I had a '70 (not SS) that I loved like Rabbit loves that one when I was in college and my first couple of years working. I also had THE "girl car" import with a targa top. I loved them both, but the '70 was wrecked too many times and I didn't have the money to keep her up, so I let her go. That car was a magnet for people crashing into (Chinese girls learning to drive on campus 2x, crackheads rear-ending it in hit-and-run in Omaha, sideswipe hit-and-run on campus, etc), so it wasn't cheap to keep fixing. It ran famously, and I drove that thing anywhere and everywhere. I don't even know how many miles she had on her. I will say that my late bodywork guy was a genius, and took care of her each and every time - like it was his car. He had it enough it might was well have been. Great car, great memories. Thank you.
I just started watching your channel. What makes your channel so special is, You're a down-to-earth type guy. That walks the walk and talks the talk! Keep up the great story's!
I have a 64 malibu. 350/350 hp. It's been in the shop to many years waiting on me to restore it. Same color blue. Absolute blast to drive. Just a great driver.
Having been born in 1965. My Father bought new a 65 Malibu SS 327/365 h.p. But of course he couldn't leave it alone. Bored .120 over, Racer Brown Cam,Dual Holley 4150's,M-22 Muncie "Rock Crusher" Hurst dual gate shifter,5:13 gears with the mandatory Chrome reverse wheels. Other than my 65 Malibu ( bought out of Tabor City,N.C.) being the color it's just a little 283, 2 speed powerglide. Everybody wants me to "Hot Rod" it! But my Wife just likes it stock, quiet single exhaust,14" white walls with the factory wire wheel covers. Sometimes cars just grow on you!
Best channel on RU-vid! And my favorite part of these videos... we aren't getting bombarded with ads every 2-3 minutes. I wish you much success here Rabbit, keep kicking ass!
Rob, I have two vintage Buicks. One is a '56 Buick Special I have spent tons of money on, and I do love it. I have owned it for 34 years. My daily driver is a 2012 300 horse Nissan Maxima I also thoroughly enjoy. But my favorite for the last nine years, is a 1965 Buick Skylark 4 door sedan. It needs paint, but the body is solid. The interior is mostly done but still needs some work. So it is definitely a work in progress. But it has a 250 horse 4 barrel 300 V8 in it, a stoutly rebuilt Buick Super Turbine 300 (fancy Buick name for a Powerglide). Is it perfect, far from it. But it has power steering and brakes, and is about as reliable as gravity. I drive it every chance I get. If it ever wins an award, other than Most Ambitious Restoration, the shock would probably kill me. But even though I have other rides, that old Skylark is definitely my odds on favorite. So I get it Rabbit, I really do.
I loved this video just bought my first real muscle car 1969 chevelle Malibu not a numbers car the guy that had it did a 9inch 410 gears built turbo 400 manual valve body 3500 stall converter ( stole this car for 3,500 bucks) didnt have an engine so me and a buddy dropped a cammed 5.3 in it makes good power and is a ton of fun always wanted to build a car with my dad unfortunately he passed before we ever could. I'm 33 I'm building it with my boys and I'm gonna paint the town red with it and hit a few airport drags and just think about my dad while I do it... i love your chevelle thanks for the video rob your one of the top reasons i needed a muscle car
I hope you still have that old boo thang. Bulletproof 327 with a coupe and the blue on blue. It's the perfect meant to be loved and driven car. That era of old GM engineering is the pinnacle of american style and class at a good price.
Oh boy, the first musclecar. That will draw a million argument's lol. Idc myself I like them all, arguing which one was first doesn't interest me. I'd say after 7 years you might have a keeper. I know just what you mean when you're doubtful you'll find one you like as much. Always liked the 65s. Thanks for sharing
That is exactly what I love about my 66 straight 6 cylinder mustang. It’s quiet and a good cruiser to go down Main Street with. It doesn’t shake, and I can hear the radio just fine!
Damn. Would've never thought you said a 65 Malibu was your favorite. Funny thing is, I own a 65 myself and YEARS ago, mid 90's I worked at a Chevy dealer in Decatur Georgia. Nalley was our competition lol
This video is perfect, a lot of people don't want to hear it but sometimes less is more for sure. Practicality, comfort, all mixed in with good performance that's not too over the top can go a very long way. I had a lot more fun daily driving my little 350hp Evo than jumping in the widow maker Supra. It's all fun for a while but when you get older a car that doesnt beat you up when you drive it is more enjoyable.
Mine was 1972 Dodge Polara walking tall sheriff's car, beige, 318 two barrel, stock with a single exhaust with a glasspack. It got 20 mpg and I had a tow dolly I used it to drag junk cars to Foss auto salvage in LaGrange, funny thing it got 20 mpg, towing a car it got 22 mpg! But the greatest thing about dodge/Mopar cars is the little yellow turn signals on the fenders, you look accross the hood, you know the turn signals working cause that little yellow light is in the backwards scoop blinking, folks would ask me if it had a HEMI, I would say, Hell Yeah! (318 2bbl) Man you talking about room, leg room, it was just a sweet ride!
