Interesting, why do they make the valve out of two different metals? I'm guessing its because the more heat-resistant material for the exhaust valves is not suitable for a valve stem?
I had 1254000 on my N14, and dropped exhaust valve on cylinder 5. It snapped in the same spot as yours. It ran perfectly fine, before it snapped. I had light load, and was on I-80 in NE. Maybe it has something to do with metal fatigue ? I towed it back to CA, and rebuild it.

As far as the piston, it thankfully did not become a problem. I think the head was $750 plus $100 core charge, although I think the heads are going for around $800 now. The turbo was just a cheep non-cummins reman, they took my core, it was like $610 out the door. Thanks for watching!
