You mentioned a catalog, where would you get a Brigham catalog? I looked at their website and it has not been updated in 10 years. I see several new pipes on smokingpipes.com that I like - I have been eyeing the big shape #15 :)
Ya their website is a tad old haha. My local B&M is a dealer for Brigham and when I was in there I was asking for a specific shape so they let me look through a catalog that listed Brigham's pipe shapes (some shapes are only made for specific lines e.g. shape #19 is only made in the acadian, Klondike, heritage, and chinook lines) They list this information on the site if you click on a specific line of pipes it will show you the shapes in that line. However, they also make 'special edition' shapes that are not listed on their site/catalogs such as the retired shape #25 which I have in the chinook line. Smoking pipes is a great site for finding pipes, I find their prices are morse expensive than my local B&M. Shape #15 is a beaut for sure! I would love to add one more to the ongoing collection :)
Good question, The lacquer finishes are a recent addition from my understanding as they don't look lacquered on the more vintage sportsman. I had email correspondence with Brigham and they indicated the sportsman had started in the 1960's and ended in 2002. Locally and online I see the recent ones going for around 99$ CAD. The more recent ones are getting harder to find as they slowly get bought up. The vintage ones can very in price based on the dot number and shape they are in. I like the look of the vintage sportsman's and sometimes just remove the lacquer to give them that classic look.
Thanks, very much appreciated! Im from Calgary actually, not very much pipe culture out here, but maybe I'm not looking in the right spot? I have ordered online before but I find the local B&M's are pretty close to online prices. Pipes from the states I found are more expensive with exchange rates and shipping vs. local prices so I do most of my shopping local unless its a brand or shape I can't order in.
