i don't read many graphic novels but i'd recommend persepolis if you haven't read it before! it's a long book but it follows the life of a girl growing up in iran during and after the iranian revolution, it's quite sad at some points but a really good read
Six of Crows is SO good !! 👏 but I think I almoooost preferred Crooked Kingdom. also, there’s the new Netflix TV series coming out for the earlier trilogy so you’ll be reading it for perfect timing! 🥰
The Heroes of Olympus series is great! The Percy Jackson series was really just the beginning of the demigod world, and so much happens after the original series. One of my favorite things about Rick Riordan's books is that the characters all end up intertwined with each other one way or another. Like, despite the fact that some of his series's focus on completely different characters (he has books on Egyptian and Norse gods,) there are still references in them that let the reader know that they live in the same world as the demigods.
For graphic novels I think you'd really like Heartstopper by Alice Oseman! They are young adult male-male romance and are really adorable, you can read them online for free or there are three physical collections out at the moment! The prince and the dressmaker, the tea dragon society and the amulet series are also beautifully illustrated graphical novels you might enjoy :)
six of crows duology literally took my life in its hands this past year! shadow and bone is good but nowhere near six of crows level! the duology is so good i can’t even tell you which i prefer, as it seems like one big book.
Wow, so many thoughts! Spinelli was my favorite author as a kid. In fact, in my college when you declare English, it's a tradition to be asked what book made you want to study English. My answer was Spinelli's Milkweed. I'm recently obsessed with graphic novels! I'd reccomend Almost American Girl by Robin Ha, Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol, and I think you'd like Through the Woods by Emily Carrol. I read Anne of Green Gables last year because I love the adaptions; watch the Megan Follows version after reading for maximum emotion! For plus characters, I loved Dumplin' and I'm planning on reading One to Watch and Big Summer this year.
I just remembered a slight tw for Every Heart a Doorway! The main character mentions not eating for no disordered/diet reasons (it has to do with her fantasy story, but it's difficult to explain). Somebody also makes a slight reference to thinking she has an ed.
Wowow, I love your book choices! I used to read all the time when I was little and I still do, but I had to take a bit of a break because of the brain fog at the beginning of recovery. Right now, I'm into the last book of the Inheritance Cycle (aka the Eragon series. Would recommend!)
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden is very good. Book 1: The Bear and the Nightingale, Book 2: The Girl in the Tower, and Book 3: The Winter Witch. It takes place in Russia and follows a young girl, Vasya, with unusual gifts and a desire to protect her family and village.
charley you're going to LOVE the heroes of olympus series, it's incredible and has so many cool new characters! and all of leigh bardugo's books are also amazing!
You are going to love The Lost Hero! Some of the best characters in the Percy Jackson universe are from that series. I recommend the Soulless series by Gail Carriger! The lead character is a voluptuous lady, though I see her as more midsize than plus. She's super strong and the series is a fun comedy of manners/steampunk/fantasy adventure. Most of the characters are also LGBTQ+. A gem of a series.
I know that you enjoy graphic novs and one of my favorites is The Prince and the Dressmaker. It’s a cute little short story and the artwork is gorgeous! I also loved the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
An enchantment of ravens just was so good! It literally gave me so many feelings for some reason. The sweet, innocent romance just *chef kiss*. I have read a lot of books in my life. But for some reason it was like really beautiful?
Leigh Bardugo's books are SO GOOD! So glad you're reading them! I still haven't read King of Scars yet, though. Gonna try and read it this year too! :)
there’s a graphic novel called el deafo and it’s written in English and I read it awhile ago so I can’t remember it completely, but it’s based about a girl who loses her hearing and she thinks of it as her superpower rather than a weakness xx
Graphic novel recommendation(s): the March Trilogy! The trilogy is autobiographical and its about the civil rights movement told from the late John Lewis' perspective.
I read Little Women at the end of 2020 after loving the recent movie. I thought the writing would be slow/dense but I absolutely loved it!! Would love to hear what you think after you read !
