This is my all time favorite disc golf putting tip because it will make you a better putter even if you don't change a thing about your putt.

A good example of why Scott Stokely is the top coach in disc golf. Breaks it down as simple as it can get. Tells you the what, the why, and the how. Makes it actionable. Thanks, Scott.

I have such an issue with putting. I’m definitely going try this and be consistent with this rule. The Golden Rule of Putting! Thanks Coach!

Hey Scott, I don't have much time to throw discs or watch dg content lately, but I saw your ace at Waco and it inspired me to keep practicing. You've been bringing the incredibly energy for a damn long time and I hope you don't stop any time soon! Thanks for everything you do!

I used to be a filthy putter and then I got the yips after focusing on distance. Damn- 6 and a half minutes fixed my yips. Was crushing my putts at circles edge today. Thanks Scott Stokely.

This also taught me the biggest thing to help me putting years ago! I like to envision a small box in front of the basket/chains and when I'm connecting w it I'm on!

Never really crossed my mind to leave my follow through up to see where I was releasing. Great thought process and well explained

I saw a video with Ricky Wysocki where he said to shake hands with the basket. This way of thinking has really helped with my follow through.

Yea I saw the same video a bit ago and it really helped get a consistent putting release and flight.

The follow-through concept applies to so many scenarios. I shoot skeet & clays a lot & follow-through is absolutely essential for good shooting. The opposite is "stopping" the gun (which results in missed shots). Thx for posting ☆

Sir Scott, your old vids have helped me so much. Remember the one where you compared putting to throwing a dart? It was a game changer for me.

Absolutely plausible, as soon as you hear it. And really well explained, thanks so much! Regarding other sports: I always wondered why snooker or billard pros usually leave the queue stationary for so long after hitting the playball. Often they hold it so long in the position, that they have to pull away just in time before a ball hits the queue or their arm. Now that makes totally sense to me. : ) (They also tell you to "hit through the ball", which I think is billard's equivalent of follow-through.)

I have been using my practice basket, with intent to hit the target for a couple of weeks now. Half realized today... aiming with my follow through helped me be more on target. I have had this video saved for a month, then watched it just now. It concreted the idea of aiming with my follow through, learned The Golden Rule, and some more. Thanks Scott!

I have been telling every new player to the game this for 40 years. I put athletic tape on a finger or two on my left hand, and put the letters SSF there for a reminder for my routine. The first S is SPOT, find your spot, and the second S is SET, and set your shot and then the F is FOLLOW THROUGH and do exactly what Scott says make sure your hand stays right on the follow through and I can’t believe how many PUTTS I have made with that Technique. Don’t get me wrong. This is not easy to do each time you putt you have to think about those three simple things … but the most important one, is follow through. CONCENTRATE… which is simply FOCUSED ATTENTION. That is what makes a champion. Edit here. I would like to add that it is SO important to NOT look at your disc, keep your eye on that SPECIFIC SPOT (the first S ) …just like a free throw shooter in basketball, he only looks at the back of the rim…

Having immediate clear feedback is so crucial to self-teaching and correcting... great job communicating the need for a judgement point in your technique. So important to be able to tell yourself "Yes - that is correct" or "No - what did I do wrong and what changes do I need to make" with every putt. Good stuff!

The 6 month class helped my putting a great deal, due to things like this. You can aim and pump fake and feel good, but that follow-through and keeping your arm/hand out is going to tell you what you actually did. If you're looking at your missed putt and seeing your arm way right, that's information! It's easy to forget to do it in the moment, but if you miss 6 key putts and are starting to get frustrated and remember to keep your arm out, BAM, you'll know what you did and you'll sort it! You'll give that 7th a good chance, feel like you've worked it out, and that 8th one will go in. Just remember to do it right away to save the 6 strokes!

Perfect video for the front of the body during putting! Scott, can you cover the legs and counterbalancing form to get the line to the basket going through the entire motion. Took me a while to figure out how to let my left leg pop up behind me no matter how far away and through a common line to the basket. Until I got the back leg working right, the upper body would end up unbalanced, despite pointing at the basket.

YESSS! Love this advice. Shorten the feedback loop between action and result. Freezing the follow-through works down to the smallest details - is my shoulder in the right spot? is my head at the right level? Is my body moving forward? Whatever is part of your routine and putting motion, you can validate it against the result ONLY if you hold that follow-through.

I call it this tactic "Hand of God" . As long as I'm obedient it has positive results. It's similar to darts as well - you literally point at where you want it to go . Similar to the end of a barrel of a gun and a bullet trajectory .. not a new concept but you provided clear details some may have missed. Good work.

Interesting information! I also find that bending real low to the basket and then pushing off my back foot towards the basket allows me to basically throw in a line from my chest towards the tip of my nose. If I don't lean towards the basket it's like aiming from the hip! Edit: I basically copy James Conrad and it works 😂

This is pedantic but pro athletes in other sports definitely self assess and adjust. They might not even know they're doing it. Many ams (self included) don't adjust well because we often incorrectly identify the problem or we identify the problem correctly and the adjustment throws something else off. Knowing you have an adjustment to make can cause or relieve stress and stress=missed putts.
