I can't understand why it's taken me so long to find your channel! Great great video 👍... I have a 336 in 30-30 and love it, and it's perfect for smaller game here in UK. But I recently bought an 1886 clone in 45-70 and I'm finding the calibre so great to play with... from subsonic to T.rex levels, it's so versatile. Thanks for posting
@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 2 года назад
Thank you, Richard! Both calibres are awesome, I don't have a 30-30 so of course, I'm completely biased here. It's true the .45-70 is very badass and highly versatile, especially if you have a longer barrel 22 or 26, which will make a huge difference in velocity. That will push a 300gr over 2500fps easy.

I recently got out with my new to me Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 after putting XS ghost ring sights on it and my first 2 shots with hornady 325gr ftx i put them in the same hole (from a bench rest).. so they are definitely accurate rifles!! Have to get an adjustable front sight for my XS sights though because they are still way off even after maxing out the windage on the rear sight. Nice setup you've got! ill be looking for a scout scope like yours. Cheers fellow Canadian and great videos.
@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 3 года назад
Thanks Spencer! For the scout scope I hesitated with Leupold Scout scope, and another from Burris, which is 2x-7x But I went with the fix 2.75, it was the most affordable option. No regret so far :)

Thanks a lot for your professional input, did use my Marlin GBL 45-70 with Barnes TSX 300gr this weekend. Shot a deer from approx. 110 yards, perfect hit and a very little meet damage, amazing little. So very postive and good for future hunting. Big greetings from Sweden

Hello! I'm currently moose hunting with the same bullet in 250gr. 300 are hard to find these days, and I had a stash of 250 left. They are amazing at what they do. Great accuracy and knockdown power. Thanks for dropping by!

I have the same rifle i have been thinking of putting on the xs sight set up. I dont know why i have not thought of a scout scope fer mine thank you. I have alot of burris scopes and some leupold scopes i still like my burris scopes better. Great video thank you.

I could have tried to get accustomed to the bullhorn, but... idk felt like i would have been missing on something. Burris are great, i do have 1 Leupold, i can't compare cuz its a 3.5-10x very different function, but both are built extremely well. Thank you!

I hunt the same way you do. I'm way too restless to sit in a blind or stand. I also prefer short, easy to handle medium to large bore carbines. My favorite bear gun is a Thompson Center White mountain carbine .54 cal percussion. It has a 21" barrel is 37" oal and weighs 6lbs. Next is my Remington 600 chambered in .350 Rem Mag with an 18" barrel, also 37" oal and weighs 7.5 lbs with a scope. My newest is a Thompson Center Encore chambered in .460 S&W Magnum with a 20" barrel, 34.5" oal and weighs 5.75 lbs. They are all quick handling, heavy thumpers that have served me well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful carbine. Another informative, and entertaining video!

I have a GBL as well but with a red dot sight. Favorite rifle by far and it got me a nice 9 pt buck a few months back. Actually used a barnes tsx as well and the deer only went about 5ft

@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 2 года назад
With the Barnes, I've only tested Vihta Vuori N120 and AA1680, (as their recommendation) The VN-120 & 300gr TSX gives me sub-moa groups, with a blasting 2060fps. Very deadly :) I've pushed the 250gr to 2360fps, but the groups opened to 1.85 inch, (100yards) Still very good hunting ammo. The aa1680, 250gr gave me 1.3inch groups at 2359fps

Hi love your review of the Marlin 45-70 I’m new to hunting I’m gonna start with an old Tikka M65 30-06 for deer hunting But I placed an order at Dante sport in Montreal for the new Marlin 45-70 made by ruger There getting a limited quantity, Will see if I get it this year!!! I will definitely try to make the Marlin 45-70 my primary hunting weapon for medium-big game. But for now the Tikka will do Plus that we live close by, I’m discovering nice spots to go to on your channel Love your channel, all good tips for beginners,thanks Will be following you for sure :)

Dante sport is awesome, this is where I got mine. Thank you for the feedback much appreciated! 30-06 is probably the best jack of all trade cartridge for hunting medium/big game. You will have plenty of fun with it, + it's a Tikka! Let me know when you get your Ruger, I might be tempted too :)

Greetings from Wyoming, after tracking a cow elk through heavy timber with a scoped 300 Win Mag, that a slob hunter had shot in the shoulder and didnt even bother tracking because he already had his bull, I wish I had a 45-70. I just traded a safe queen last week for a Marlin 45-70 SBL that I will actually use. I picked up a Burris fixed 2x scope and am currently looking for see through sights to mount it with. Great review and subscribed after the this video. Keep up the good work!
@WildBushGrit
@WildBushGrit 2 года назад
Thank you Eugene! Welcome to the Marlin's Owner Club, you will not regret! The see-through is a great idea, that will increase its versatility. And yeah easier to walk in the woods with ;). Have you managed to find the cow?

@eugenepage7248 2 года назад
@@WildBushGrit We tracked it all day down into a creek bottom at an hour before sunset when a cow moose came into the creek bottom and decided there were better ways to die besides being trampled by an angry moose. I wish we had found her and put her out of her misery but unfortunately that didnt happen.

@@eugenepage7248 Oh Wow, well... either she survived or wolves got a freebie. At least you tried, I hate it too when that happens. The first deer I ever shot, a beautiful mature doe, was never found, I searched for 3 hours, the blood trail disappeared after 200 meters. Me and 3 of my friends made concentric circles for hours without any trace. Till today it haunts me... but that experience made me a better hunter.

I’m in Alberta, some of my hunting is in prairie and I use the 270 win for that, but majority is in the mountains. That’s where I love the 45/70. Walking through grizz country doing everything they say not to around bears, being quiet etc. That’s when I like a fast handling rifle that is in my opinion great for deer and moose, and can also stop a cement truck. Lol
