How to stop a dog from pulling on the lead.
A dog pulling on the lead is no fun - and you probably don’t want to go for a walk. So the dog gets less exercise, which can also create more difficulties and frustrations in other areas.

It's not your dog.
IT’S YOU...
Sorry but, if you pull on the lead or have a tight lead all the time, that is pretty much giving the dog permission to keep pulling. And maybe even injuring themselves.
So here’s a few steps.
1. Keep the leash loose. (The J Curve)
2. If the leash tightens (or your dog starts to pull)... STOP.
3. Gently apply some upward pressure.
Some Trainers will encourage you to use a slight Pop or Tug (a negative or slight discomfort, an ‘Attention getter’
Guide your dog into position and then…
LOOSEN THE LEAD.
4.Keep applying slight corrections if the dog loses focus and wanders… Once you are on track.
5. Continue the walk.
You can also have a command that the dog may recognise as a 'return to correct Heal'
This method is also good to assist in getting the dog to sit.
It’s about both of you being comfortable and enjoying the walk.
Pretty soon just a verbal or slight tug should solve the problem.
You can use a ‘check Chain’ if you know how to use it.
You may need to firm up the collar.
I would avoid leads that stretch… In my opinion, they encourage pulling.
The issue is we often forget these basics and the key to good manners is ‘Be Persistent and Be Consistency.
Remote training collars.
These can be a big help with this sort of training and indeed off-lead recall. Sometimes the dog is on the lead because they just won’t come back when called.
