The moment you mentioned vaseline, I knew you cracked it. I figured it out too when my daughter was a baby. I remember going to the GP for follow-up because the steroids were not working and telling him that vaseline did the trick. He looked at me like I was crazy and said: "Well, it will definitely lock the moisture in...". Like yourself, I started to use my own intuition and developed my own routine. Not bathing often is also very key. You smashed it Pat!!! When a mother's instinct kicks in, she will find a way. 🙌🏽 Well done!

I'm also super against steroids because I used them all through my childhood, stopped in my early twenties and had the WORST withdrawal. I looked like a giant scab for so long. My daughter has eczema and I just refused to use them because of the trauma, hers eventually cleared too. I feel you deep on this one!

Unfortunately eczema never really goes away but the flare ups happen fewer times a year as you get older. I had it bad as a child. As a teen it would flare up on my face and neck especially after eating wheat products. As an adult they appear after working out and not removing my clothes or washing my skin immediately. It was such a good decision to not use the cortisone cream because it thins the dermis over time. Glad Nova’s feeling better

Hello. My partner, a 34 year old man has been going through this for the last four years. I know from his experience how debilitating TSW is so I can’t even imagine watching your baby go through it. It’s wild that every medical professional denies it exists and continues to prescribe steroids. We did our own research and discovered it too. As an adult who suffered from eczema flare ups, this mini series makes me so emotional. I didn’t have it nearly as bad, but even the small patches make you feel so hopeless at times. I also DO NOT SUPPORT steroid use. Once I got down to the allergies that caused my flare ups, I was able to be completely eczema free at 20 years old. Love ya Patricia! So happy that Nova is better❤

TSW is absolutely no joke. I'm so glad it's getting more media attention. I went through it unknowingly for almost 10 years, and actively quit steroids 2 years ago. I'm still going through withdrawl. It's severely affected my life. Friendships, relationships, jobs, confidence, anxiety, everything. Writting this at 32yrs who went through crazy period of eczema in the wholeeeeeeeee of my primary school. We only had to wait for it to go away naturally. Now my skin is perfecccccccccccct. As grown woman who had severe eczema as a small child, I can tell you it gets better. However, it is linked to other autoimmune issues like asthma (which I have). My eczema stopped in my teens and I’m thankful my mom had stopped the steroid creams as well. I also experienced zero flare ups on summer holidays to Jamaica as a child. Didn’t even have a single asthma attack. I think a lot of this is due to environmental factors.

That’s the pharmaceutical industry for ya! Make you dependent on their counterproductive products to make money! I’m in my late 30s now & was given the strongest steroid cream @ the time as a child. My eczema stopped as soon as I stopped using it, limited nuts, shellfish & just grew out of it in my teens. Well done for raising awareness! Xx❤

Patricia I’m struggling to finish watching this video because I know exactly how you felt as I’m going through it right now. My son who just turned a year last month has been suffering from extreme severe eczema since he was few weeks old. The way you describe everything, your daughter and seeing her pictures it’s as if it’s my son your talking about. the steroids, the scratching, bloody sheets, oozing skin, red patches covering all his body, sleepless nights, the agony on his face day in day out, and with all that nothing we did helped him really. But we are thankful for 2 weeks or so he doesn’t have the infection or the oozing on his skin anymore even though he still has some flare ups ( but at least it’s not infected). He is now using a allergy free milk since few weeks now but we are not sure if this is the reason of his skin looking better or is it just again the steroids creams. For the first time, for two weeks straight he is not waking up every 30 minutes to scratch his back with the bed but instead he is now waking up from a bad cough and a congested nose and trouble breathing due to virus infection in the lungs that the doctors aren’t so clear about what the cause is ( he’s had this infection 3 times now and was hospitalized 3 times now due to it and the eczema flares). It’s an endless cycle, one little flu or something that he’s body is fighting signals stress in his little body that in turn causes eczema flare ups. Poor little guy has gone through a lot. So yeah seeing you daughter’s pictures broke me down because few weeks ago that’s how my sweet baby boy looked like and my husband I felt helpless. I’m relieved and glad that your daughter’s skin is now cleared up and I hope it continues to do so. Seeing this gives me hope for my little boy who by the way coincidentally is also a mixed race like your daughter and I also called him the first time “crusty” due to his dry skin but as I realized he was suffering from eczema and because nickname do stick I stop right away calling him that and demanding that no one calls him that. Anyway, thank you for this video as it gives hope to all the parents out there that have children who are suffering from this unbearable skin condition. you are telling my story. all my baby pictures are me with my hands tied like a boxer because I would scratch through my skin til I bleed. I am in my 50s and still have to manage my breakouts which are triggered with season changes. There is light at the end of the tunnel - my heart broke for you as Nova's Mama Bear and Nova suffering through because I know, I know, I know.

