Kevin, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos because you actually GROW your plants! We see how they've struggled in the past, then see the fruit of your perseverance. This is so refreshing as I find too many youtube plant celebrities simply buy lush beautiful plants and talks about plant care as if they actually grew the plants to that size. I find your content so authentic! I would love to see a video focused on your rehabbed plants and their journey!
Honestly, thank you so much 💚 this comment means so much to me 🥰 I always want to share my experiences (good and bad) so maybe I can help others through what I've learned! I definitely want to do a video about plants that are not doing well. Maybe after part 2! Again, thank you 🥺💚
In my experience paraiso verde will look its best when they are in hotter places. All of my local plant sellers who are based in cooler cities tends to have greener paraiso verde, meanwhile my local plant sellers who are based in hotter cities always have brilliant paraiso verde to sell. So if you can somehow put them in hotter area or increase the temperature while still giving them lots of light, it’ll get their pattern back. I hope this helps 😊
OMG I just found your youtube page and have been bingeing the last couple days! Your philo (as well as Hoya and syngonium) collection is SO beautiful! Looks like we have very similar taste in plants ;)
For Paraiso Verde they need some direct lights. The more they are exposed to sun, the more variegation they will have. It is some kind of defense mechanism from the plant. Here at my place in Jakarta, Indonesia, I put them outdoor, with lots of sunlight and heat and humidity...that is the condition they are happy the most.
Omg thank you so much I love your videos, you've helped me so much with my plants. You have such a soothing voice I believe we are really plant bffs in real life, like for realz!!
Kevin, you are mine antidepressant. Love your show. Watch every episode at breakfast and get my dose. Just wandering, why not hang some plants. Will open more space.
I have all my philodendrons in pon, but I don't use self-watering. I just water them like my other plants in soil. I think they like to dry out a bit between waterings unlike thirstier plants like syngoniums or anthuriums.
@@kevin. Mine are definitely happy. I just had issues with a large verrucosum. It didn't adapt well but my little verrucosum is thriving in pon and much more resilient than the big one in soil. So I think with really sensitive or finely rooted plants it might be better to put younger, barely rooted plants in pon to adjust better (although that's the only plant I've had react that way with pon). But my melanochrysum, squamiferum, prince of orange, black cardinal, burle marx, florida ghost, micans, birkin, selloum, and subhastatum really love it. They had growth spurts when I moved them, and, of course, grew super thick new roots. I have them in clear orchid pots and water them every 7-10 days.
Kevin, it's about Paraiso Verde. Variegation returned when I put the plant on the southwest window and illuminated by the full spectrum lamp for 4-5 hours extra.
I can’t believe I’m watching this AGAIN lol!, but your videos are so rewatchable! I feel like a reverted paraiso verde looks exactly like a burle marks. Welp im dealing with spider mites again and am always so impressed with how lush & gorgeous your plants always look. Your green thumb is RIDICULOUS!! I absolutely love your videos and literally watch them over and over again. Be well,Kevin, and thank you so much for so much entertaining content to watch when I have insomnia 😂 -Nora
Love your videos. For the paraiso verde, you could try taking a razor to the nodes where the green is growing. It forces the variegation nodes to sprout some variegation. I saw Nick Alexander do it with success, I haven’t tried it myself.
I've watched your videos almost the entire day!!! Thank you very much. I ended up buying leca and nutrients but sadly i couldn't find that brand of nutrients here in New Zealand but i did manage to buy a diffrent brand. Hopefully it works.... am sooooo jealous with how healthy and lush your plants are.
Thank you for the videos! Did you figure out the Philodendron Paraiso Verde. Same thing happened to mine! Apparently I was giving it TO MUCH light! If you give it higher light the leaves turn solid green. If you drop the light levels the mottled variegation comes back. I heard kept hearing and reading more light but it was the opposite. Also my leaves start with very little variegation and as the leaves start to harden off it comes out more! Good luck happy growing!
Current favorite plant channel ❤️ love the realness and I feel you with the thrips D: they keep eating my beauties! Would love to see a video on treatment of pests you’ve experienced and what has worked for you :)
I really love it when you drop leca on the floor. I think your next philo paraiso verde leaf on the smaller plants will be dotted and mottled. When I bought mine, it had one very mottled amazing leaf and 2 green leaves. The next leaf had dots and mottling. It is now giving off very mottled leaves regularly. Mine is really big and tall and has aerial roots everywhere and it seems to be growing bark on it’s lower stem.
