Built motors are not bulletproof. If there is anything I want you to take away from this video is exactly that. Just because you invest in forged engine internals doesn't mean that something can't happen to damage your motor severely. I got excellent usage out of my Iroz Motorsport built motor, and will now need to rebuild in order to continue drag racing.

A couple things I missed in the video: I will also be testing my ID1300 port injectors to make sure they weren't the cause of my failure. I'll report back on my findings on my social media pages in the coming weeks. I used this Iroz Motorsport built motor for not only 43,xxx km's, I also used it successfully for 4 years without a single hiccup.

So what I gather from this is that most likely the motor already had some damage to the piston or sleeve from before the dyno, as you suspect mostly caused by the leaking injector probably messing up the AFR and making the other cylinders go lean, and then the dyno run just put the final nail in the coffin, is not the first time I see this thou, and I have learned that you have to check the motor thoroughly before doing or testing a new tune, a few minutes checking could have saved the motor. You live and you learn, stay strong and keep rolling, we all learn through this hard moments.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi Год назад
You must have missed the part of the video where I said a few days prior to the dyno session I logged the car and it looked and felt perfect. We believe it was injector failure. No one suspects there was any damage to the piston or sleeve prior to the dyno. Direct injector failure is common on this platform.
@krnt13
@krnt13 Год назад
@@VancityAudi I understand that, but from my experience if you inspect the pistons prior to the a dyno session you will find a lot of surprises I have saved several engines that way. The first one was my own project where I saw that, thanks to white thermal protection layer that I applied to the piston I could clearly notice the hot spots done by the inconsistency of the injectors, it was not the same case as yours, but thanks to someone that insisted me in checking it I learnt.
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi Год назад
@Krnt13 I guess you don't dyno test cars very often then because that would be a lot of work. During the course of any year, I'll dyno test my cars 10-20 times sometimes. Never with a single issue until now. What you're suggesting is not common practice.

I'm so sorry Adam!! I really felt bad for you when I saw this after the b9 vid. I know how you feel man, my old Honda motor was fully built and sleeved sent from Florida to Cali for some Golden Eagle sleeves. All fully forged parts, my engine blew up 3 times, twice during tuning the AEM EMS and once a year an a half later after running great. Still to this day I have no clue why it popped on me while driving normal. It sits in my garage with 35k worth of upgrades and will probably never been driven again because my money is now spent else where. I did however go to a larger piston each time I had to bore the cylinders out when it blew. I know you mentioned doing the one which would be nice and easy but each time you over bore your putting in bigger pistons and increasing the liters. If your current motor (BTW I HAVE NO IDEA ON THE RS3) can handle a larger bore with bigger pistons, could take more boost then maybe it can take and make more power in the end?!? Just a thought, if the sleeved block can be over bored to a certain point then it might be worth doing to see what you can push out of it. If its no better then unfortunately its time for a new block and back to the norm.
@WeI3I3y
@WeI3I3y Год назад
On my old Honda replacing 1 cylinder was not possible as it was a closed deck so it all had to be done at the same time. If you can do 1 then yes that is the cheapest way out for sure. But like I said if you do increase all you could see great gain's in the end. More than what stock spec motors are currently doing with the proper setup.

Direct injection on daza operates at a maximum of 2,100 psi. normally if you run only e85 and the car sits for weeks at a time, you have to have the injectors cleaned before every racing season. e85 does tend to block and mess with injectors over time and this is on any platform. I would suggest buying an injector cleaner and cleaning them twice a year. you got lucky that sleeve took the damage and saved the cyl wall of the block. Also, change your fuel filter and check your fuel pump strainers before every racing season, e85 crystalizes and or gums up in things.

Fair enough, Car could be on target but the tuner could've just been way too lean with it. I see tuners running e85 lean as fuck, simply because there's no detonation but nobody accounts for the rich air fuel ratio mixture required to keep the components cooler by absorbing some of the heat with the leftover fuel
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi Год назад
@@rokey121 it's not too lean. This tune has been successfully used on 100's of people's cars without any issue. As I mentioned in the video we hadn't even turned it up and was running the most basic tune when this happened.

I’ve seen a shit load of DAZA’s start failing over here in the UK lately. Poor tunes, injector failures, human error. It comes with the territory though I guess. More people can afford these cars now and Stage 3 solutions on stock motors are achievable. One needs to be reminded 700bhp out of a 2.5litre 5 pot is seriously impressive. Let alone these 700+ builds going on. Ultimately you have to pay to play.

Just curious for my own comparison- how often with that power and e85 do u change the oil? Not times u gone to the track but highway shenanigans…
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi Год назад
I don't do any highway shenanigans, lol. Just drag racing and getting to and from the shop and track. At this power level I would expect you to change your oil at every 5000 miles/8000 kilometers, if not sooner.

How about the port injectors? If one did not inject you would run probably 60% fuel in that cylinder and that would melt the piston in seconds.
