Here is my review of the Opium coat, I love it! You can find the pattern here shop.deer-and-doe.fr/en/sewin... You can find the fabric here www.amazon.co.uk/Original-Hea... but it’s £12.99 not £10, still a bargain though
I love it too Mel! I've cut out the Ernest coat from republic de chiffon and not got any further ( the interfacing) and some ginger jeans so your new Year videos are very interesting to me. Love those welt pockets! I'm a bit unsure about the ones on my coat as the instructions are very basic and it's a long time since I did a welt pocket.... I applaude you!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😊😘
Interfacing really is a necessary evil 🤣 it drives me mad but definitely worth it. I’m going to be doing more on the jeans this weekend, I finally got a new phone so hopefully filming will be so much easier, you could check out the deer and Doe blog post for welt pockets, these were actually my first welts so the instructions must have been good! ☺️💕
This hits all my design needs for a swing coat - and from Donegal tweed. I've used their fabric before and love it. You gave a brilliant review. It's a lovely make. I really enjoy your approach and range of sewing projectsThanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks Sonia, it’s certainly a beaut ☺️ I’ve just tested and yes the collar can be worn up, I’d say to use heavier interfacing, I used quite a heavy one and it stands up fine xx
Just found your channel, so esthetically pleasing, am interested to know how you keep changing your back drops, they are all really nice. Also are your vintage machines functional or just for decoration, May be you should do a video on your machines. And perhaps a sewing room tour.😍♥️♥️
Hi thanks so much for tuning in ☺️ the backdrops are photography backdrops as it’s where I take my photos too, the vintage machines are functional but only get used rarely, I’m definitely due a sewing room tour soon as my room has been changed about a bit since the last one 💕
Hi Mel, and greetings from Norway! I do hope you'll get to read my comment even if it is a long time since the video was posted! I am building up my confidence to have a go at a jacket/coat for myself (as I cannot find anything I like in the shops) and I am now wavering between this Deer and Doe Opium and the Wicksten Haori. Would love to have your advice as to which would be the easiest for a novice sewer! Best wishes, Lisbeth
LaToya Keeling hi LaToya ☺️ yes I used the steamer again with it being wool, I wont wash the coat as wouldn’t want to risk spoiling the lovely fabric xx
Oh, I absolutely LOVE this coat! Would this work well with a wool herringbone? Ive got like 5yds and couldn't think of what coat I wanted to make, but this would be perfect! Can't get the Donegal tweed here in the states (at least from Amazon) Great make Mel😊👍❤
I just looked online at Amazon and if it's the exact fabric that you used for your coat, the link that I clicked on shows that the fabric is currently unavailable. I am going to look for a light to medium weight wook/tweed blend to get that flowy effect.
Elaine Marie Laswell hi Elaine, I’ve just tried the link in the video notes and it’s showing as available, not sure if it shows differently if your outside of the UK?
Beautiful coat. I've been looking at this pattern and love those welt pockets. But, and there is a big but for me, I am a quite large lady of a certain age and, though I love the coat, I don't think it would look nice on me, even with the belted version I would look like a sack of potatoes tied in the middle!! I need a more fitted style which the powers that be would say aren't correct for my figure but I know they do work on me. I love it on you! I could, I suppose, buy the pattern and make those pockets on another coat. Or would that be infringing their copyright? That Donegal tweed was such a bargain but, sadly, it is not available at the moment.
@@HandmadeByDitsyTulip That looks a fabulous coat. Thanks for giving me the link, I will buy the pattern when my bank balance recovers! It looks so cosy though I would do the coat without the belt.
