Sorry this got delayed! As I share my beginners journey investing into Singapore REITS I hope it helps those of you who are looking to get started. To be able see what it could look like once you do. I chose a low cost brokerage to start with (Moomoo Singapore) as I was still pretty uncertain back then. I just wanted to start ASAP and paying lower fees as compared to a CDP linked broker (DBS Vickers) made sense. Moomoo Singapore became the one to go with because of their 1 Year Free Commissions Trade in the Singapore Market, a promotion that is still on-going.

Nice, good to start with retail REITs. Looking forward to more REITs video from you.

Demi, pls take note of Singapore Reits. It is very common that they issue rights and dilute the shareholder. Price fall when they do that. If u subscribe, u get deeper and deeper. If u dun subscribe, u lose out due to dilution. Just food for thought 😊

Thank you for sharing this! Exactly what has been on my mind too. Probably why I’m nibbling my way into each one. 😂

I got affected by First REIT actually. I held for many years now and it is absolutely heart wrecking. Exactly what you have mentioned. They have issued rights multiple times.

Another problem with SGX shares is the board lot size of 100. This can cause extremely capital inefficient trades. I had to scrap plans to build a dividend portfolio on SGX due to this very reason.

Can buy US REITS like realty income if getting passive income is your goal. Sometimes, the price is good where even after the dividend withholding tax, realty income is still offering a 3.87% dividend yield and they seemed to always raise their dividends. Despite the exchange rate risk, they can use their huge portfolio to make bigger moves or have better stability. SG Reits cannot see much growth unless they expand overseas or raise rentals substantially. Also, their balance sheet is crucial to be looked at. Better to buy SG consumer staple stocks for growth and/or dividends rather than SG REITS. Just my opinion and not financial advice.

never invest in foreign dividends due to withholding tax of 30%, best buy anything in sgx if u looking for dividends/cash flow especially if u are singaporean

If you buy REITs for the passive income (dividends) would you suggest re-investing the dividends into the REITs?
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 8 месяцев назад
I actually use the dividend and buy S&P because each dividend amounts to less than a 100 lots.

Will it be better to invest in Syfe-Reits instead more safer as they are etf.
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 8 месяцев назад
To a certain extent! If you don't want to choose what kind you'd like to hold and just want to DCA your way in, build that portfolio, receive dividends as passive income I think its similar to how I DCA into the S&P500 index fund over long periods of time. Just that for REITS, I want to pick what kind I hold hence I chose these few.

Hi demi, i have same thoughts as u. I have a small problem tho. Would be great if u can give some insights. U mentioned that you invested 500 per month, if 500/5 = 100. Means in a yr u will spend like 5 reits x 12 = 60 dollars for transaction fees. Assuming u invested 500x12 = 6000 and 5% yield, per yr dividend is 300 dollars. So from that alone, is around 20% of the dividend used for fees. Do u have a better way of DCAing the Reits? Or do you accumulate some money first, and buy when its cheap?
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 8 месяцев назад
Haha I actually do it quite sporadically. Not DCA-ing consistently into each one unlike the S&P index fund.

Are you not concerned about the custodian of your shares versus held in CDP. ?

Moomoo's parent company is Futu Holdings a Nasdaq listed company. But you are right, even so, there's still a risk but I'd say it's a risk I'm willing to bear. Additionally, I don't hold all of it in 1 trading platform. I use DBS Vickers, Syfe etc.

Is buying SG stocks on Syfe a good idea? Cos you don't really own the stocks to your name. Or it doesn't matter?
@RuChernChong
@RuChernChong 8 месяцев назад
My personal take is, it does not really matter. Unless you are really interested in the voting rights and their meetings.

I covered this here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZlB6uVOyPAg.html My take on which and how I'd combine the use of both, one that links to CDP in your name and a custodian kind of broker.

What are your thoughts about SYFE REITs?
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 8 месяцев назад
I'd say go into it if you don't want to think what kind of REITS you want to hold. Syfe REIT+ tracks the SGX iEdge Index.

Good luck. Reits plus sg stocks is a recipe for failure.
