So you were pretty spot on in a lot of your analysis, but to fully get the song you need the context of the rest of the album. Basically, the character in the song has gone to war where he's been forced to kill and that changed him fundamentally. Things like, "You should have raised a baby girl" meant "If I were a girl I wouldn't have been drafted into this war and had to become this monster". He even says "But this sh*t that I've done with this f**k of a gun, you would cry out your eyes all along" basically saying I'm not the baby boy you raised anymore and I'm ashamed.

The song is essentially a song about a young man going to war and committing atrocities that his Mama will never forgive him for. In the concept of the album it feels like it's set in WW1

The album is set between two different characters the patient and the parade man a.k.a. death and this song takes place at the parade mans background before he became the parade man and he was a soldier during World War I who never went to heaven or hell his job was to lead dying souls to heaven or hell (the patient)

Honestly you aren’t really wrong about Gerard, the singer. He was literally on his way to pitch a cartoon to cartoon network when 9/11 happened and it caused him to call old friends to see if they were happy with their lives and if not if they wanted to form a band. So jack black really isn’t much of a stretch

I do think it's a bit underrated because it's so theatrical and less immediately catchy. But when that song gets chugging--ho boy. I only wish it were longer :)

I find it incredibly difficult to say any album is the best ever, but Welcome to the Black Parade is _definitely_ one of the best. Greg worded it well when he said it's MCR's "The Wall". Black Parade is an absolutely phenomenal album

My Opinion: They are soldiers, going to war. Mother is saying "mind your manners when you go there, and don't come back to me my love". Soldiers went to war, got dismembered, mentally and physically. War changes people, war is hell. They're all food for the worms, born to kill, ruined for any normalcy in life... They all went to hell and some came back. Mama's heart is broken by atrocities committed. "You should have raised a baby girl, I could have been a better son"... thoughts going through soldier's head. This song is heartbreaking actually.

Based on specific lyrical choices i think its more connected to the First World War, Listen Closely and if you know what WW1 was like or atleast have an image, you'll see what i mean.

Gerard actually first started out as a comic artist, he's to that know, but other than the drugs morbid movie interest and personal struggle, im pretty sure a good amount of his work draws inspiration from his comic projects. in this song he is mostly talking with himself, but some of these things could be personal things said between the two. when he spiraled into drugs, in alot of his later songs we blatantly talks about it, and he and his mother early in his music career had falling outs bc of his life style. we all pretty much watched this man fall apart.

Okay one last fact just so you know that's Liza Minnelli at the very end of the soundtrack. Gerald Way loves her and she's his favorite singer and he does a lot of impressions since she's kind of his favorite singer not point the point is that she agreed to do the very end of the song. So yeah that is Liza Minnelli.

His name is Gerald Way by the way lol. But seriously he actually writes for he does a comic called the umbrella academy and now it's television show on Netflix so you know where Gerald Way is these days. He decided that he wanted to write a comic books you're right he's wicked creative. Right now he's making five awesome Hi Five Hardgreeves is my favorite character.

💯 Agree! Cut the Cord is 🔥🔥🔥 and I agree about the lyric interpretation. I always thought the song was about getting clean from drug addiction, but like you said- it could be interpreted many ways- a bad relationship, addiction, etc. etc. etc. IMO, one of Shinedown’s best songs…. It’s a BANGER! ❤️🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥

It's about a son who sent himself to a war. He had a beef with his mom. In the song, it's as if he's talking with his mom, recounting the sins he had done against his mom. "Mama we all go to hell" means "Mom we're going to a war"

I think you’d really like Propaghandi’s musical story telling. Victory Lap, Lower Order (A Good Laugh), Failed Imagineer or Adventures in Zoochosis are phenomenal musically and lyrically. I highly recommend any of these. They’re amazing. Love your videos. Thanks for making them for us.

I personally thought this song was about a mother dying, and what you're supposed to say to them is "It's ok we'll all go to heaven" when really we're probably just gonna die and rot in the ground, and you'd have to be as manic as this song is to tell the (likely) truth, and while you're at it slip a few more truths in while you have the chance cause you won't get another.

It's a bit of an ironic song really - Mother raising a son, the son becoming a soldier, only knowing she wouldn't agree with the thing's he's done, but in a sense he's saying? You raised me, deal with it. You're human too, just the same as I am... IMO anyway! Check out some of their live acoustic versions too at the penthouse. They do a great version of Under pressure by Queen and David Bowie with the Used. Gerard is a genius - no denying that. He was an artist, turned comic book writer and drawer. Gerard has had a lot of problems in the past, alchohol problems and depression and bulemia and some of their stuff reveal his dark side. But there's no doubt the man is def a genius! Sing is one of my faves and underrated imo. There's also Desolation row - Na na na - Teenagers - so many!

No!! No!! Not!! love Jack Black but he and Gerard Way are not similar! The Black Parade is a concept album- if you haven’t already it should be listened from beginning to end.
