Hi everyone. First, thank you all so much for following along this build as it continued over the last 50 or so videos. Here’s the build URL on ADVRider you can read - advrider.com/f/threads/adamchandlers-big-cheez-2020-husqvarna-701-enduro-lr-build-thread.1491613/ . Second, sorry for the sensationalist video title but the last 3 bike builds have had the exact same video title so I’m sticking with it for now. See you all out on the road!

Waiting in Australia. I have never seen one with all the power Parts type set-up. Very impressive. The LR is by far the new kid on the block. Making riders forget about the GS Beamer range. Happy trails

Wow. Sweet bike! That is a lot of farkles 😆 I have a '23 701 with a few of the same mods, including the Puig windshield. I live in the Denver area, the 701 is perfect for exploring the many jeep trails and other off road opportunities here in the Rockies. With the Puig screen I found my front brake line being routed behind the headlight mask like it is on your machine would bind up as the forks compress. It wasn't a big deal, but it was kind of annoying. The solution I went with is to use longer mounting screws and some rubber spacers cut from thick marine grade fuel line, and to run the front brake line between the screen and headlight mask so it tracks like normal. Using fuel line to space out the windshield about 3/8" from the headlight mask sounds pretty "backyard" and it is I suppose it is, but once in place it looks fine and it is solid when tested at speeds I won't mention here. I also think the spaced out screen even provides a bit more wind protection, as it creates a "slot vent" behind it. Since you went down the Rottweiler road, consider the PC6 Rottweiler sells with their proprietary map for your configuration on it. I have a Yosh R77 with spark arrestor screen insert on my 701 and ran just the fueling dongle / 02 eliminator for awhile and that helped. Then I added the PC6 and I can't say enough how awesome it is with the full map. The low end power and throttle response are greatly enhanced, more power of course making throttle up (no clutch needed) wheelies stupid easy to initiate even at my Denver elevation, and it even sounds a lot better. The somewhat harsh and "blatty" sound from the pipe is now beautifully smooth and deep. Given this no holds barred build, I think you would really enjoy adding a PC6 from Rottweiler. The difference between just running the dongle and the dongle plus the mapped PC6 really is night and day next level stuff. It is not just about more power, the dynamics of how the engine feels and responds are just so much creamier, eager and better.

I’m doing something similar with my 701. I found that those carbon fiber TecMo covers will trap dirt and moisture and ruin the engine finish in no time. Also, I have a Seat Concepts seat but it was still too hard so I put an Air Hawk cushion on it. I chose hard luggage for my build.

"Do it right or do it twice" These modifications only hurt the wallet one time and now I can get many years of enjoyment with quality components from companies that have good warranties and support. I probably will keep the other covers on hand just in case but I'm lucky that my standard foot placement does not rub the covers so they don't seem to be showing boot scuffs yet but I'm sure that'll change. I need to adjust the brake lever down a little bit but all of the ergos are spot on. I am not ringing it out yet though since I'm still sub-600 miles. Hit 200 already today so I'll be at break-in service within a week or two then the fun begins. Wheeling over logs is SO easy with this motor.

Hi from the UK. I have the 701 LR and wondered if you have heard of anybody making crash bars for the front to guard the tanks?
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 2 месяца назад
I've been trying to get crash bars for years and can't find any. I had a shop willing to make some custom for me but they wanted $1000 and so I just haven't gotten around to doing it. In USA, there are only 200 701 LRs ever sold so there just aren't enough to justify any crash protection for a commercial shop.

Thank you Adam, your bike looks amazing. Did your bike run lean or hot with the Wings/air box mod? I want to do the same thing but from what I have read is that if I change one its okay but both I would need a PC to compensate fuel/air ratio. Thanks again. Ed
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 Год назад
Hi Eddie, thank you. What I did to overcome the lean issue with an aftermarket exhaust & air intake is I removed the OEM O2 sensor at the header and replaced it with a solid bung and an O2 Sensor delete kit from Rottweiler. This eliminates the lean fueling issue that occurs when going aftermarket on the air flow. Basically the bike has no idea I modified the exhaust. You could do it the right way and get a Power Commander but the bung solution was 10% of that cost.