I have found that the older I get, the more "comfort" matters... in pretty much all things. There comes a point when comfort becomes priceless... nice to know there are others who feel the same.
I thought I was the only one who had to 'hide' my favorite car from myself sometimes lol. But I agree- the best cars are the ones that fit YOU best, doesn't have to be the most expensive, the most pretty, or the fastest. Don't be afraid of those miles though, Rabbit! Here's to the #BillionMileBooThang !
What I loved about my 65 Impala SS was the styling... cast your eye around the interior carpet darker blue lighter color blue as you move up the door cards the touches of chrome and black on the console the powder blue of the headliner with embossed stars... don’t make em like that anymore...
Hey Rob, I live about 20 miles south from where your Boo was built and sold. The dealership where it was sold was torn down a few years ago. I own a 1967 Malibu that was built in the same plant. I have the paperwork from when the original owner bought it. I'm the 3rd owner and don't plan on selling it. It has been a great car.
Hope you keep it, when I was younger I had a '67 blue Malibu very similar setup and of all the cars I've had I still think I should have kept it. I'll just get another and recreate it! LoL
Yeah it's a beautiful car I love them n I definitely think Some cars become almost family it's funny we had a VW camper which my grandpa bought brand new n an 18 wheeler smashed into it my whole family was devastated crying n Arh hell yeah loving videos Full Send U.K.
It's your favorite car because as you said it's not the most expensive one you've owned it's not the prettiest but it works as something you can jump in and just drive to anywhere
My favorite muscle car is probably a mid-late 60’s mustang fastback or even just the regular mustang coupe. But I have grown to appreciate the 2-door 1965 ford fair lane sitting at my grandpa’s farm, it’s got a few rock chips, sun damaged black paint but in some parts it’s still glossy. The red leather interior is covered by a towel and underneath it is pretty pristine. It has a broken passenger door hinge but that’s pretty much the main problem, the engine is the same ford 289 as the mustangs around then but it has aftermarket heads and there is a wide market for aftermarket parts because most parts are compatible with the similar mustangs. It is a really under appreciated car, even though it is a two door it is still more spacious than the mustangs from around then.
I had a 64 Chevelle Malibu SS. All the nice chrome trim on the body was still good, 327-300 hp, 4 speed, 308 rear. Drove it until it had to be parked, let it sit for years, then sold it. The guy I sold it to researched the vin #, the car had been built as a SS car yes, but with a straight six engine. Who would have ever guessed those cars were available like that?
I agree with you 100%. It doesn't matter how fast or expensive something is. If it stands out to you and is something you enjoy, that makes all the difference in the world.
that is awesome mate, can agree more, i love my old trucks and and some of them fast cars, but i rather sit in jail for 10 hours than in most of them for 10 hours. Love my daily driver, love my classics but man do they suck for every day stuff
some cars are like that. Just comfortable, even the same year and model isn't the same. My favorite car, a 70 valiant with a slant six, four doors, nothing to look at, not high performance anything, but it always got me there, and got me home, without making me hunch over or anything. I'm 6 6 and well over 300 these days, not too many cars fit at all. Nowadays, I buy cars like I do shoes, if they fit, that's what I buy regardless of most anything else. Still none was as good as that old valiant. When if finally did crap out, it threw a rod through the block.. but it still got me about ten miles home with no oil or water in it. Months later, I could put a battery in it and it would still run well enough to move it around the yard. You just don't find em like that anymore.
So few understand that cars (trucks too) can be more then a way to point B from A. My BMW Z3 M roadster is like that for me. I’m tall so it is tight but it like fitting in to a good fitting glove beside head room for me. It puts a smile on my face every time I pull it out of the garage and do enjoy driving it however as much as I love driving it a 10 days long trip in it, I’m not so sure about that in a M car. Never sell it and put the wheels back on when they fall off.
I gotta echo about being able to fit into your ride.. I’m 5-11, almost 200 pounds. I hate riding in little cars, it’s just not comfortable, I can’t imagine trying to sit beside anyone in a car 39” wide. That’s why my toy is a truck lol
I get it. Trust me. I had a '64 Malibu SS for 12 yrs, sold it during a divorce & i regret it tremendously! Feels like i sold a piece of my soul. Gone get another 1 soon even if it takes 40-50k from my 401K lol
I totally understand, mine right now is a 1995 GMC 1500 short box 4.3 5 speed, I wasn't looking for anther vehicle but this little green truck got my attention. I walked over to just have a look. well it was standard shift and said 1500 and tax on windshield, could feel the Jones starting. the lot owner said I'll get you the key and soon reappeared . started the truck up, ran sweet. it was a repop, it had house paint spots all over bed, he got more paint on the truck than jobs he did! lots of trash and miscellaneous stuff in cab and bed.. now you can check it out on vinwiki., not done with tinkering. the 4.3 now has msd coil, jets 8.5 wires, soon to get tbi spacer and cold air intake. my ex calls it another money pit, in this life fun is where you find it or one man's trash is another mans treasure. it's an old truck but it's fun to drive and I can do odds and ends to make it better.
