revisited" several decades after his famous novel.

Haru is just so smooth on her bass, definitely under rated.

Bridear, an undescovered gem of Japanese metal.

Bridear's catalog goes deep! Even though some people call them power metal, they cover all the bases from thrash, hardcore, death metal to prog-rock. Check out songs like Thread of the light, Light in the dark, Bloody Bride, Ghoul, Imitation, Marginal Lie, Wing Of Hope, Misery Machine, Ignite and My Heart Sigh.

Hey guys, missed this when you first did it, but they are one of the important bands in the Japanese metal scene, with a long history. I consider Brave New World Revisited their masterpiece to date, so it was a good place to start. More background: One of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands, founded in 2011. They go hard and heavy, and epitomize the technical side of Japanese rock bands. Here is the original lineup: Kimi-Vocals Haru-Bass, growls Misa-Guitars, growls Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V) Kai-Drums In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums (after a brief trial with another drummer). Second Lineup: Kimi-vocals Haru-bass, growls/metal vocals Misaki-Guitar, audience left Ayumi-Guitar, audience right Natsumi-Drums I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup. They have experimented with a variety of styles, dabbling in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots. In “Brave New World Revisited” (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6-OXcyMkYI.html) they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi. With work like this, they should re-emerge into the top tier of Japanese bands. In early 2022, Misaki, who suffers from severe stage fright, left the band for health reasons, and they scrambled to find a new co-lead guitarist. They have been joined by Moe, and their first release with her on board showcases some great dual shredding between her and Ayumi. Hopefully this lineup will last! From the original lineup: “Light in the Dark” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CN3KDIBdosQ.html “Ignite” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LQIDqudG_DQ.html Second Lineup: “Starlight” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4lq90GqRxiE.html “Bloody Bride” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CN3KDIBdosQ.html “Brave New World Revisited” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6-OXcyMkYI.html Third Lineup: “Road” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vcsUpWW0UZk.html “Eyes of Doubt” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_oNn9Wg-vNQ.html (This was written by new member Moe and is included as a bonus track in the Japanese version of their new album).

They are presently recording their new album in Sweden at studio Fredman with Fredrik Nordström ! (just check who he has previously produced!). About Haru's growl: he saw her doing it live, it's totally legit!

Great reaction guys. I believe the theme of this video / track is based on the dystopian novels Brave New World and its follow up Brave New World Revisted. by Aldous Huxley. Love Bridear I think the first japanese band to tour overseas during / after the COVID situation and they came to Scotland (twice). A lot of overseas bands just do London. I saw them October 2021 at Glasgow, with the lineup you see here. And again at Glasgow September 2022, and they were great both times. One of the guitarist had left by the time of the second tour - Misaki with the bluish guitar had left and was replaced with MOE. MOE and the other guitarist Ayumi (tartan shirt) are great together. My two favourite memebers (altho love them all) are Natsumi the drummer and Ayumi the guitarist. Natsumi was already a very good drummer at the time of the first concert I mentioned above but has kept getting even better in the last two years. Yes it is very incongruous that such deep growls come from the bassist Huru, such a tiny woman. I am only 5' 7" but at the meet and greet I almost towered over them, they are all small but Haru is tiny, doll like.

The only thing with Bridear is there are several lineup generations as unfortunately they have not managed to find a stable lineup. I think only the vocalist and bassist have been reasonably constant.

Hello, thanks for checking out Bridear (the name is a portmanteau of Bride and Dear, so it's pronounced with a long "i"). I think they deserve to be way better known than they are, and I'll tell that to anyone who stands still for long enough. I second the suggestions to follow this up with Ignite. The song's from 2017, this is a live video from the current lineup, opening Loud Park in Tokyo earlier this year: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C0-_u9SYspE.html Another option - also official, but not as well produced - is Bloody Bride with the same lineup as Brave New World Revisited: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IfcQ3xKucPI.html Or if you'd like to focus on Natsumi, here's a five minute live drum solo, again from their official channel, entitled "An Homage to Cozy Powell": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zhBLNIhJwAA.html I'm fairly sure Brave New World Revisited is not a remake, but a new composition, named for the book Huxley wrote a few decades after his original novel. In it he argued that the novel's dystopian future was coming true faster than he'd anticipated. Which explains the song's optimistic, upbeat lyrics. Lead vocalist Kimi and bassist/growl vocalist Haru are the only two members who've been with the band since 2011. The current lineup is tremendous, and each new member seems to bring their own influences into their sound. Their most recent album, "Aegis of Athena", sets off in a progressive direction which I hope continues.

Correct it is a Huxley reference. The song is about the increased authoritarianism that came with covid......obviously they had to speak vaguely because youtube would of struck their channel for being critical.
@iaingeo
@iaingeo Год назад
@@hitokiriizo This is nonsense. A Japanese band isn't interested in spreading American far right conspiracy theories, and they're not tailoring their lyrics to meet some imagined youtube guidelines. And Brave New World isn't about authoritarianism - that's 1984. It does concern peoples' wilful self-delusion in order to avoid facing their own reality, so I suppose you're on topic doing that.
@UberNoodle
@UberNoodle Год назад
@@hitokiriizoNo I severely doubt this. It doesn't fit with any of their other lyrical content. You're projecting your own ideas onto it. And also, there is plenty of relevant, insightful and highly nuanced content in Aldous Huxley's novel to draw creative inspiration from without resorting to populist and misinformed conspiracy theories about a very real and destructive global pandemic.

Try this live version of Ignite. It’s an older song performed by the current version of the band. I really hope this version sticks because they have really good chemistry. As was commented earlier, only the singer (Kimi) and bassist (Haru) remain from the original line up. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C0-_u9SYspE.html&pp=ygUTYnJpZGVhciBpZ25pdGUgbGl2ZQ%3D%3D

The band used to be melodic power metal in the more traditional sense, which you can hear on their debut EP, for example. But they have since then evolved their sound through a few phases. They went in a bit of a melodic metalcore direction for a while, and now they've settled on a kind of hooky, pop-infused metal style that pulls from all of their eras. This is a particularly heavy song from their current material.