Lol the Leca is trying to run away from me 🤣 oh cool! Thanks for letting me know. I'm hoping it follows that trend and yeah they stems get really thick with these guys ☺️💚
I'm absolutely 💯% in love with your plowmanii I never knew I needed one until seeing yours. The ghost as well. Oh my gosh I just need all of these plants ha ha ha
Different types of fertilizer will either promote or suppress variegation in plants as far as my RU-vid binge has taught me... maybe look into that for your Paraiso Verde...
That plowmanii 😍 My philodendron mamei is crawler too and I think I might try let it grow hanging out of the pot, just have to figure out how to not let it fall from the weight 😅 I've seen some huge monstera deliciosa's grown as hanging plants from stairwells and such and they look so gorgeous.
paraiso verde i have is same as yours green so fed up with it now i have put it in outdoor greenhouse in last ditch attempt to get some variegation back
Am new to your channel and I Super love your plant collection, you have the most fabulous plants ever. Am so jealous! You have all my plant wish list and they are so full and lush. Would you mind sharing the link of the pot you use with the vertical pattern seems it has a net pot that comes with it. Thanks
You are the second you tuber so far that I have heard that are having issues with philodendrons and Pon. I am currently converting plants into Pon but slowly.
I love ALLLL OF THEM so much. And you make me laugh so much. So adorbs. Ok but really I do need all the info about your fertilizer schedule/nutrients pleeeease so I can get those big leaves!!!!(also grow in semi hydro)
Your brandi is goals! Mine hates me and there’s 3 of them who hates me. I transitioned them to leca and they haven’t done anything yet. Arrgggh… Your philo collection though, 🤩🥰
Can you buy the same pot and cut the tops of the pots (the dark tan part that the leca is in) where they would meet so it can continue to grow into the new pot? Maybe superglue the base pots together Lol Excessive but I think it could work!!
Hey Kevin! I've grown a few paraiso verdes & I find that the variegation is affected by not only light, but temperature too. I have 1 paraiso that I grew indoor in our living room... it barely gets light. The leaves were getting smaller and greener. Once it was moved outdoor, the leaves slowly getting more and more molted. I find they enjoy direct morning sun. Don't give up! Paraisos I find never truly revert.
Omg thank you so much Karen!!! I've been hearing a lot of theories about it but this makes sense just because the one with variegation in the video get the most direct light. My temperature generally runs cooler than usual so that's probably a reason too! I'll definitely keep you guys updated in the next few months 💚😊
@@kevin. I'm glad I can help! Which is why if you notice, most PVs that were imported/shipped from the tropics to non-tropics climate normally tend to get greener. Honestly I rarely see people here in the US/Canada with PVs that have high minty var, unless they keep it in a greenhouse or cabinet. Especially during winter, you see most people's PVs are greener and grow slower due to weather being cooler and less light. I'm sure your baby will throw out more var! That last leaf is a good start:)
Your facial expressions make me laugh. You always look so betrayed when leca falls! And your terrestrial philo are like a mini forests! Gorgeous. I think you should propagate one of them. Maybe the Gloriousum. They’re so beastly with growth. I have one that I thought was dead and it came back to life. Now it’s pushing 2 leaves a month and I’m about to run out of space.
Hi, can you give me tips on transferring philo gloriosum from soil to leca, mine had root rot and I just transferred back to soil again. Please help 🥺. Yours is so glorious and beautiful!!
All your plants are little cuties honestly. Do you have an all time favourite? It’s hard to pick one but mine would be my Cebu even though I have uncommon plants in my collection.
Gloriosum propagates really easy and fast... I choped 2 of mine and from from each half I got 3 shoots so from 2 I got 6 more now 8 gloriusom plants. They looove high humidity for propagation
@@kevin. if you're still undecided about it, it can actually be a little easier to prop crawlers than climbers! especially if you keep a few nodes on one propagation, they can often have more established roots already in the substrate! I also believe that gloriosum don't size down much when you propagate them! Caitlin from Plant Life in the Tropics just did a whole week of videos on Gloriosum, and she propagated hers as well with great results (she also grows hers in either full or semi-hydro too) :)
I wonder if the rotten smell you smelled, was your flowers on the Florida? If your water was ok & no root rot, I just wonder if it could be the flowers???
Ps. This was a great video to watch while I untangled my 5 ft string of hearts that my twin toddlers yanked on and came crashing down from a height of the ceiling... what is that? 8 ft? Ughhhh.
No do not propagate her! Let her grow more and more! I’m telling you, enjoy her like this a little longer. Give her 6 months and repot her. Once she outgrows the new pot, then maybe you should. She will be so much bigger!