As a Caribbean woman, I still bathe with Dettol. It was part of my shower routine as a child. My mom would dilute it with water. So after I bathe, I put a tiny drop in a cup and add water and throw it over my skin.

Watching this video made me tear up. I’m glad she’s better and you all have a routine that keeps her skin flourishing. My son had mild eczema when he was a baby and dove unscented soap and plain crisco cleared his skin up.

Oh Patricia, they are so gorgeous! Now, I don't have children but I truly understand what you went through. Leading up to my Mommie's passing from Cancer and after; my health started to go crazy. Then her death shattered my world. The stress of it all made me develop a couple of health issues and severe plaque eczema. It was awful to a woman in my fifties and my skin becoming a weepy mess; when I've always had beautiful skin. Yes Patricia, stress can wreak havoc on the body. It freaked me out what I went through. I too like you refuse steroids! Doctors did not help at all. So, through trial and error I learned what I shouldn't eat and what not to put on my skin. Truly, I prayed! I would be in the store just looking at products and praying for the Holy Spirit to tell my what to buy; what not to eat. Finally, through listening to my inner voice/Spirit; I found a moisturizer that works for me. ❤I'm so glad that you were able to able to get her eczema under control.🥰

My daughter got hers at 3 we’re still working on it but I’ve learned so far a ton of interesting things about the human body. 70-80% of the immune system lives in the gut so when that compromised and the bad bacteria rages over the good the whole house (body) is in panic mode. Trying to push the toxins through the skin to get rid of it. The lymphatic stem becomes slower and is not found it’s job at optimal level. When we head the gut and help drain the lymphatic system the Body can calm down. If that makes sense. I’m so glad you figured out what works for Nova!!💖

This is soooo good that you are shairng this! I'm 28 this year and have had Eczema since I was 4/5.... and I absolutely HATE and Against Steroids!! It's literally an addiction for the Skin. Thank you SO much for using your platform to raise awareness of this Patricia. I am currently coming out of the other end of this as an adult. I cannot imagine how it would be for such a young child. I am a part of a support group for the condition on Facebook, where thousands of parents share stories like this. (As well as adults suffering). When will the madness end. It is hell on earth and totally preventable. My skin flared after my covid vaccination, and from then I was put on the steroid merry go round for 1 year, until I said enough was enough. Dermatologists looked me in the eyes and said I could apply this as much as I want and it would be totally okay. After I stopped using the creams; my body literally shut down and I was the sickest I’ve been and in the most pain in my entire life. Sending love to you and your daughter! as someone who went through topical steroid withdrawal (TSW) as an adult, thank you for this video! it hurt to put on clothes, shower, all the daily things and would constantly be shivering and itchy.

I’m a 40+ adult. I had eczema as a kid. It never fully went away but got better when I was a teen. The problem is that it came back & started developing into psoriasis when I was in my 30s. It’s AWFUL now. So for some it is something that may go away but for others this is a lifelong struggle.

Vaseline worked for me, I’m retired Air Force and the military doctor recommended the vaseline. Stress caused my eczema to flair up. Praying for continued healing 🙏🏾

OMG Patricia, your story is literally my life. I've had 2 babies with extreme eczema. Your first video brought me to tears cause I was so sick of seeing my baby dealing with eczema. My older boy is 6 now and has fully outgrown it but my 18month old girl is still in trenches of eczema. We've been through hell with eczema hepeticus. It was so bad I could barely recognize my babies. We're currently on a treatment plan for my little girl and she's only started sleeping through the night for the last month or so. We're moisturising with ointments around the clock and she sleeps in an anti-scratch sleepsuit which keeps her hands tucked away so she can't itch. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it stays away. So glad Nova is doing okay. xx

I’m glad your daughter is doing well. I first got it in college. It was on my eyelids across my chest and on my feet. It finally went away. I hadn’t had a flair up for decades then I had a hysterectomy in January and it happened again in the same places. I can understand how annoying and painful it is for an adult with what I went through. I can’t even imagine how bad it was for Nova. I’m so glad you figured out what was triggering her and what is helping.

