This is an all around great movie but this scene grabs me every time. You can read and watch about everything you want but when you actually live it. It hits harder and helps make you the person you are today! Me - berawpodcast.com/
This movie is an absolute classic. I never had an abusive childhood like Will- but the message Robin Williams' character made resonated so deeply with me. This movie just goes to show how important a male role model is for a young man.
In this this day and age, a FAR cry from the 70s and 80s, I painfully guess that the Sistine Chapel smells like......absolutely nothing. It's odorless and sterile. Maybe it smelled like musty old books and heady candlewax 40 years ago. But now, nothing. This is me guessing, maybe someone can confirm that I'm right?
I was there, remembered this movie scene, took several deep breaths in through my nose and...it doesn't have a smell. The windows are open and no smell aside from the tourists around me, which fortunately didn't smell either. I would guess it's been far longer than 40 years ago that it had it's own distinct smell. The chapel opened to the public in 1512. @@CheerfullyCynical829
@@CheerfullyCynical829 I was just there last August, no particular smell as I can recall, but I think that's missing the point , his words are really proverbial in helping him to realize that he has not experienced a whole lot in his short life and his a very limited perspective. And that everything he has quickly 'sized up' based on limited information is far from accurate.
Yes, Robin Wiiliams was great. But did anybody realize the awesome acting of Matt Damon just by facial expressions? No words, just looks, that tell a whole story.
The true elegance of this scene. The intent to tear him a new one while speaking in a soft and non aggressive tone. The desire to let someone know that they're brilliant while also bringing them down to earth and giving them a dose of humility. It takes a truly complex mind to not only understand what it's like to be a genius, but even more so when you have to embody that person.
If you want to see an actor I will show you Robin Williams…a man who could pretend to be a child in neverland, a nanny, but also give the most heartfelt performances as a school teacher or a math professor to a knucklehead!
I admire great comic actors who can turn the humor “off”, and become a tormented or serious character that can easily bring out your fear or sorrow. Robin could do that.
The THE best actor ever is Robin Williams look at his resume what he’s done. From kids movies to sitcoms to serious movies to sad movies to funny movies. He was a gem wish he was still around
This and his ‘poetry and arts’ speech from Dead Poets Society are two of my favorite monologues by any actor. RIP, Mr. Williams, and thanks for the memories.
This, the changing of perspective by standing on the table in Dead Poets Society, the war speech from Doctor Who and how Malcolm in the Middle shows a family rallying together at the drop of a hat really shows the inner workings of humanity. How important emotions are, how much difference a new perspective can make, how important it is to work together to all get through it and how no matter how much we think we’re right when the battle starts it’s irrelevant to how much will be lost and the fact that we’ll still need to sit down and talk it through, because life is too precious and short to waste it on not having time with your loved ones.
4:30-"Your move, Chief." Rest easy, Robin. Your comedic and philosophical side will be encapsulated within the greatness of these timeless films forever.
Will may have ripped Sean's life apart for a bit, but Sean showed Will that he's too chickenshit to live one. Will is more raw and exposed than any beating he's ever experienced, yet it was done to him out of understanding and respect. Will had no defense, no armor against Sean's brilliance at getting through to him in that moment. Sean knew Will was going to need that Taster's Choice moment after Sean exposed the anchor Will thought was armor. Will is left emotionally exposed, maybe even traumatized a bit, but surrounded by that lake with children playing, families bonding, swans swimming.
This is not just a movie ! This is a manual for every person who shuts people out of their life, holds in pain, keeps their walls up and not letting anyone in. Hell this is my life.
What makes the scene work so well is that Sean never raises his voice wants to Will. It's steady, it's consistent in its tone and speed, and there are beats wear appropriate to drive home the points Robin did fantastic job in this monologue. His character completely demolishes Wills assessment of him and is taken to task over his attitude problem.
This scene I have watched many times. It is in my opinion one of Robin's most powerful. DPS will always be legendary and should be viewed to this day by schools and colleges.
Miss you so much Robin, my son even wasn’t born when you left us and he knows your movies, thanks for your heritage, hope you feel better where ever you are
I feel this scene encapsulates knowledge vs experience. Knowledge can't hold a candle to experience, yet many people act like they are equal these days.
He'll always be known for his comedic side but he was a true thespian. He was so brilliant and gone way too soon. I miss him but we still have his performances.
We need a movie like this Rated G for kids to learn. This movie continues to be a first class , so much to learn from this amazing script. The acting of Robin Williams, Matt Damon and Affleck is another story !!! Superb !!!!
Yeah, that right there, that's good stuff! Sure do miss that man ... saw him back when he was Mork and have been watching him ever since. What a sad, tragic loss.
I miss Robin so much… to this day, whenever I’m really down, i always watch Flubber. It absolutely breaks me to know how much he was suffering… to know that someone so special and talented, someone so pure of heart who just wanted to make people laugh… was suffering so deeply. Robin and Chris Farley both just kill me when i think of it… I wish everyone out there well. Just know that people really do care about you. But sometimes people just can’t read you to the degree needed. You gotta at least try and reach out for help. You’re not alone.
The moment for someone that’s never known it. The moment you realize someone actually cares. Then when you realize that it becomes easier to let others that care in. He falls for the girl and Ben’s character gives home the speech about he better not be here one day, his boys give him the car……. It all stems from the moment. Such a great film and couldn’t have been a better man to play Robins character.
The world is a lesser place without Robin Williams. Fantastic actor, and his role in this should truly be a lesson to many about the difference between intellect and understanding. Yes, you can know much, but experience and understanding is unteachable and exceptionally important in building a person.
Everyone makes such a fuss over this movie, but have you seen "What Dreams may come" It is a work of art on so many levels. Don't get me wrong I love Robin Williams in any of his portrayals, he had so much depth in any character he stepped into, I can't say I really knew him, but he put a deep part of himself in every character he assumed. I miss him to this day and probably always will.
I miss Robin every day. He gave so much laughter and joy to so many for many years. Only wish I could have helped him in his time of need. We all need help in life just wish people weren't afraid to ask for help. Will never forget all the happiness Robin gave me growing up. My he RIP forever and be thankful that I got to witness a truly wonderful person like Robin Williams in my lifetime. Plus, this is one of my favorite movies, and I have watched it more than 20 times, and it never gets old.
People can always feign intelligence, but fior me, a strong tell has always been how good of a listener they are. Notice how Will is actually paying attention here. I have an IQ in the top 2 percentiles, yet I found most people fascinating regardless of their education/ethnicity/background, etc.
Having a high IQ is great but does determine success. The most successful individuals are smart enough but also has the ability to connect and socialize with others.
Anyone else notice that Robin's shirt under his sweater is a Bugle Boy shirt based on the design on the collar? 100 years from now BB will make it's comeback, 😁😁😁.
