After almost 3 years of waiting and little from me in the way of updates, I'm happy to announce that I'm very close to taking delivery of my Eastward 2400.
This video chronicles my boat's progress so far; the layout I'm going with; engine choices; and, perhaps most importantly for those of you interested, what I'm paying.
Hope you enjoy.

After watching your channel for a while now I know you know boats and fishing. I go to boat shows all the time and I see what I like and don’t like on all kinds of boats. You are a lucky man to be able to spec out a boat how you want it. Do what YOU want, make no excuses and enjoy the boat. The only bad thing is it will be a long winter waiting for it. Good luck and enjoy and take any criticism with a grain of salt.

John I agree 100% on your choice of power the 225's have a great reputation on performance and MPG. I can't believe the cost of 225's are now more than what 300 Suzuki's were in 2019.

The more I see of Eastward the more I like. I'm excited there is a 24' cat that is designed as a true fishing boat and reasonable priced. I have an old 16' Twin Vee and love the way it handles in South Jersey. I also have a 23' monohaul that I love but I cant imagine how much better the Eastward will ride. I think the 2400 Eastward will be my next boat. Looking forward to seeing more of yours

Great choice on the Mercury v6s , my only thing with eastward is the cheap plastic hatches they use. I hope they make a hatch mold and get away from the Amazon plastic hatches that leek and break .

John: Congratulations on your custom built Seaward. I hope you will tolerate questions: 1. Out of pure curiosity, why did you elect a canvas versus hard t top? 2. Do you plan to keep this boat on the trailer or will you be docking as you currently do with the SeaVee? 3. You chose Mercury's. Why? I just think it is great that you have laid out your boat exactly as you want it. Appears to maximize fishing room and that boat has a lot of room. Truly excited for you! Hope you have a great Blackfish Season! Ken
@jiggingjerks
@jiggingjerks 11 месяцев назад
Hey Ken!!!! It’s significantly cheaper to go with a soft top, and since I am not standing up there, I don’t see the reason for a hard top. Also, much lighter. My Sea Vee has a soft top and honestly did not feel any different than other boats I had with a hard top The boat will be docked. Mercury was all about local service. The other option was Suzuki, and there is no service support near me.

I would use one livewell as the bleed bucket and the other to ice the fish. Just run the pump and all the blood goes overboard. Much easier than the 5 gallon bucket. I will keep the rest of my thoughts on the boat to myself.

I have watched this video three times and went back to watch the Eastward Factory video. No doubt that the 2400 will be an awesome fishing machine. What initially peaked your interest in the brand? Also, during your tour of the factory what made you feel so satisfied that an Eastward would be your future boat? You have been on a lot of really nice boats so I know this brand is special. Thanks again.
@jiggingjerks
@jiggingjerks 11 месяцев назад
I had read about the brand on the hull truth including a couple of owner testimonials and watched the boattest.com video. I’m all about fishing so didn’t really care about fit and finish and loved the price point. Meeting Dave and getting the factory tour sealed it for me.

Seakeeper 1 and Seakeeper ride. What I gathered is a Seakeeper cannot really be installed on a cat. 1/2 the reason to buy a cat is ride stability. I would think a mono with a Seakeeper 1 ($20K) would negate that. Curious your thoughts?
@jiggingjerks
@jiggingjerks 11 месяцев назад
I think the seakeeper advantage is at rest. It does not improve the ride on a mono but makes drifting very plasant

Nice boat. Great video….. I ran the numbers on the chartering and yea it’s a tough business. A lot of people just think of the revenue side and don’t realize the constant costs always there. If You factor in weather and the fact that you are no longer getting to use your boat to fish the prime time because you are taking customers. It just doesn’t seem worth it. I watched your video on the cost layout. Good information. You will enjoy fishing when you want to and what you want to.

Have you decided how to mount the trolling motor? I have seen a few cats that mount them across the beam of the boat, rather than parallel to gunnels. Seems like a good way to save fishing space.

Outboard? If you had all qualified techs around you- Yamaha, Suzuki, Mercury, Evenrude, etc… What make would you get?

Probably Yamaha. Merc is my best service option in my area.
@stephenleone2375
@stephenleone2375 11 месяцев назад
So, I assume that you had your pick of any brand of outboard to hang on the back of this boat.... what made you go with the Mercury engines over all of the other manufacturers? Seeing that you've experienced the horror of having a fuel tank leak on your current boat, what type of fuel tank do they install on this boat (material wise) and are they easily replaceable?
@jiggingjerks
@jiggingjerks 11 месяцев назад
Easily replaceable, aluminum and my current boatyard is Merc certified and awesome to deal with. Suzuki was my other choice and service support is non existent in my area

Wow! Very intriguing boat. And no need to apologize for it's cost--Have you priced out a regular mono hull noncustom boat in that class? Quarter million easy! After considering your build and cost, plus the economics of that hull... what I really wanna know is, IS IT GONNA DRIFT MY WAY? But seriously, how does it drift?

you never mentioned why you wanted to get rid of the SeaVee? you sure can buy a lot of fuel for 200k. as I've always said that SeaVee in my book is bad to the bone. I have friends that have a 27 footer and it is unbelievably nice. I remember when you took delivery of that boat. I would have rather have heard all about why you made this decision. now remember I'm in Florida 28 year full-time 365 charter boat. the reason I watch is because I have a best buddy who lives in Islip Long Island. who's an outboard mechanic. so he got me a little interested in what y'all do up there. the funny thing is he never heard of Tred Barta, have you? I had to send him Tred Barta's book. not that I was a fan of Tred, I always thought he was kind of a stereotypical arrogant New Yorker. what has stories were always good.

I actually met Ted and took a pic with him in his wheelchair a year or two before he passed. We had a charter out of Islamorada and he kept his boat there (think it was the Worldwide Marina with the big Bass Pro). I agree with you on the Sea Vee - best boat I ever owned but without the charters and with access to at least 4 other similar boats that friends own, I wanted something cheaper to run.
