The Muslim month of fasting, Ramadan, has ended, and with that, Eid Al Fitr begins! Come with me to the oldest mosque not only in Egypt, but in all of Africa, not witness the celebrations that happen on this festive holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan and the breaking of the fast.
Want to donate to the channel? You can buy me a shawarma! 😂 But really, I just found out this website "buy me a coffee" exists and created an account, because, well, why not? I really just appreciate your support by watching my videos and I'm not asking you to donate, but, if you feel like it, now there's a place you can. Donations will probably just go to me making more street food videos. Here's the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/gventures
Welcome to the channel! My name's Gisselle, I'm a budget traveler and have been to 6 out of the 7 continents, visiting 20+ countries, living for some time in Sydney, Australia as well as in Saigon, Vietnam. I am currently based in Cairo, Egypt and exploring all this beautiful country has to offer, while visiting nearby countries as well. I am a lover of language and a culturally curious lady just making my way through life one day at a time. I live to learn, I love to travel and explore, try new things and meet interesting people anywhere and everywhere in the world. Come along with me as I solo travel the globe and discover fascinating new places, try delicious local food, meet lovely people, and share a moment in time on this beautiful planet, our Earth.

Hi Giselle ! I am travelling to Egypt at the end of the month and just started watching your channel. I just want to thank you for all your hard work that goes into these videos. Awesome, thank you Kelsey! And welcome to the channel 🥰I appreciate you tuning in (and recognizing my effort! 😅). I really love making these videos and sharing my love of Egypt with people, but it's really people such as yourself that make the biggest impact by watching. The more people like yourself that do, the more people the video reaches that are able to see all the incredibly kind people, amazing history, culture, food Egypt has to offer 😍

Thank you for the video from an ex-Cairo visitor and Happy Eid to those who celebrate. You visited is Amr ibn Al-A'as mosque named after General Amr ibn al-As. It is walking distance north from the area called Coptic Cairo. It is considered, as you mentioned, the oldest mosque on the African continent and one of the oldest in the world. Over time, it has been reconstructed several times and the original mosque was much smaller, built in the center of Misr Al Fustat, Islamic capital of Egypt. The mosque functioned as a meeting place for the Muslim people and 'Amr's forces during the early years after the conquest, when they were still a minority in Egypt. It has great historic value and it is one of the most beutiful (and well maintained) mosques I have seen in Cairo. As you offered a video of the interior, it would be great to show it on your channel. Ibn Tulun Mosque would be, also, interesting to show since it is a one of the first mosques with a minaret and has very interesting layout of wall windows. It is not a very visited place. Cairo is a city “of thousand minarets” and there are, also, other mosques interesting to visit from later periods. Tourists usually focus on just several.
@Gventures
@Gventures 2 месяца назад
Yes, there are many, many mosques in Cairo, I say the "City of a thousand minarets" in a lot of videos, if I find it relevant to mention, because there really are so many, and one can hear them going off all over the city even while visiting, or if you live here like me. I have been asked (and have been intending) to go to many mosques and make videos about them, it's been on my "to-do list" for about a year now 🤣 My list of videos is very, very long and is always growing, but eventually I will get around to the mosques (mosques on the money, old ones, big ones, where people's heads are, etc.) Thanks for letting me know you'd be interested, and thanks for watching! 😊🙏

Your pictures are great, and your camera deals with the changing and challenging lighting conditions very well. Thank you as always for producing such an uplifting and inspirational video! I really must pay another visit to my favourite Egypt very very soon - I miss my friends there very much. 😀William

🤣 Haha yes, the kids are so cute (especially the little ones!), I love that they want to jump in front of the camera and I'm very happy to interact with them. I think it's so funny when they speak to me because they just talk to me as if I understand Arabic, sometimes they get frustrated when I don't understand, but it's always a fun and cute exchange 😄❤ Though I must admit in large groups they can start to get really rowdy and out of hand, and then I have the urge to run away 🤣 I love holidays in Egypt, they're always so much fun and full of life. Thank you! Yeah I love exploring and having the most authentic experience I can. I love local life, and in all my wanders and explorations around the country, I have almost never had any dangerous or unsafe situations. The idea that Egypt is unsafe to visit is quite ridiculous to me, but yes it seems that many people feel it is unsafe to visit. Unsafe for a solo woman, unsafe without an armed escort (?!), unsafe due to a war across the border, there are a whole slew of reasons people come up with, and it always baffles me. They have obviously just never been here before
@quttuz

