I think that we can generally agree that the sound man was the fourth stooge, the pokes, slaps and everything in between was enhanced by their great audio finesse.
these are priceless, and if you listen real close, you can hear the sounds of the pistons of the engines, typical of the type of marine engine used in freighters.
Nothing funnier than some big foreign guy with a clever or an ax chasing Shemp around while repeating "I keel you!", with Shemp yelling "OHHH, OHHH, OHHH!"
On a campout, my buddies lit the seat of my pants on fire. With flames burning my ass, I ran to a nearby creek on rocky soil, barefoot. When Shemp sat in the burning barrel, it reminded me when my butt was on fire!

I don't know how the Stooges kept themselves from being taken to the hospital for burns, but you could have been burnt to the point where you needed to be hospitalized. Remember what happened to Curly in Violent Is The Word For Curly? He suffered first degree burns from being 'thawed out' on the revolving spit.
@@kevinmiller1985 Even though my rear end was red and sore along with the hair on my butt being singed, I needed no treatment. All I can remember is I couldn't sit for two days. Now I laugh about this prank my buddies played on me.
My grandmother also used to call it "fillum". Drove me nuts, but i never corrected her. She also used to call the New York Port Authority "Port of Authority"😖
i also love the "niagara falls" skit, there have been many who did this skit, but the stooges do it the best, even with them doing it with the car when they are going on their honeymoon. there are times especially if i am in a so called serious conversation and i need to lighten it up, if by chance some one mentions niagara falls, i start with the skit, and everytime everyone knows it and most join in.
The creators of Get Smart (Mel Brooks, Buck Henry) must have been fans of the Stooges because in the season two episode Rub-A-Dub-Dub, Three Spies On A Sub, Max (Don Adams) does the Falling-Out-Of-The-Hammock gag himself.
John- i remember noting well that sound from when i was a kid. I wanted to believe that it was the floor creaking from Shemp's dancing, but that sound was out-of-time, so my best guess it was the overhead microphone boom moving.
Shemp’s Fatal Heart Attack on November 22,1955 was caused by smoking. Although he was lighting a Cigar when he died , Shemp was actually 3 pack a day Camel smoker.
@@plawson8577I read that in the months leading up to his death, Shemp was secretly taking nitro pills for chest pains. That should have been enough to get him to a doctor.
@@basilmarasco1975 yes, look up alger hiss it took place in the early 1950's. even though the three stooges are slap stick "low brow" humor it is still professional, and i believe it was scripted for a more intelligent viewer, have you ever noticed they quote shakespeare, sir walter raleigh, and others. only a person of some intelligence would know that, and i always like how they blended in some classical music into their comedy. and moe howard was the FIRST person to make fun of adolph hitler, not charlie chaplin, and hitler knew about it too. i loved the one when the stooges captured a whole german freighter, and when the captian asked how could three men make a fool out of a whole german crew, the officer replies " the are americans"
@@tommyhauck8597 Yes, I've read a little about the Hiss case (including the pumpkin). I wasn't aware of the quotes but, yes, the classical music is a good touch.
@@tommyhauck8597 Shemp Howard had a Pretty Bad Smoking in Bed Habit in real life. He was also a 3 pack a Day Camel and Chesterfield Smoker. Yes, ALL the Howard Brothers and Fine were Heavy Smokers. Moe smoked Marlboros and Winstons, Larry LOVED Lucky Strikes, and Jerry/Curly enjoyed Phillip Morris 100s when he didn't have his Cigars.
In 1947, Curly suffered a massive stroke when he walked off camera in the short: "Half-wits Holiday". He was immediately sent to the hospital and was unable to work with the stooges again. They decided to replace Curly with Shemp who was a great comedian and the older brother of Moe. Moe did take good care of his younger brother while he was off duty. A few years later, Curly soon died from another debilitating stroke at age 44 in 1952.
