This is a little kit I put together that has the Stanley Cup in there and the Ozark trail cup. I like it fits the stove for canisters inside i am hopping the 3.5 oz canister will fit nested inside. I will be testing this kit out tonight when i go for a over night hike.
If you have any suggestions please let me know.
I will be lighting up the spice it after the test.

This is the beauty of RU-vid. Brilliant ideas here. I am a Motorcycle Camper. As such I'm not quite as concerned about small and light as a pure backpacker, but I'm a close 2nd. You do have to pack small and light on a bike. The Spritzer for the oil and the glitter shakers for spices are brilliant ideas. I do not like the Stanley cook kit. It's too narrow and deep for my use. I use an Out-D alcohol stove and the Stanley is too narrow to fit on the stove stands. I went with the Redcamp nonstick kit from Amazon as it's shorter and wider and fits on my stove better.... and... it's NON STICK! But whatever works for you works for you. Thanks for the video! Mahalo!

Some good ideas. I watched this earlier and really like the idea of the glitter bottles. Now, 3 years later, at Dollar Tree you only get 3 for a buck. But, then, that's about all I ever take on a trip anyway.

Great idea on the spices. Better then tic tac containers. When ever I go to a fast food place and walkin, I take a few of the salts, pepper, and sugar packets.

Very nice cook kit. All you need is a pot cozy to go with it . . . wouldn't add much weight at all.

Ex military so I've spent more than my share of sleeping under the stars. The glitter shakers, nice idea but any moisture, as you'll no doubt have experienced the world over with salt and pepper shakers, nothing's coming out. I had 3 or 4 small plastic containers, wider opening and 2-3 times the size. Ground chilli powder, ground coriander, ground cumin, guaranteed to transform any meal. And Tabasco sauce. As rugged a bottle as you'll ever find, it was meant for camping.

Like the glitter idea. So many vlogs pushing those $45 titanium pots. Have the same outdoor products stainless steel pot, just a couple dollars and only weighs an ounce more. They work great, yet to have a problem.

Have you tried the esbit type solid fuel wafers, It will keep your pack weight down? Then, you could supplement your pack with either more food and/or better, more comfortable sleeping gear. Also, sometimes the noise from the stove drowns out the beautiful sounds of nightfall. I liked your spice kit. Some places sell a medicine/vitamin pouch that you can substitute with spices. That is my rig and it works well. The Stanley pot is good, but sometimes I've used a nesting kit that has 3 pans, 2 lids and a small cup(about the same weight as the Stanley). I put small tongs, cheese grater with them. Okay, so I am a chef out in the wild. If the Mrs goes, she'll carry the Stanley with the 2 cups. Good vid-- keep experimenting. Jb.

If you don't really want to many spices use clear straws and just fold it over about half inch at the end use plier to hold it shut and use a lighter to seal it and fill up and repeat on the other end be sure to leave about and inch empty tho

love the idea with the glitter bottles for holding spice... I usually use the old plastic camera film cannisters. but find they may hold more spice, but you have to pour into the palm so as not to waste to much. Enjoyed this vid..Wondering if your gonna be showing some of your outdoor meals you make using this kit ?? Cheers ;-)) have a great day

hey small tip for the lid remove the green plastic handle and replace it with a metal key ring loop, and you do not have to worry about melting that handle should you want to set it in the fire for example

try using drinking straws and seal them with a hot pair of pliers then write with sharpy. then it's moisture proof. works great for meds and Neosporin get the straws from McDonald's they seem to be bigger.

I just went and picked up some glitter shakers from the dollar store, they cost me 10 bucks. Okay they were a dollar each for a pack of five and I got two of them. The rest was spent on junk food and I got some glue. I figure my neighbor's girl's can enjoy the glitter.

Instead of the oil [cuz it can go rancid]....take drinking straws and stick that straw straight into a can of Crisco. Using a brand new wire snip [degrease it by dipping in rubbing alcohol and lighting on fire], heat the snip blades over a flame and "cut" the straws into 1" lengths. The heated snips cut the straw...but also seal...each end of the 1" straw. Simply pop open and use.