@Gventures In my perception, fear is the opposite of pleasure. When we put fear behind us, we enjoy life. Fear and suspicion often prevent us from experiencing new experiences. Most of your videos are in local areas outside the scope of police protection, and yet everything was fine with you except for that particular incident With your phone that was returned back to you.. And here I tell you that accidents can happen anywhere.. I have lived in Egypt for 40 years and have not been exposed to any kind of accident and have never been robbed before.. 5 years ago I traveled to visit France and my phone was stolen at the metro station in the centre of Paris.. keep posting your beautiful videos
@Gventures
@Gventures 2 месяца назад
@@quttuz Exactly. Bad things can happen anywhere. Of course, we should all remain aware of our surroundings and exercise a certain level of caution using our common sense, but many times (as you said) people limit and prevent themselves from having amazing experiences due to fear and simply the POSSIBILITY of something happening (which can happen anywhere in the world). Fear is the mind killer. I'm a big fan of quotes, and here are a few of my favorites on the topic of fear: "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all." - Helen Keller "If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal." - Paulo Coelho “Never forget that fear and desire can lead you into life’s biggest trap if you’re not aware of them controlling your thinking. To spend your life living in fear, never exploring your dreams, is cruel.” - Robert T. Kiyosaki You can make things safer, you can be more careful or clever, and there's nothing wrong with that, but at the end of the day you have to recognize, if you're trying to eliminate all risks from your life, what you're actually doing is eliminating all possibility from your life. You're trying to collapse the universe of outcomes, such that what you've lost is freedom. You've lost the ability to act, because you're afraid. - Edward Snowden The sooner you step away from your comfort zone; the sooner you'll realize that it really wasn't all that comfortable. - Eddie Harris Jr.

It's been a fun time to be in Egypt, hasn't it? I was a little worried things would be too subdued for a holiday here but it was the opposite. Now, solve the big mystery for me Giselle. When do Egyptians sleep? This must be the most sleep deprived country on the planet.

🤣 Seriously! I slept so little my first few months in Egypt, I thought maybe it was jet lag at first or something, but it continued on for some time, still a mystery to me what that was, maybe some crazy magical energy in the air 🤣 and all the Egyptians I know seem to sleep very little as well, I dunno how they do it. They work hard, and then party late 😅 You're so right

Haha, yeah I know. I'm actually going to be touching on the subject of Copts soon, my friend is Coptic and is going to help with that a little. I have made a video about St. Simon "The Tanner" Monastery (aka Cave Church) already though, as well as several about Mansheyit Naser (and in particular "Garbage City") as I made my way through the neighborhood to visit the church. I've been a few times. Yes, please film inside one day. The people are supposed to be together in the prayer, with no spaces between men side and women side because it's said the shaytan can enter. There shouldn't be any singing unless it's religious.

There is singing on Eid, my bf is from Cairo and told me they do that, he grew up with it. But of course it is religious. I will film inside some time, when there are no celebrations or prayers so I can see the entire mosque, or as much of it as I am allowed to. Thanks for watching 😊

Hello!! Giselle .. Eid is pronounced as eed.. not I-eed to make it simple or in Arabic عيد
@Gventures
@Gventures 2 месяца назад
Actually, I know how it sounds, because I live in Egypt, my bf is Egyptian, and I've heard this word being said often by countless people (I am also learning Arabic). But there's an ع in there, and what does ع sound like? Iyn, or eye-n, however you want to crazily spell it in Franco Arabic. Obviously, I am not a native speaker, so my pronunciation is not always great, but there is definitely an ع and it should be audible. It's 3ed عيد, not just flat eed يد Here's also a video if you want to hear the pronunciation, the guy says in the video, in English it is "EED" but in Arabic "ah-eed," though the speaker is clearly not a native Arabic speaker so I think he struggles with the ع ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0vdoVxzNYbw.html A better example would be this guy who is a native speaker ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s3dOp3uFDrg.html You can also hear people saying it in this video, though I know it's kind of hard to hear them clearly because it is very loud

@@Gventures yes I see what you’re saying about the ayn or ع but It’s not disconnected from the ي or د . Arabic is a beautiful language and once you get the flow you fall in love with it.. no harm in not pronouncing the ع if you are new to it 😊. It just threw me off when I heard it
@Gventures
@Gventures 2 месяца назад
@@abukhalilmuhammadosman9979 Well yeah...the ع should be pronounced though, always. I just go hard on it because as a non-native speaker it's hard to soften it without losing it completely. In fact, upon re-watching the beginning of the video after you made this comment, I don't even think I made the ع sound at all when I introduced Eid, I only pronounced the ع when I said Happy Eid quickly near the shop 😆Anyways, yeah, it is what it is 😅All I can do is try to improve my pronunciation and do my best. Inshallah I'll get better at it one day 😄

@@abukhalilmuhammadosman9979 Thank you so much 😅It was constructive criticism, and I'm glad you brought it to my attention.