Growing up in Jamaica getting a bathe with dettol was so common. Like idk why we did it but ever so often you bathe in dettol. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must have been watching her going thru this. So happy to hear she is doing better

Talk about serendipity! Definitely needed to hear that I'm not alone with this. As someone with hypersensitive skin & who has been suffering from eczema since I was 21(I'm in my late 30s now), I completely agree that steroid creams are the effing devil. I've had to argue my case with so many GPs about that. Anyone struggling out there with eczema ESPECIALLY those living in London 1. trust your instincts. 2.eliminate dairy and soy products ( they cause hormonal imbalances) 3.use a water softener- London water is a different type of crazy! I know nobody loves unsolicited advice 😬, but like Patricia said, the hardcore meds usually don't do much. It's the small instinctive & intuitive changes that will change your skin PS if anyone's apprehensive about Vaseline, try purified petroleum jelly. I buy it in bulk when I'm in Portugal, for some reason it's widely available in local stores there 👌

As someone who goes to Morocco frequently, I can attest that the Moroccan water slaps! Have you tried using a water filer for your tap. London (and the wider area) has hard water with minerals. I use Hello Klean. Major game changer.

Many old ladies I take care of in the nursing home with the best skin I have ever seen. Vaseline at night!! Wash face in the morning with gentle soap and wash at night. Then Vaseline, couldn't believe it. But many of these women still do it into their 90's. They have some of the best skin I have ever seen in elderly women.

My little cousin had a horrible reaction to baby sunscreen. I was 9 or 10, and I would hear family say she might die. It was terrifying. I remember her losing her skin pigment and her hairline while she was so little. She's in her mid-twenties now and she's doing so well! She is healthy and thriving. But damn... I'll never forget what she went through and she hasn't either. She wrote a beautiful poem about it. 💜

My Sister suffered as a baby, in the morning, her cot was just filled with skin. My Mum took her to the West Indies(Grenada) and she had a daily sea bath. Organic food,sea and sun did wonders for her skin. It took time, but her skin cleared up, praise the lord. Even as a child,to see my little sister crying with pain was heartbreaking, I can understand how you felt. I'm delighted to see that Nova's skin has cleared up. You did an excellent job👏

I had a similar eczema experience with my daughter. I eventually stopped every steroid and didn't even use the prescribed 2% one. I made sure she was not constipated and removed possible allergens (cow milk, eggs, wheat), then I let her skin purge it all out. While that happened, I used colloidal oatmeal to calm the itch or would give her oatmeal baths. Then hypoallergenic ceramide lotions to build her skin barrier after every bath, followed by a blend of olive oil and vitamin E oil to soothe, repair and seal that moisture. I also gave her probiotics. She was back to normal in less than 2-3 weeks. After that experience, I dread steroids like the plague. Thanks for sharing. This is a real problem and mothers need to he aware.

The diligence and care you have for your children Patricia is to be commended! I 100% agree with the bleach baths. I used to deal with eczema as an infant and would have flareups throughout my life. When I was swimming competitively as a teenager on my swim team my skin was the clearest it's ever been in life. It seems so strange because I mean--its bleach--but I remember it working very well for my skin.

Grace came and took over the video, no questions asked ❤ honestly eczema is such a big issue that is so easily swept away without actually diagnosing it and just giving a steroid cream to 'solve' all issues.. I am so happy you are coming back with an update!

I nearly lost my mind throughout most of 2022 with my youngest daughter. She would be red, itchy and crying most of the time. The doctor's visits didn't really help much to be honest because the eczema kept flaring up. And the consultations were not cheap. Discovered Epimax and dropped the steroid creams. She's been eczema free for about two months now. Thank you for sharing, I don't feel like I'm alone anymore.

This month is the third anniversary of my TSW and I had the same reaction you describe, now my skin is clear but I'm gluten-free and I don't mind if it means that I don't have to be dependent on steroids anymore. I was let down by my doctors, but funny enough I found the solution on Reddit CRAZY I know there's a whole community of people with similar experiences and I learnt a great deal from them

I learnt about my own babyhood/childhood eczema journey. I spent a lot of time hospitalized in the late 60's & 70's. I've learnt things I could do now to help. Thank you. She’s still here, and we’re still suffering from almost full body eczema, along with ptsd. It’s traumatizing, and people that haven’t suffered through it, don’t realize . I come from East Africa, specifically Uganda. Eczemas were prevented by priming the skin with a cocktail of herbs called 'ekyogero' which literally translates to 'priming in the right quantity'. Kyogero was usually the gift new parents received from grandparents and aunties. The leaves were boiled to form a green cocktail in leaves. From birth to about 2-3 years a baby was bathed and massaged in a lukewarm kyogero, a few drops orally on tongue to drink. This was a gem for most babies having skin issues. Bath with soap was minimal like once in a while. It may be genetics but our traditions we have discarded are still worth to carry on. Glad you found a way out.

Good OLD DETOIL and I still use it regularly especially during the spring and summer because I have eczema and allergies.
