Your story Cindy is so like mine. Watchtower hijacked my mind in 1988 aged 27, I was intoxicated with the thought of seeing my dead mother again. I dissociated in 2018 aged 57 over child abuse cover ups and the way elders treat women in judicial commities. Nicole my beautiful pimi jw wife can't drive so I give her lifts to all the meetings and field service groups, Nicole and I still have a happy and loving marriage and for that I'm truly grateful, we avoid the subject of religion like the plague, I'm hoping the governing body will wake her up. soo many women get sucked into the org myself included. I noticed soo many women with husbands who weren't part of the Borg. These husbands were funding their lifestyle in the org so they could live life for the Borg. There was no way that their lives would be the way it is if their husbands were in because you would be struggling with the simple life. There's a reason why the Borg says don't leave your unbelieving mate because they fund the congregation financially but also they may get another recruit. The situation gets flipped if the wife is the one who commits a sin and then it's ok to divorce to keep clean. I admire that you are still with your wife given that your at complete different beliefs that's love.
Thank you for sharing your story, Cindy! It really touched me on so many levels. I'm so glad you got out and are enjoying a good relationship with your children. Even though they're often hard to hear and can bring up painful memories, I appreciate everyone for contributing to the collective healing process.

Your decision was fast surprisingly. I told my nephew about that religion, provided a list of where they removed and added to the Bible, and gave her books, he wouldn't listen

Wow Cindy, what an incredible articulate story you told and Bravo!!. I understand how you felt being in the organization, the feeling of belonging to a loving group of people. But then I, like you, found out about the sexual abuse allegations and cover ups as well as other things like the JW doctrines not following the bible, misinterpretations, abuse of power and punishmet inflicted by elders on congregation members, etc. The publication of stories like yours were a big help to me as I was escaping the JW's. I agree with you Cindy and encourage anyone and everyone to speak up to help others who are thinking of or have escaped the JW's.

Was only there a few years.any age or time you get out of there is good.even the smartest person cab get trapped.this is why we are thankful for all the help we get .i learned abiut the Australian Royal Commission frim a video and got the courage to get out.
I wish these interviews had more questions with the people you interview. Like,with Cydni, what happened to her dad and brother… what did they think when she became a witness? Did she end all ties with her dad? did her mom die?did she bring or talk about the “ truth” to her kids while growing up? Did any of her friends try to talk to her as to why she left?
I understand all your questions. I’m sorry that there was only so much time for the interview. I did tell on my dad and he went to prison. At 16, I found out that my mom was a paranoid schizophrenic. I lived with an aunt and uncle for a couple years while they divorced. There was a lot going on I had to condense, sorry.
This is kinda the same situation that I'm in as her daughter. I'm currently living with my in-laws who are JWs. I'm a lifelong Christian (Methodist), and when I came to live with them due to me moving to another country to be with my husband, I started doing research about the JWs and was horrified. I love my in-laws and want to protect and save them, but I'm scared that they will turn my husband and I away. I showed my husband the truth, and he now hates the watchtower, but luckily he already hadn't been going to meetings for months, so nobody has connected him not going to me. He's just told people he's not going now because he wants to stay home with me and I don't speak the language.

It is good that you were blessed with a daughter who spoke the truth to you and you listened. I hope you don't equate JWs with the true God. After reading the bible so many times, I hope you will read a non NWT bible and learn the real truth of Jesus Christ and have the Hope you didn't have with the JWs.
Thank you for sharing your story Cindy. There is one thing I am curious about- while your children were growing up did you try to raise them as JW children taking them to meetings, how did deal with their birthdays and Christmas times? Did your husband not allow you to even try to indoctrinate them?
I was really conflicted in teaching them, actually. I think on some level I knew it wasn’t the truth, but I did teach them about the Bible and took them to meetings.
My husband and I divorced when the kids were 9 and 3. I did kind of try to raise them as Witnesses, but they never “bought it”. Now I am so glad they didn’t!!!
I did tell on my dad and he went to jail, prison, but only for six months. He probably pled no contest to one count of “fondling”. What is more, he never apologized or admitted that he was wrong. Many years later he had his record expunged. Last year he died.
