I have had many people ask me about my daily routine with my ratties, so this video shows exactly what I do every day! It really isn't a lot, but it is only the start of the hours of play time I spend with them. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for asking! I should have said what time it was! It was actually around 4:30 pm. I don't have a time that I do this everyday, but it is normally before I go to bed. I just make sure it happens at least once a day, and whenever I have the time I will do it.

And about the food, you're so right!! I always felt so bad because they didn't have food and I found out they were putting it in their litter box and in their hammocks and such! My parents would always tell me I was starving them until I showed them their stashes!

Haha, my girls did exactly the same thing! Always stashing food and then desperately jumping up and down on the side of the cage because they were JUST STARVING! (Yeah, right!) My girls also responded to their names, not really sure how I taught them that, it feels like they just know. They are so smart! :)

mine do this too!! it is really frustrating. I think I am going to try and cut the fleece into strips and put that in the cage, so they can crawl through it and have better ventilation. plus, if they chew it, it is not such a big deal :p

It affects every rat differently, sadly my girls caught it off of a friend bringing home a new baby from a pet store who had it. Raven get's bouts of respiratory issues and I thought I was going to lose her to it as it took me a while until when I first realized something was wrong, (watch out for them making sounds for no reason, I thought she was just being vocal). Some antibiotics and she picks up within days. Roxette however hasn't shown any of the signs at all! Both happy rats :) Congrats!

About how high can your rats jump? I'm about to get 2 rats (new owner) and I want them to have a nice out time, but I have a small apartment and not much space to set up a whole area like you have. I figured I could find a pet play pen to fence in the areas they sholdn't get to (a lot easier to do than fencing in to where they CAN get into :P), but I don't know if they'll just jump it later. Thanks!

is it necessary to litter train pet rats? I got mine about 2 months ago and I don't know whether it is necessary or not and whether it is to late to train them! I don't put liners in my cage (mainly because of the style of the cage, I can't) but a lot of people on the internet and in videos do.

How did u get that gate in? :O Do u ever just leave the cage open since u have a gate for urself?? I think ill put a 10" gate in my room -:D Thats a nice gate. I like that gate

it is not necessary, but trust me, it keeps the cage a lot more clean, and easier for spot cleaning because most of the mess it usually around the litter pan :p

do you have any ideas or tips about keeping fleece or towel linings intact? my rats chew holes in their fleece everywhere, and it is starting to look like swiss cheese :p I really like the idea of fleece because it is less messy than bedding and it makes it easy to spot clean, however it worries me when they get under the fleece and use the bathroom, then breathe in the fumes in all day.

Hi! So i was wondering if your room smells bad because of the rats. I had fleece in my cage and I think the reason for the smell was because it was holding in rat odours. So do the towels in your cage hold in rat doors and cause your room to stink up? Thanks!

How do you get them to stop chewing everything? Mine just chew up their beds ALL THE TIME! I have to eplace them almost every week. I have tried getting chew toys for them but they just prefer to eat up their beds. I even tried to change their food more to harder solids for them to nibble on but nothing I do seems to work, do you have any advice? Thanks :)

Your rats have an absolute paradise cage! I have two little fancy rats who are a month old that currently live in a modified guinea pig cage. I wish we could afford something better at the time. Anyway, I'm wondering, is it normal for it to seem like they're sleeping so much instead of playing? I got them just yesterday, and I haven't tried to pick them up except for when I put them in the cage. Another question is, what should I do to begin making friends with my first rats??

I'm just curious because I'm getting two new rats soon and I have to choose. But, personally, which do you find cuter? Top eared rats or dumbo rats? Just curious for an opinion on what you prefer. I'm asking a lot of people because honestly I can't decide. And sadly I can't really choose based on personality because the pet store I'm getting them from wont let you handle the pets unless you buy them :P I don't like it but I've got no where else to find rats at so...oh well ^_^

I have 2 male rats there my first pet rats. I know they cant get rid of there respitory problems. It just seems that after there first year there always sick or only well for a month. Its mostly the one white rat Taramis. The vet gives me enough medicine for around a month they do breathing treatments sometimes. I wipe down cage and change fleece weekly on schedule. They drink bottled water and eat oxbow and some fresh veggies fruit. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

do your rats chew on their hammocks? because my rat chews all of his hammocks he is the most unusual rat i have owned instead of hammocks he likes to sleep on the bottom half of his cage. Do males chew a lot more then females? just curious

You should give your animals fresh water each day. Also give them fresh food - they could have urinated on the old stuff when it was stashed. Vegetables should also only be left a day as they start going off and can make your ratties ill. They are pulling up the fleece because you don't seem to have given them any bedding! Try a cut up fleece or shredded paper to give them something to snuggle. Sweet rats though :)

Also a mixed rat food isn't appropriate. Rats pick and choose what to eat and so some rats may not be getting enough nutrients. I also hope that it isn't Cheerios in the mix as these should be a treat only. High calorie diets make rats more prone to tumours. A lab block or pellets which are all the same and designed for rats are what you need, wish fresh veggies or fruit each day also.

