Great video I would double check that right hand tensioner slackening on and off during rotation ,don't know much about these engines but not sure why 1 side would slacken on and off and the other seems constantly tensioned ... top work 👏
I am an anesthesiologist. i enjoy your videos. Mechanics is the only thing that relaxes me in these stressful days at work. Thank you for that and just keep it up. 👋 from Serbia.
Hi, Hope you read this :) There are markings that should line up. (for example when installing new VVT) I think it also says in Elsawin. At least it says so with my audi S6 2013 V8 4.0 The VVT and timing chain look identical. You also need to pretension the VVT with 40nm. While holding this 40nm pretension another person needs to tighten the bolt with 60nm. For bank 2 (The bank where you started working on first) You need to put the tool on the Intake VVT and hold this under 40nm tension clockwise with another person. While holding this you Tighten the EX vvt bolt with 60nm. While still holding 40nm tension on the tool you tighten 60nm on the intake VVT. Repeat on the other side BUT place the tool on the EX vvt pretension 40nm and HOLD and start with 60nm on Intake vvt. Then 60nm EX vvt. After that you need to remove the camshaft lockingtool and make a final 90 degrees on all the bolts. After that you do the 2 full turns. and after that you put all the tdc tools back hand tight to see if you are still on time. If you can contact me I can send more info with pictures and links to examples of how to do so. Don't forget to replace the bolts. I also have written in pt3. video the problem that I had with the chain railguide breaking off and it's maybe better to replace this cheap part in advance. Before it will get you troubles. This has happened to more people :)
Thanks! I have looked at your engine and it does state there is a mark on the adjusters and the head so you can install the adjusters in a specific position, but looking at my engine again it does not have any marks, I also cannot see any marks on the head, although there is a notch on the adjusters. So still none the wiser haha
@@SavingSalvage There is. It's the same. The notch on the adjuster needs to point between notch/small curve that has been cut out in the head/camshaft cover. at 14.48 in your movie you can clearly see the small curve in the cover. It is right opposite of the small black pen stripe you put on the ex vvt. there is also one on the opposite side on the intake vvt and same for the other bank. So the notch from VVT need to be pointing in that curve.
@@Audi-Rebuilder ahh yes I see it! It’s inside the housing so didn’t see it! Can’t even trust Elsa 😂... thanks for the help mate 👌🏼 even more hidden on the right hand bank!
Brilliant work dude, hats off to you for taking that on yourself, looks like a mission. Not sure I’d have the balls myself! Can’t wait to hear her purr 🙌🏼
I know virtually Jack about engines but that was a thing of beauty when you were rotating that engine 👍I pray it all goes well for my friend 🙏🙏 great videos!!!
Ah man! Getting it wrong is so frustrating. I've been there so many times with mine. I did camshaft and timing chain replacement and messed up cam girdle with the sealant. Very annoying! Very exciting to see this build. Can't wait to hear her fire up. Wishing you success.
Hi dean another brilliant video as always and the engine rebuild is coming along really well now and not long till it’s finished and hope you are staying safe and well
cant wait to see this back in the car, and first start-up, blowing out all the extra oil and stuff that comes out after a rebuild. Greath job, so far!! Be safe, /from scandinavia.
@@andrewstringfellow8448 look at the middle of the right side of the engine, one tensioner was going up and then falling back down, not sure if that's how it's supposed to be
@@andrewstringfellow8448 just found his comment saying it's the VVT's making those tensioners go wild, the will tighten up once the engine is powered up and has oil pressure
Hope your in good health and had a good xmas, fair play to you mate you grafted on that and I hope shes going to do you proud cant wait to hear her purrr
Really like watching your videos, 5 years into retirement from a VW dealership didn't work on anything as intense as these great lumps we were a Van Centre. All diesel as well. Good to see you using good old Elsa. You need to tidy that workshop! don't know how you can work in all that mess!! Great channel though. keep it going........Happy New Year.