Pappy yep, works great. I store mine in appropriately labeled Altoids tins. A note on labels...make sure your labels AND THE INK USED on them are both waterproof... The process also works for other needs....dry spices, antibiotic ointments and if you are a hunter, urine lure/cover scent "capsules." For the urine capsules, seal one end and using an eye dropper [usually supplied with the urine], fill the straw and seal. To use it, simply drop on a rock and step on it - BUT - don't litter. Pick them up after the hunt, stick them in a Ziploc and discard with trash. Remember - leave no trace.

It works great, very handy. The problem though is that plastic straws are well known to be an environmental disaster. It's always nice to avoid waste and to find reusable alternatives.

anyone looking for shakers try Wal-Mart in the craft section. be careful of the ones from drug-mart and rite aid the tops are hard as hell to get off but it can be done, I had to use a eyeglass screwdriver to pry them off, at wal-mart the shakers are about .97cents for 5 and the screw tops run about 1.69 for 6.

+Chris Fearon look at Wal-Mart in the craft section, they have almost the same as these and a screw top model. I looked at dollar tree myself and they seem to have gone to glue/glitter mix. watch the ones from drug-mart and rite-aid the tops are hard to get off, at Wal-Mart the shakers are .97 cents and the screw tops are about 1.69

WARNING! Regarding the re-purposed glitter spice containers: It’s best to *AVOID the Crafter’s Square® brand* when you’re roaming the aisles of the local Dollar Store looking for components for this kit. The plastic containers themselves are fine, but the lids are *unbelievably* shoddy. Contrary to what some folks have said in the comments about the tops being impossible to remove, I’ve found that: 1.) The lids are practically impossible to open, as the prongs that plug the holes in the lid are seated too tightly to facilitate easy opening. This would be a mixed blessing; as such an arrangement would help prevent the tops from popping open and spilling spices all over. However … 2.) The entire lid assembly just barely stays on the containers anyway, which means that when you try to open them, the entire lid assembly comes loose before you’ll ever succeed in getting the actual lid open to reveal the shaker holes. These things look like they’d pop off with little more than a stern glance. These Crafter Square® glitter sets are indeed running five for a dollar at the local Dollar General and (assuming that the shoddy quality is consistent) simply not worth the buck you’ll throw away. The items showing in this clip look identical to the ones I bought today and deemed unusable. I think the ideas in this clip are worthy, which is why I threw down a buck for the glitter kit. However, I’d just recommend spending a bit more to get something usable. You get what you pay for, and based on my experience, the *Crafter’s Square® brand is useless*. FYI. Thanks.

@NorthCarolinaPrepper
@NorthCarolinaPrepper 10 лет назад
What would you like to know about it? Burn time,temp, how long the gas will run if the take is 37% full at an altitude of 1736 ft and 37 deg? I really don't know the answer to the last part , but The full will boil 1 cup of water in about 4-5 min and cook 2 meals a day and last over 3 days. Next time i go on a 3 day hike i will weight the can before and after to estimate the fuel usage and number of minutes burn time . The camp stove is a "Ultralight Backpacking Canister Camp Stove with Piezo Ignition 3.9oz" amazon price is $5.84

@Inura Facititia Knowing what will work best vs. actually having somewhere to get whatever's necessary is the battle in throwing a cook kit together. The way this guy's using glitter shakers ads real spice to the otherwise dull mode of discovery he'll be faced with out in the woods when gathering whatever's there to flavor his food. This is a cook kit video, if you want a stove review then search for one.
@monj33
@monj33 9 лет назад
North Carolina Prepper An alternative to carrying little shakers is to score capsules full of herbs and spices from the dietary supplement area at the grocery store then throw an assortment of whatever's preferred into a single bottle. Empty capsules can be found on ebay to fill with whatever.
