I agree getting the man to talk about his son, and all the good things that his son did is very cathartic. Yet I couldn’t help but cringe when the good doctor would break in when the grieving father would start another thought ,& just ask, was he funny? It would’ve been a lot more cathartic if the doctor would’ve listened a little bit more, had not been so impatient and allowed the man to get out what he was trying to say. Very good channel . I think I’ll subscribe anyway - this is a smart doctor.

My second husband and my 9 year old daughter and 14 year old son were all in a car accident. My daughter died, my husband died, but my son lived. He was the reason I was able to hold it together to still be mom to my son. Because my son needed me. You never get over it, it doesn’t get better, it just get different. This was 1999 and it is still a crushing pain. My heart shatters for this father.

I can’t even imagine going through that! I’m so glad you realized what you needed to do! For both of you! I watch a hospice nurse online who has a great description of grief. She draws a box with a button and a ball. She explains the ball bouncing around in the box and it’s a big ball it hits the button. Over time the ball gets smaller, still bouncing, hits the button but not as often. Basically the pain doesn’t go away but every once in awhile it lands on the button. It was such a great way to explain it because it doesn’t go away, it’s just less often! It’s what I thought about from your comment!

As a parent who lost a son March 9, 2023, i didn't want to click on this video. I was so glad I did. Dr. John handled this with the utmost grace and empathy. People mostly avoid talking about my son. They don't want to trigger my sadness. Please talk about them! Please bring them up in conversation. Please tell me the silly thing you noticed about him. Please say his name. Please listen to me. These are the things that help get the parent through this. Life will never be the same. You never get over it. The pain is always there. Good and bad days will come and go. It doesn't matter who that child was to you just honor that child and you will be honoring the grieving parent.

Poor man. 😢 This reminds me of an accident in my country: A firefighter was home in the countryside when he heard that a bus and a timber truck has collided. He instantly knew it was the school bus which his daughter was on. He immediately drove to the place and was there before the firefighters, the ambulances and the police. When he came there he saw that timber had gone through the windshield and in to the bus with a brutal force. He jumped on to the bus. And to his horror he immediately saw that his daughter was dead. She hade been hit by a timber log and had massive injuries. But near her he saw a child that was alive but badly hurt. So he went in to firefighter mode. He knew he could not be able to revive his daughter but he could help someone else’s child. He did everything for that child to keep her alive until the ambulances came. That girl survived because of him. She would have died if he had not come there before the firefighters and the ambulances. A true hero. ❤️

My neighbor lost her only child, a son, he was 19. Car accident. He would be 50 this year. Her and her husband stay busy and have lots of nieces and nephews. I thought they would die themselves. I had just had a baby boy. I felt so guilty. I had two boys at that time. I really don’t know how they survived it. They are in their late 70s. She talks about him all the time. Disagrees. Saying that you saying to people that their pain don't matter. Different problems affect people differently. Also i see here comments on suicide. Not everyone fortunate having a loving father. You say losing a child. Atleast you didn't had that bad because you had a chance to have a child now imagine having nothing since being a toddler only pain no positivity. I have been suicidal and wished I was dead. No one cares and only cares inflicting more damage. They care only then it's too late. But don't care on the way while causing the damage that made people suicidal in the first place. So all people complaining why people suicide. Got themselves to blame for being allergic to kindness and showing love. Ignoring neglecting what a child actually needs pretending he got what he needs just because of your stupid stereotypes. Not paying attention. I've been molested manipulated bullied since being a toddler and what people do then they see suffering or terrified of people? That's right they give even more pain neglect and so on and that is going on entire growth period. Good luck trusting anyone after that. I don't mind being aborted. It's parents fault for having kids before you ready. So selfish knowing you not in position to give them safety and love so don't have them. If I ever get out of this pit it I'd never have kids unless I'm sure I give them love and can protect them

I understand as I lost my only child two years ago. He was a little older but barely into adulthood. I remember well those early days when I was completely bereft and he occupied every waking thought. I heard a very helpful analogy by a well known grief counsellor who compared the grief to a rubber ball squeezed into a small jar. There is no room for anything else, but every time you do something positive or joyful even if you have to go out of your way to do it, the jar gets a little bit bigger each time. The tragedy doesn’t lessen, but it becomes easier to carry over time and occupies a smaller part of your life. God bless this family.

