I got the copper IUD almost two months ago now. For anyone who is considering it. I would highly recommend that you find a doctor who will insert it while you’re on your period so that your cervix is dilated. And if you already experience bad cramp. You need to increase your water intake a week before your period. This will decrease the cramping for sure! My first period on Paragaurd wasn’t bad at all. I spotted for a week before my actual period, where the cramps felt like someone was socking me in the gut. But once I started drinking 16-32 oz of water a day. I had no cramping and had a normal 5 day cycle without any pain meds!

I’ve had mine for a year now and the peace of mind and lack of hormones are so worth it. However every month it does tend to punch me and remind me it’s there.

long-time paragard owner, here. i was all about the non-hormone birth control. my periods are heavier, but shorter. i have minimal cramping. i’m cool with that. i agree with you that we need to acknowledge what a sacred thing our moon cycles are. using a cup rather than tampons has been a super positive experience for me, too. i’ve had a couple partners that got “poked” by the coiled string / wire that you use to check that the iud is still in place. just little scratches.. he lived.. lol. great video & great message. 🙌

Hi! I know this is an ancient post lol but I’m just now researching this method of BC and one of my friends told me you can’t use a cup with it because the suction can pull it out or dislodge it to the point of being ineffective, has this been your experience? I love using my cup so I hate to have to give that up 😢

@@PerfumeCognac I've used a cup with no problem! Just make sure you are properly breaking the seal on the cup, but its fairly rare to have the cup dislodge the IUD. If you are still worried about it, Menstrual Disks are a great non-suction reusable option!

I got my copper iud about a month after you did. I remeber watching your 2 first videos and they really helped me. Also I feel the same way about everything you said it's so worth the 5 seconds of pain it took to put in. Also recently started using a period cup. Seriously reccomend if you haven't tired it. I love being in tune with my womb but also doing birth control that feels right. Before getting on the copper IUD, I tracked my cycle gave myself time with my menstrual phases. And knowing my fertility window with my partner, while using condoms, but I’m currently in a stage in my life where I want to feel more secure and in control. The IUD has given me that power, still tracking my cycles. This is just extra insurance in my love life. I’m grateful to have a supportive partner going through the process with me as much as he can, and hearing me whenever I have small freak outs about my IUD, only had it for about two weeks so hope acclimating to it gets easier.

Just got my hormonal IUD today! You described it so well I wish I watched this before, but the first cramp is actually not the metal piece that opens (they also use that for other things to make sure everything is good and they can do their work to check your vaginal health). The first cramp is the measurement of the length of the canal, cervix, and uterus. The second is the pinching of the cervix to be able to place it and the third is the placement! It is super quick (I recommend you don’t have them explain in detail like mine did during bc you can’t really focus when you’re in that pain and you should just be breathing tbh). I feel like her talking may have taken longer but she may have also been teaching the other nurse who was there not sure. Loved having someone with me during it! I highly recommend and I told them it was making me nauseous and the 2nd and third made me feel like I was gonna pass out, so she may have been talking to me to make sure I didn’t pass out. 🤷‍♀️ Anyways, like you said it is bearable for many but anyone who felt violated like you or in excruciating pain is SO valid. I did not feel violated bc of my nurse practitioner being so amazing and because of the fact that I’ve only ever had extremely amazing experiences with sexual health & all my sexual experiences have been consensual (very blessed for that too). I feel after having it done that you definitely want that time to recover afterwards (don’t stress or exert yourself in any way if you don’t need to). But I understand why it’s not a surgical procedure since it can be done very quickly. I think being in a relaxed space is very important too so stay hydrated and use your coping skills to make yourself just feel the best you can for a hard day. We were joking about me ~romanticizing my IUD placement~ and I love that for me because I don’t want to have kids (I already work with them and love them but it’s just not my journey).
@Mikaylap713
@Mikaylap713 Год назад
My point: the metal opener does not hurt for most ppl, but during the procedure I did notice that my cramp didn’t end until they took it out. Like you said just extreme internal cramping pain that is like nothing else if you have not had children/contractions & personally I’d relate it too a heavy period where your entire lower half just feels extremely sore and tired from using period products (like heavy tampons) when you’re already having a rough time. It’s very crampy and uncomfortable but there is relief and it does end!
@Mikaylap713
@Mikaylap713 Год назад
Also, personally I feel like I could’ve driven myself but it did hurt to sit down right away so it would’ve taken a second. I also didn’t get the copper Paraguard which is slightly larger so who knows 🤷‍♀️ just for those who don’t have another person available to drive. You will be okay 👌

Thanks for making this update! I got mine inserted back in November and your previous videos really helped me make that decision. I also have back pain and cramps during ovulation (but it's totally worth it!) You’re so right about ovulation and I love how she enjoys her period but I have PMDD so I’m really hoping that this form of hormonal BC can work for me this time around. I just got it so I’m not sure if I’ll have to switch to the copper one but it was a good process so I’m willing to do it again if necessary! Not nervous anymore bc of informative conversations like this and amazing nurse practitioners like the one I had (big S/O to pain relievers too lol).

