On the first load of 2018 one of the valves on my N14 decided to quit on me, this is a brief video containing the details.

The valve stem and base are usually 2 different steels/alloys fused together. That's why they break off at the bottom of the stem.

Interesting, why do they make the valve out of two different metals? I'm guessing its because the more heat-resistant material for the exhaust valves is not suitable for a valve stem?

PFTW1995 Either that or a price issue.

I had 1254000 on my N14, and dropped exhaust valve on cylinder 5. It snapped in the same spot as yours. It ran perfectly fine, before it snapped. I had light load, and was on I-80 in NE. Maybe it has something to do with metal fatigue ? I towed it back to CA, and rebuild it.

My viewing diagnoses is that you have a worn exhaust cam lobe on cylinder # 6 due to overheating. That is the main cause of your troubles.

Impact to the top of the piston causes swelling to the piston crown, sometimes will seize if you reuse it

Hi Philip, I've seen some of you comments and videos, as well as the K100 you entered in the ATHS virtual show this year. Its great to see people from across the pond who love the classics. As far as the piston, it thankfully did not become a problem. But this was not the end of the story, the rest of the story can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zA5IS8VTtH0.html

How much was the head and turbo
@PFTW

I think the head was $750 plus $100 core charge, although I think the heads are going for around $800 now. The turbo was just a cheep non-cummins reman, they took my core, it was like $610 out the door. Thanks for watching!

Is it your ECM causing your injectors not to fire?
