As the title states, herein lies a compilation of clips from all the uploads I've done to RU-vid, showcasing the progress of my voice. I'd be curious to know at what point in time you found my channel, and/or at what point you think my voice actually starts to be decent! In my opinion it's a very gradual change and I can't pinpoint it myself.
Apart from being fun to go back, see my hair change, and see how far I've come from my (terrible) first singing performances, this also serves a greater purpose: I've always heard of "natural talent" being thrown around, and I know lots of people look up to their favorite vocalists as un-achievable demi-gods. It's easy to look at someone's final product without realizing all the effort that was put in along the way. The best example for this is Spencer Sotelo from Periphery: listen to P1 and P4 and you can hardly tell its the same vocalist. I think it's the same for me. It's all about the INTELLIGENT effort you put in, and you will truly find improvements in your voice over many years.
I hope this serves as inspiration for people who think my voice is a far-away goal that they can never achieve. I think it's clear after seeing this video that it just takes time and dedication, and I believe that as long as you aren't a bass singer, anyone can hit the same notes and do the screams I do.
Thanks for watching! :D
And yes I do shamlessly plug vocal lessons at the end, but I think I'm ready at this point to be able to share my knowledge with singers who are trying to improve their voices. So if you're curious, comment below, or message me on instagram or facebook. Or check out my patreon!

Jun 2013 you start to lose almost any audible tension in your vocals, that must've given you some great confidence, your cleans start to sound smooth and rich, and by may 2014 your raw talent is close to unleashed, huge throws in your full voice range that are largely on pitch and staggering to the listener, I would have not seen that coming had I been following you from the get go. it was a very profound development, aug 2104....the scream, there it is, your bread and butter, raspy yet buttery, brutal yet delicate, amazing range...beginnings of greatness. Aug 2016 at 20 years old and your breath control is staggering, starting to hit on all cylinders vocally...since then your pitch has just gotten better and better to the point where almost all your vids cause multiple eargasms to the listener. I think covering those periphery songs put your musicianship on another level, they challenged you to master some excruciatingly difficult vocal techniques (false chord, fry etc.) and like I said, any pitchiness in your cleans or screams is largely dissipating at this point. By the time you're 22 I think you've found your niche, your influences like Chester Bennington are present but not defining, enough familiarity to grasp the listeners attention and then the flood them with unique qualities that keep us coming back practically daily. Don't ever stop....

It's still talent when he was younger. People are used to hearing high end production. Alot of the times if the person isn't a musician they can't see the talent in local music. It's just a clear difference between being on a local music level and then evolving to a professional top notch studio ready vocalist.

@HugoStiglitz88

@@drumboarder1 exactly dude. This is the problem I think a lot of non musicians and musicians have. They see someone good, or see someone get good quickly and say "wow, so talented" without realizing the insane amount of work we put into playing our instruments. I've seen so many musicians say the nonsense "i'm just not that talented" or "i could never get that good" but it's really just because they haven't put in the work and won't. Lately I call people out on it, but I never used to. I'mma start asking next time someone says they're not talented enough how often they practice per day. because most of the time I ask they, they don't even practice LOL maybe once a week. IMO if you wanna become great, 3 hours a day almost every day. Wanna become competent, at LEAST 1 hour per day, and it'll still take a few years no matter what. People get discouraged but they shouldn't. A lot of the people we all look up to as musicians have been doing it their ENTIRE LIVES!!! That's why they're so good. They've been practicing something for 20 or 30 years. They want the quick path to being good and that just isn't how it works.

By the end of high school and entering university I found I could sing easy mid range “normie” stuff and my non-musician peers thought I was a GREAT singer but all along I knew that was just really easy to do, and I wanted to actually challenge myself ie. sing songs that are too difficult for me :D ah so you’re new here! Amazing progress my dude! I noticed that as time went on, your high notes started sounding more full and powerful and not "squeezed out" for the lack of a better term. Was that a result of refining your technique or just muscle strengthening over time? Or just age?
@VictorBorbaMusic
@VictorBorbaMusic 4 года назад
Thank you! Yeah that's a good way to describe it, it's easy to want to SQUEEZE out high notes when you're starting off because you really just don't have the vocal strength for it yet. I don't know if its actually muscle but your voice is LIKE a muscle in that you have to develop its strength over time. But in terms of what you're asking, I think it's a mix of all of the above. I was refining my technique at the same time that my voice "muscles" were strengthening, and all while I was coming out of puberty and settling into my adult voice. In the last year though it was definitely from a change in my technique though (2018 -> 2019)

It was good to watch/listen to this. I've been learning to sing & recently come up against a wall & am trying to push past it. To see your progression gives me hope that I will be able to reach the standard I'm looking for...with time & effort. Your Jetpacks Was Yes & Nocturne clips were excellent. I've been learning Nocturne, but stuggle with the chorus!

