Japan is not the only country that is super strict when it comes to statements that damages another person's honor and reputation, and the victim can also seek economic compensation for the emotional harm caused by the defamation. It falls under article 230-1 in the criminal code of Japan. The "friends" of OP who lied about her bf showing them her private pics defamed him. In the US he'd probably not get far with such a lawsuit, but in many other countries he certainly could.

If I was Josh, the only way I'd consider getting back with OP is if she dropped all those "friends".

Op trusting her friends is not a bad thing. What the friends did waste bad thing. Josh picked someone he clearly still missed and loves who just trusted longterm friends when they tried to warn her. It would've been his prerogative to stay gone or to date her then dump her because it's not working out. He deserves the best. But she's not the problem. Her ex friends were.

Tho in this situation the wife seemed genuinely remorseful and regretted doing it as soon as they started having sex with the AP, and stopped it after a one time hookup. The end result seemed like a healthy resolution and not a "Well stay together for the kids" but it's reddit so it's 90% fake lol

Similar but very much not the same. I would not tolerate my friends telling me how they think my relationship should be especially over a longer period of time. However, if my friend group would come together and as a whole would tell me my partner did what they said he did, I'd have a hard time believing they would be lying.

How did she not notice the other guy's interest in her? It's gullibility and naivete to the maximum degree. Yes, the "friends" were wrong, and more or less raped her by deception, but all it took to prevent this was the tiniest bit of critical thinking.

You can't build a future with someone who doesn't trust you, and has such poor judgment in making friends that their entire friend group can lie to them and torpedo the relationship. Others may feel differently, but for me, that's a definite line that can't be uncrossed.