Yo I totally love your rat cage! Where did u get it? Did u build it? I'm trying to make my rats's cage more exciting 4 them, any suggestions? It's a rat manor type cage, if u r wondering :). I'm glad to see your girls taking out the food as soon as you fill it. When I fill my girls' food bowl, all 3 of them run up, shove all the food they can into their mouth, and go bury it under the shavings.

I have had just about enough with my rats biting me this past month. Any idea why they're doing this? I've ruled out any good smells on my hands they may be mistaking for food. Are my rats just super territorial? I have boys by the way and it's mainly been two that have been biting. They ARE drawing blood. I really don't understand it, they're usually the sweetest things..

There not expensive at all to keep, if you're clever. The only expensive is the cage. A cage costs about $100. Their food is cheap and you can get a massive bag of nuggets which last ages allthough you want to get them a veriety of food so fruit and veg for treats or specially made treats (They're very unhealty still though). The toys and hammocks cost nothing if you make them your selves and if you decide to buy them they are expensive. Litter and bedding is also very cheap so dont worry:)

I really wanted to get a rattie or two, but my mom wanted because of their smell, so instead she got me mice, and my neighbor gave me her gerbil because she couldn't take care of her anymore, anyway, do you know how to make them smell less? I might ask my mom after my mice die and I don't replace them or if I move out, but could you help me?

I have 2 boys a Hoded rat and a albino red eyed rat. My albino is still a toddler/kid he runs all around the cage and my hooded rat is just a bit older and he like to sleep and play. But I try to litter train them but the cage is to small to put one in. I'm planning on getting them a bigger cage.

I have two questions for you -> Have you ever had bumblefoot in a rat? I have a CN and four male rats, but my big boy (who is I am assuming 900g+) has mild bumblefoot in his two hind legs. Nothing serious but I don't want it there, for sure!! And my second question -- How do you deal with ants in your cage? Especially since its summer time-I've NEVER had ants till now!! I got rid of most of them using vaseline but I still have a few! They come back after I clean

I have 6 girls, whom I love very much. They get "outside cage time" for 2-3 hours a night. But they always seem disappointed when they have to go back. Am I not giving them enough playtime? Or are they just spoiled like every other animal in this house?

I have two sister rats, one looks like Delphi with a thinner stripe, one albino, and try stash EVERYTHING!!! They rarely ever eat what comes to them unless its a treat at free range time!! They stash soooo much it's really annoying they stash underneath their bedding so I can't see and whenever I have food they don't like they push it out the side of the cage!!! It's so annoying. Any ideas?!?!

there normal cheerios so they dont have much sugar in them not like it would realy matter there is sugar in rat treats from petshops so they can handle small amounts.

They are quite expensive :/ when they get older they can get ?respratory?problems or tumors, so you might save some money to pay your vet. They need to be in a BIG cage so that can be expensive too. You can give them all kinds off toys so that's up to you how much you want to pay. My rats have a lot of toys and they don't play with them but when I give them a roll of toilet paper they go nuts :p I can't tell you how much exactly because I'm from Belgium so..

**Please answer** Ok so I'm going away for three weeks in two days, my rats are nearly four months old, and they are attached to me, but I was just wondering if they will remember me when I get back? I'm going to summer camp so there is no way for me to take them with me and they will be being taken care of by my mom. So I guess I was just wondering if they will remember me when I get back in three weeks, I would be heartbroken if they didn't.

Hello Rattielover713, I have two rats, and I have had them for 1 1/2 years now - no problems. But just recently my family learned Pika (one of my rats) has an upper respiratory disease, she is inhaling and exhaling quite loudly. My question is, Is there any over the counter medicine that can treat this? Because without treatment this can lead to her dying at a young age..and I don't want that :( I have checked with all my nearby vets, but I was hoping you would tell me something to. ~Lyra Hunt

Candice Lees Hi Candice, most rats live up to about 2 to 3 years. I am not 100% sure, but I think this girl's rats all lived up to 2 years or there abouts. If you are planning on getting girl rats, I highly recommend that you have them spayed though, as this will help prevent most tumors (this causes many girl rats to die sooner than they should unfortunately). All my girls have been spayed when they were 6 months old. My 2 oldest rats are now 2 years old, and are still going strong. None of my little rats have ever had any tumors. So I definitely recommend it. If you are interested in seeing my rats, feel free to have a look :-)

Im probrably late, but try giving them stuff there meant to chew on. like toilet paper roles maybe? so they'll chew on that instead.