This is a little inspiring. Truly takes time to develop skills (besides the gifted ones ofc). Your style is actually one of what I'm really after. We're almost the same age, just a year younger, and I just started vocals. I just hope it's not that late to get started ...because responsibilities as you get older and less time for hobbies. I guess 12 more years to go to put out a banger like you did for Bury The Light.

What's up Victor...This is great, you're great. The power with which you sing, wowww. And it's admirable....your desire to inspire. I didn't look that closely yet, but I could hear you sounding great covering some 30 Seconds To Mars. From Yesterday, perhaps? I actually have a request. I would love to hear you raw and stripped down. Do you play guitar or piano? If not, then using just a simple backing track. You, then instrumental and your mic...no other technology. Your natural voice! :) Now I'm going to listen to more of your stuff. Thanks again ✌️✌️✌️
@VictorBorbaMusic
@VictorBorbaMusic 4 года назад
Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that. I've thought about covering 30stm before, i'd probably pick The Kill if I were to do one. A stripped down version would be pretty cool, I was thinking of doing that eventually do that. If you look at my cover of Someone You Loved, I'm essentially doing what you're saying, but without playing hte piano

lot of hard work Vic, props to ya. Not alot can do what you did on your own. You should be bigger than you are. you really started to come into your own around 18-19 with all the practice and just kept growing from there. A few of your collab folks where i found you did the same. I believe at least halocene, and violet. Not to sure about Lauren. Love all you guys though! Need to tour through the east coast sometime around KY, love to see you all! Best of luck in your endevours!

damn this is actually really inspiring. i hope this isnt offensive but as a kid you kinda sucked lol. you were just a kid with an interest but not much talent but you stuck with it and now you are my favorite vocalist in this genre. i dont even like this genre idk what it even is except for you. you are insane. i thought singing was something you were either born with or you werent. but you obviously werent a naturally talent. and now you are an insane singer with a growing following thats dope af to me.

This makes me super happy, so cool to see your progression. 😀 Me, my girlfriend and a couple of friends were hanging out the other night and I decided to show them your members only cover. After it finished they were all extremely blown away by how amazing you are, the video ended and began an auto play queue. Long story short we let auto play do its thing and we ended up bingeing your videos all night haha 😂 They couldn’t stop talking about how under rated you are for the amount of talent you have and I’d readily agree, please never stop doing music man, you’re killing it 💕

So few people can sing periphery but you nail it. Spencer's range is inhuman so idk how you can do it lol But I like how this shows that you're not just good, you worked your ass off to get here just like any other great musician would. Vocals are a different kind of instrument but practice is practice and it still gets you places

Fun to see! with I had videos for all my stages. I'm 32 so the whole youtube thing (and phones or video cams) weren't a big deal when I started signing (18yo) as in the past 8 years.. Oh and also, it's like one day you were like "oh, wait, I'm a counter tenor, I can reach those..."

That was great to see Victor. You have covered some of my favorite songs, some are hard to tell from the original. Your progress is amazing, honestly I did not think that you could develop singing skills and talent but clearly you did. Way to go, great of you to put it out there for others to see your journey. I'm gona check right now but have you ever covered any Devin Townsend Project songs - that would be awesome to see and hear! And man would that be a vocal challenge as Devin is one of the absolute best there is out there in the prog rock world. How about something easy like Kingdom! You know I bet you can do it and i think it would be cool to hear your vocal colors and tones bringing a unique sound to Kingdom. Or pick another DTP song, he has tons of awesome songs! Cheers.

@@VictorBorbaMusic I'm not sure. I'm not super familiar with their stuff. Have you ever heard of monuments? If you were to ever do a cover of one of their songs I would recommend "Leviathan" or "Mirror Image". Chris barreto is the vocalist for them and actually used to be the vocalist for periphery a long time ago.

To see this man go from a mediocre vocalist with little range to a grandmaster vocalist with a incredible range is very impressive. To add he is self taught and sang a 9+ minute song with 93 million views and continues to increase to this day. Victor if you see this by chance did you ever think you would have a song under your name with nearly 100 million views?

@VictorBorbaMusic May I also ask for one request if you want to do so. Could you do covers of Metal Gear Rising songs? I ask that because Tyson Yen a metal gear rising vocalist covered bury the light and I saw a comment saying we need Victor to cover the only thing I know for real which is the song Tyson sang. It would be amazing to hear with your range but it's your choice.