Hey Adam how have you found this platform for maintenance/failures long term ? Im about to go down the KTM 690 road for a long term adventure bike. I know these platforms had many issues in 15/16/17/18 that had me 2nd guessing its reliability for a big KM/Mile adventure bike. how has your experience been and what type of distances have you covered ? cheers
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 Год назад
Hi Billy, so far I'm at 3,000 miles. The GS is still my primary travel bike so I could be the wrong person to ask but it has been a decent bike by KTM standards. I was expecting issues and I've had some namely I'm on my 3rd fuel pump which I hear is common in the 690/701 bikes. The clutch slave cylinder and the front fuel tank wiring were both recalls. My warranty expires in March and I know I'll be out at least $150 every time a fuel pump goes which really bums me out. That's with me doing the work myself. I'm expecting to have to do the fuel pump at least once a year at the rate I've been going. as for the bike, it's amazing. all day comfort, great range, great handling. I've camped off the bike and done overnighters maybe 12 times since buying it and have done a 400-500 mile day just fine.
@_billythekid
@_billythekid Год назад
@@AdamChandler86 thanks for the response. Good to know about the fuel pump issues. Guess you have to carry one with you everywhere you go. That seems a pain in the ass. I have decided after riding the GS850 Africa Twin KTM 1290 ADV R I find myself avoiding stuff that I traditionally like to ride and in fact I get myself into trouble at times with a 600lb bike when a trail turns to being something I have no business being on with such a large bike. I have yet to ride the 890 Adventure as a comparison to the GS 850 tho, but I assume they handle the same. But my plan is to ride the BDR routes south from Canada to Baja on the 690 Avoiding as much pavement as possible which is why the 690/701 is in the list of potential bikes. The other issue is you buy an new 690 And toss 5k at it in fairing kits, auxiliary fuel, seats, GPS etc etc to make it a longer tourer and the price jumps to 850/890 money. Bit of a dilemma I guess. Cheers again thanks for the info.
@AdamChandler86
@AdamChandler86 Год назад
If you can’t own 4 bikes, the 700 CC class is a good place to be. 690/ T700 / DessertSled, 850GS, 790 ADV, They’re still all different in weight and off-road worthiness and comfort. 701 is the most enduro of all of them. I think the Tenere 700 is probably the best 50/50 bike with he 850 Being the most road-worthy. -- If you have to ride 5 hours to dirt, it makes more sense to get a more road biased bike
@_billythekid
@_billythekid Год назад
@@AdamChandler86 Cheers Adam Im leaning heavily towards the 690/701 Platform just because of the weight alone. My biggest concern was really their reliability over long 10-20,000 km trips. compared to the Japanese counterparts. Even tho these enduro platforms stand alone in the marketplace there are a few bike reasonably close enough in weight T7 that it has me wondering if those options are better for my situation (Pan-American trip). However knowing me I'd try and shove a GS1200 or KTM1290 into the same trails so i'm trying to eliminate that situation. HA! There will be enough sand gravel rocks and mud on my trip that the larger bikes would have me going around those situations on paved roads rather than having a bit more fun with the smaller bike. Thanks for your time. Enjoyed the videos

@AdamChandler86 2 года назад
Hi lance, I actually need to weight it fully fueled and see where it comes in. I haven't done that yet. I still think it's sub-400 pounds or just over with the tanks full. A lot of accessories were met with removal of others so weight increases were minimal. The only word of caution is 690/701s are great bikes but they're not Japanese so if you're coming from a Honda background, just prepare for them to be a little bit finicky and definitely follow maintenance requirements by the book. As for changes, I'd like more wind protection but it's a great platform. I've had zero issues so far and a couple of recalls were done but not really necessary.