I had one placed almost 20 years ago and I didn't feel the compassion from my family doctor. I didn't have a nurse holding my hand. I got a lecture from my doctor who I guess was catholic and was actually trying to shame me about it. Yes it hurt in a way that I never expected. I sat up from the table and I almost passed out. I guess this pissed off the doctor. Eventually they got me a glass of water and my boyfriend. Then I got a bill for 1500.00. Since then I have had 3 Mirena IUDs and I have not had a period or cramps in 12 years. I plan to have one until menopause. After a year and a half I don't think you have to worry about yours shifting. I think it has "nessled" in it's spot for you. I got the copper IUD because I was uncertan about the future. I was in a toxic and abusive relationship with my boyfriend and truely didn't want his child. When I was on the pill it was such a hasstle to get the 25.00 co-pay every month. I even purchased mexican birthcontrol pills 9 packs for the equivilant of 5.00! I love your video, and I wish you all the love and happiness for your future.

I’ve had the copper iud for more than 5 years. I barely remember the insertion. It didn’t really bother me. I guess it’s different for everyone. My period is every 5 weeks, so it doesn’t sync up with the moon at all. Hormonal contraception is not an option for me since I had cancer and now have epilepsy and am on medication for that.

You don’t have to take the pill exactly the same time daily. As long as it’s close or you do the 2 pill thing the next day if you forget. I can tell you I did develop side effects after many years of taking the pill so it’s a good thing you stopped after such a short time. With the IUD just be careful. Someone I know actually got pregnant with heartbreaking results as you can imagine. If it works for you and you check in with your gyno then cool.

Hello. What is the cramping like? Is it something like period cramps or even worse? I'm used to having big cramps on my periods 2nd day. Should I expect something worse? Also, if the recommend getting it inserted during your period, is it possible that your cramping from newly inserted IUD will just blend in with the cramps that are already there from having a period? BTW that mild cramping you mentioned you experience during ovulation I think it's not from the IUD. I also never noticed it when I was a teenager or in my early 20s, I don't know if it wasnt there or I just wasn't paying much attention to my body but now in my mid 20s I do feel soft cramping too. And it makes sense if you know how ovulation happens - basically you got a small cyst on your ovary and that cyst bursts open and releases your egg that is then grabbed by the fullopian tube. I'm seriously considering getting this non-hormonal IUD inserted too but I am very scared of the procedure of inserting and taking out. My periods are already on the heavier side. Not super heavy but defo on the heavier side, they are 6 days, sometimes 7 days long and I've heard this copper IUD can make your periods even heavier or longer Anyways I've already cried a few times about how it's 2023 now and we still don't have any better options of birthcontrols. By the way, how was your first sex experience with an IUD?
@BellColeman
@BellColeman Год назад
hi there! i actually got my IUD taken out last month, i'm planning on making another video about it. the removal process was not bad at all. to answer your questions, the insertion is much worse than a period cramp, but the intense feeling only lasts a minute or so. the cramping following insertion is just your body getting used to it. it's very invasive and your cervix and entire womb is adjusting to the foreign object. just be patient and breathe into it. sex was fine. the penis will feel it sometimes. it's not a big deal. i'll dive more into this in my video - the copper IUD was a great experience for me but looking back on it, i'm not sure it was completely necessary. i'm not a super sexually active person, i only have one sexual partner at a time, and at this point in my life, i'm 26, and i'm on my awakening journey and that inevitably has to do with my relationship to my own womb. having a deep connection to my cycle and the 4 parts of it, every month, has changed my life. learning that i'm actually only fertile a couple days during my cycle is something i was not taught growing up. at my appointment for removal, i was told about "phexxi" - check it out, phexxi.com. 'Phexxi Is the First and Only Hormone-Free Prescription Birth Control Gel That You Control' - it's a pre-sex gel you insert into your vagina. i have yet the need to use it because my partner and i have been completely fine by living by the cycles of my womb, but this feels like a great non-invasive method. i still will rep the copper IUD as the best birth control option for people who are sexually active and want to just live their lives and be 99% sure they won't get pregnant, but it's not for everyone, every body is different and unique, so if you're still considering it - i say go for it, you're called to it for a reason. if anything you get it taken out, and it's not painful :) sending you love and deep breaths which ease your stress and allow your body to fully relax into the knowing that you're divinely supported and guided every step of the way.
@Mrkva22296
@Mrkva22296 Год назад
@@BellColeman so nice of you answering my questions! I've heard about the fertility awareness method, it's just that my cycle is not super tip-top regular. I think I can spot my symptoms when I'm fertile, one of the many symptoms being higher desire for intimacy. How do you go about having sex during your fertile days? Do you just completely avoid it? Cause I barely have any sex drive outside of the fertile period. It's like you have to abstain just when it's the best. I've also heard about phexxi, actually a couple people I know, men and women have used it and reported that they felt burning sensations. Including my current partner - his ex used it and it used to burn him too. I also heard its only about 70% reliable. Me and my partner've been using latex-free condoms for 8 years and I'm seriously looking for some change. It's just that I can't do hormonal things one due to my own beliefs, second gave it a chance twice in my life and it just confirmed this isn't for me.
