If you wanna tell me who your favorite racehorse is put it in the comment section below or Dm on Twitter @NathanTheCaller. You can either send me a video of yourself explaining why this horse is your favorite or if you're camera shy send me a script for me to read for you.
My good friend Andrew ‪@Roadwarrior627‬ is a huge fan of Horse Racing. For this pilot episode of Favorite Racehorses he is going to talk about why Seattle Slew is his favorite racehorse of all time.

Slew, to me, is the king of American racehorses. He's the reason I'm no longer with the Secretariat cult. Thank you for this :)

Loved this. Slew’s JCGC was amazing. He showed that he’s more than just a fast horse, he’s a courageous champion who never gives up. One thing about Slew is he wasn’t just a great influence on his own breed, but through his son Louisiana Slew he made a great impact on the American Quarter Horse as well. A couple of my horses carry that bloodline, and I have to say it really brings that heart and toughness to the table. As far as best performances that resulted in a loss, I’d have to say Zenyatta in the 2010 BCC ranks pretty high up there too.

in a head to head duel with Secretariat I give Slew The Advantage... Big Red ran AMAZING.. but did not have to look Slew in the eye doing it...

Being British my favourite racehorse is probably Persian Punch, he wasn't the greatest horse, in fact he lost more than he won but he never gave up and honestly some of his brave performances are legendary. Check out the 2003 Jockey club cup and the 2003 Goodwood cup if you've never seen them and bare in mind he was 10 years old at this point. Even the 2001 Ascot gold cup which he lost is amazing.

Seattle Slew is my favorite racehorse BEFORE my time. I wasn't alive until 1980. 1. Rock Hard Ten 2. Cigar 3. Zenyatta 4. Ghostzapper 5. Justify (controversial pick) 6. Free House (fav horse I ever met) 7. Soul of the Matter (2nd fav I met) 8. Lava Man 9. Silver Charm 10. Lit de Justice (another sweetheart) 11. Seattle Slew 12. Secretariat 13. Easy Goer 14. Holy Bull 15. Affirmed 16. Spectacular Bid 17. Dr. Fager 18. Blame 19. Barbaro 20. Gentlemen 21. Skip Away 22. Serena's Song 23. Forego 24. Buckpasser 25. Deep Impact 26. California Chrome 27. Curlin 28. American Pharoah 29. Funny Cide (won me money 04 JCGC) 30. Silky Sullivan As talented as Dubai Millennium, Candy Ride, and Flightline were, I wasn't emotionally invested in them. Candy Ride was as forgettable as Mineshaft or Invasor who won HotY in 2003 and 2006, respectively.

If you want to see the bravest defeat by an athlete, you might want to watch the 1973 Grand National. It was the first time Red Rum ran in the race. The performance by Crisp is even more heroic when you consider that Red Rum won this race three times and also came seconds twice - in five attempts.

My all time favorite too!!!! BUT he DID have excuses. Your should have researched a bit more. The Patterson was his 1st race over 7 furlongs in a year (only 2) And at the time of the race (evening) Slew would have been sleeping in his Belmont stall.

I’ve heard a lot of great comments under this video but this takes the cake. Round Table was a real nice horse brilliant on both surfaces and the few times he did loose were against some interesting opponents like Hakuchikara the first Japanese horse to win an American race and good ol Clem. They don’t make ‘em like around Table anymore probably top 5 for best American Grass horse with John Henry

@@SketchyTheHorseGuy As good as Seattle Slew was, he simply did not have the talent required to win anywhere close to the number of races that Round Table could. After three years of racing, Round Table had 34 victories vs. only 14 for Slew. Round Table finished his career with 43 wins in just four years. He also set 16 track, US and World Records, carried between 130-136 pounds to victory 17 times. ran 1 1/'4 miles in under 2 minutes five times. If they somehow could have entered Seattle Slew against Round Table in 50 races in three years, on tracks and surfaces all around the country, my money would be on Round Table to win more of those.

@@sl-rt5kv Horse racing is horse racing so there is no telling if Round Table would ever beat Seattle Slew or if Seattle Slew would beat Round Table they raced in completely different eras too It would be easier to compare a horse from 2023-1980 than it from 1980-1950s That is how much racing changed in those years

@@Empireofracing2023*there is no telling if Round Table would ever beat Seattle Slew or if Seattle Slew would beat Round Table* Absolutely. On any given day Seattle Slew could beat Round table and Round Table could beat Seattle Slew. After all, they both lost to lesser horses. My comparison involves the sheer ability of these two horses to win races. There is little doubt that Round Table was capable of winning more. Seattle Slew only won 14 races racing from ages two through four whereas Round Table won 34 times from racing at the same ages and 43 times in his four-year career. There is no evidence that Seattle Slew was capable of winning anywhere close to that many races while competing so often with so little rest. The bottom line is Slew never came close. *It would be easier to compare a horse from 2023-1980 than it from 1980-1950s That is how much racing changed in those years* Round Table ran his last race 17 years before Seattle Slew ran his first race. There is no evidence that horse racing changed more in that 17 year time span then it did in the 43 years that elasped between 2023 and 1980 as you claim. I suspect the opposite is true. Also, many of the race times that Round Table recorded would be considered outstanding in any era.

When you mentioned his connections you did not mention his groom John Polston , he was the real conditioner of Slew.

1 Dr Fager, 1 Forego, 1 Ruffian, 3 way dead heat. I believe that Dr Fager would win a match race against any horse that ever ran, from 6 furlongs to a mile and a quarter.

I think the 14 lbs he gave Champion Dr. Patches in the Patterson was what caused that loss.