I didn’t have kids for several reasons. One of them was my depression/suicidal ideation. Couldn’t bear for my child to live with depression nor bear it if they decided to take their own life. We just know what we can/can’t handle. Not necessarily selfish.

My sister lost her son unexpectedly and although nothing helps very much, she found it helpful to meet with and talk to other parents who had lost children. Seeing other people that had somehow survived and who were eventually able to laugh and live again, gave her the smallest of bit of hope that one day down the road she might be able to find find a way through this paralyzing grief.

My husband and I have not been able to have kids. All 3 of our pregnancies ended in miscarriages. It’s a different kind of grief and people never know what to say. We always get the thoughtless comments “do you have kids?” “You’re not a mom, so you wouldn’t understand this” etc. No…I’m a mom to 3 kids in Heaven. Nothing ever makes it ok. You just live with it. I couldn’t imagine losing my kid tragically to the negligence of someone else. It’s a reminder that this place is not our home. It was never meant to be a place of peace and comfort. Our home is with the Lord and when he calls us home in His own time, we’ll have that peace.

The always thinking of a table for 4, or always auto responding '2 kids', etc... It truly never ends. We lots our daughter when she was just 1 week old, she'd be turning 16 this Friday, and I still sometimes pull down 4 plates even though I never even set 4 plates to begin with. Hug your babies, some of us can no longer do that.

My Jordan had tourettes and fought thru the teasing...he self medicated...then one day he started having psychotic breaks...i was the only one who stood by him. His last words, " are u proud of me mom?" I said "of course!" The autopsy said heart arythmia related to long term drug abuse. He was 27 and sober😭 i know he was depressed and i know he was really religious but i miss him so much

Lost my big sister to cancer, 3 years later lost my big brother in an accident. My father was never present, and the big brother i had left, manipulated my mum into that he Will help us, stole all the money and the house we had. We were homeless and without a dime. And 6 months later our best friends died in an accident, my dog got cancer and died, 6 month later my aunt died. Its been 20 years, and everyday is still a struggle. My mum went from mum to beeing my child to care for, and she still cant manage anything. My life was ruined and everyday I think of my beautiful silblings and how life could have been. I wish i would have died instead, i would have given my life for both of them. And everyday beeing a sad day filled with darkness, is aweful. I loved life because of my family, and nothing cab replace that. I wish there is a heaven so we meet again.

Our son passed in 2013 and you are in the "club" no one wants to be in but connects us forever. NO ONE can understand or comprehend the loss until it happens to you. There is NO LOSS like the profound loss of child, none. Cling to your faith. Cling to God. STAY BOBER. The first year is, by far, the hardest. You never get over the loss however you learn how to have happiness in your life without guilt. We are not powerful enough to change what happened, we just aren't. God is my strength, my hope, my everything. He has PROMISED us a wonderful reunion in heaven. Lastly, people say REALLY dumb things. They do it because they don't know what to say. Our kids are not angels or floating around in the abyss, THEY ARE WITH JESUS.

I am so sorry!!!!! I do feel your pain as I, too, lost my 26 year old son. He was my first born and only son. He didn’t have the chance to have children or marry his fiancé. I am praying for you and I know this was a year ago, but time doesn’t matter when you’ve lost a child. You’ll always carry a part of him with you. Every time your heart beats, that’s him saying,”I love you and I’m right here.” He’s a part of you until God calls you home. May God give you comfort and peace for the rest of your life. Live for your son❤️I do that for mine❤ I talk to my son every day and I always will. Sending you hugs ❤ 🙏🏻
