Gun Nut that's crazy u have the same name almost .. become a machinist and u can build anything you could ever imagine .. trust me I have some things for zombie day lol
I'd love to have a Bridgeport, but even an old clapped out one is still beyond a normal budget. Besides, like you two, guns are an expensive hobby. I've been meaning to delve into the 80% game, but at this point it's so trendy that it costs more than buying a serialized lower.
Probably around 3400 - 3600 usd depending on exchange rate . Yes this is a really good deal. It is rare to see a decked out Lagun in the US any more. Lagun used to be made in Spain and was top quality. Most US shops are stuck on acer or other cheap Taiwan knock offs.
That is a real nice Lagun FT 3, vertical ram turret knee mill with a slotting attachment installed. As a machinist that also teaches here in the United States of America, I always tell the students that all CNC did was add speed to manufacturing the accuracy is in the machinist's heart & mind.
Timo said that he thought that it's going to be much more expensive and he is not going to get it for that price but then nobody else wanted the machine so it's ours now :D
That is a VERY fine piece of machinery and your dad will have a blast with that. All I see is heavy as hell and rock solid build so extreme repeat ability.
Had it not been for a couple of years of watching DIY and other similar things on RU-vid learning i would not have been as excited as i am watching that machine. ........ The things you can make with that ... amazing
Wow, that's practically identical to the mill we used to have in work, every knob and lever is in exactly the same place. I think we paid £6000 for ours, it was a very good machine.
Ain't no chincy chineesium gahbage here. Just a good ole smookum choocher from the fah lands of the people who gave stalin nightmares. Once you get ya dirty dick beats what in er and lift up the skirt to take a peek she's gonna chooch right on.
Mikail Elchanovanich Skookum is an actual word in one of the West Coast native languages and it means sweet or strong. The Skookumchuck Rapids ,the term means sweet or strong water.
maybe so but i ain't gonna let an aeroplane nerd tell me what to say. a milling machine can be as elegant as a royal bloody swan if it's well built and well looked after.
I love Timo's new machine. I have a Bridgeport which was made in 1975! Instead of the slotting head mine has this very weird thing called a 'cherrying head'. It was the way they did die sinking to create concave or convex shapes before CNC. As we get lots of sand cast raw components and one off repairs to alloy cases we can't use CNC. I think I might try to move into a different type of work in the future though.
I really love the sense of humor, and the interest your wife (I am assuming she is your wife) takes with the things you do. Most men do not know how much of a blessing it is to have a wife/girlfriend that not only allows you the freedom of complaining about what they like, but participates in her husband/boyfriends passions and hobbies. I have subscribed and look forward to all of your past and future videos.
This was a while back(1970ish) but here is what happened. My dad put in what is called a cursory bid( a bid asumming up front no one will bid at all{a what the "F" bid}). Biding was for a decomissioned Coast Gard Cutter. This was a spit shined, 13ft shallow drafted, complete machine shop on board, meat locker for 50 head of cattle, had enough fuel on to circle the globe 4 times, loads of spare parts for everything, 4 propellers, 20 ton crane, multiple holds, the list goes on. Dad bid 25,000 didn't get the bid but someone bid 35,000$ and they got it (back then this was a millian&1/2$ oridginally when put into gov service). This was a ready made package frieghter business for shallow ports in the Bahammas. My life would have taken a different turn!
Wow! Power feed on X, Y, and Z axis that’s bad ass nice mill! Digital readout 3 axis readout too! Awesome milling machine guys! Would love to own this one!!!
Amazing the money spent by militaries and then scrapped or sold for surplus for fractions of the original cost. Timo is evidently what we call "Old School".
What a cool milling machine... Have a lathe, mill etc too but that thing is beyond my dreams so big and heavy it would take the space of my shop away but is really cool and the shaper part is the big bonus 😎👍congratulations and wish you lots of fun and creativity with it...
The attachment on the back is what we call a "Shaper" You are correct about its function, not an attachment that every machine has. The DRO (Digital Read Out) still has support for parts etc. Nice machine. Enjoy! PS, never try to drill with the Boring feed. It will brake.
I have spent alot of time using a very similar milling machine at my old job. Very similar to the Bridgeport although ours did not have the rear machine or quite so many cranks. Hello to Timo! Nice buy at a very good price!
Looks great! We have the base model of this mill but a Bridgeport. This is the first one I’ve seen with the shaping head on it. Ours is strictly manual. It’d be so nice to have have the readout and feeds on all the axises.
Moi Lauri and Anni! The old milling machine from Army was a steal! Two thumbs up for your Dad! We have similar machine at work and we think it's pretty good! Cats get pranked, ah I don't think so! LOL although I have a cat that eats peas and green beans!
Nice heavy duty machine. Many(myself included) say it is better than a Bridgeport. The price is about average here in the midwest USA. $3000 Euro is about $3500 USD. They are quite common for that price and less used. I will add, the included shaper/slotting head(also called a jumping jack) pushes the purchase into the good deal category in my eyes.
Its a Spanish made mill knee. I own a similar one. It looks nice, the only thing is it looks the taper on the spindle is pretty small, maybe an R8 or Iso30, wich is ok, but most of them sold in Spain were made with a bigger Iso40 taper. Just one recommendation is not to turn the spindle speed handwheel when the motor isn't running, don't do that or you will end up having to dismantle the head to fix it.
Nice mill ! I love my Lagun, very well made and accurate. I can't believe he got a FTV3 with a shaper head for 3k Euros. That would be double that price for that machine in that condition where I live. Awesome deal. Go Timo!
I feed my cat with this kind of peas only occasionally as i don't trust this artificial stuffs very much. Instead i feed it with what i eat; fresh fish and a little pork. Canned fish for cat and also some rice.
I used to move those professionally, for a secondhand dealer. The table makes them front-heavy, and they'll rip right through the pallet they're strapped to if they start to roll over. You're also lucky you have pneumatic tires on the forklift. When you're balancing something like that, you feel every crack or dip in the road very intensely. It's worse if you have solid tires.
you sure got a great deal. in 2004 I was in Finland visiting family, for 2 months. and I went to same kind of auction, but everything was going for such high price I couldn't be leave it,, was not worth bidding, as shipping back to Canada would really put it out of the worth
3500 us is a good price. It will need things fixed. I have used several Lagun's here in the US, new and used, but they were the cheaper models. That one looks decent. Some of the problems were, spindle belt pulley bearings wear out fast, spindle high/low lever is cheap made and will not stay in place ( make new one from tool steel ), table feed drive keep breaking, manual table handles need extension so you don't break your between handle and gearbox, table and cross slide gibbs wear fast, so keep them clean, oiled, and adjusted. Knee gibbs will need adjusting also. Clean, oil, adjust everything and it will cut better and last longer.
My god that mill is beautiful Don't ever crack the 4 bolts on the front to change angles just make a setup on the table or you will never stop traming it in
Master O' None "With a load like that"? What's that supposed to mean? That is a 4.5 tone forklift (5 ton, 10k lbs) and the milling machine only weights about 1.5 tonnes. So a safety factor of 3x. And it's not an obstructing load, (The majority of the machine is in front of the mast.) nor is he traveling downhill, so no need to move with a trailing load. The whole reason there are safety regulations are for idiots that don't have common sense. It's sad we live in a world where he should have gone and got a road going permit and flag men and pilot cars, and all that bull shit. People should have more common sense.
Not an obstructing load... My Fat Aunt Anny. I have met many operators of all types of machinery who believed their image skills and common sense trumped well thought out demonstrable best practice. They are indeed the reason we are belaboured by ever increasing regulation. Someone needs to protect them from their own arrogance.
