What a beautiful collection and you have definitely made me think about the lack of poetry I read for pleasure - a terrible confession for an English teacher! I have a six month old son and we read to him at bedtime but I might have a look at some of these to read to him. I realise he is still so young however I am a true believer that exposure to language at a young age is fantastic for a baby’s development and it is a good way for me to read more poetry. I really enjoy your videos so thank you for creating them.

Those covers are just marvelous! I'd not really thought to look for a Poem-a-Day book, but what a good idea! I started listening to a daily poem podcast about a year ago. When I was at the Oregon coast in September, the lines of a Wordsworth poem jumped to my mind as I looked at the crashing waves: "Listen! the mighty Being is awake, and doth with his eternal motion make a sound like thunder--everlastingly." I was so stunned. I couldn't remember why I would have remembered that. I googled it and then found that the poem had been featured on the podcast about two months before. It was a sublime moment.

Poem a day podcast are lovely! How lovely to have a line of poetry just come into your head like that. My mum tries to learn a new poem by heart every other day, which I admire!

... thank you for this wonderful video, Miranda. I'm German and a lover of nature poetry. There seem to be so much more inspiring poetry anthologies in English than in my mother tongue. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more of your videos. Two more poetry books that seem very appealing to me: "Poems of Earth and Spirit" by Kai Siedenburg and "Sisters of the Earth: Women's Prose and Poetry About Nature" by Lorraine Anderson. Poetry helps me heal from childhood trauma. I regularly see a poetry therapist who supports me with approaching my biography through writing.

I received A Poem for Every Night of the Year for Christmas a couple of years ago now and I really loved reading a poem each day and finding out what was the selected poem on my birthday and such. I haven't read much poetry in quite a while, but it's a habit I'd love to get back into and rediscover my love for. So many wonderful anthologies here, and all such beautiful editions! Thank you for sharing:) I think I'll be purchasing A Nature Poem for Every Day of the Year soon. I'd also love to try some short story collections and I was wondering if perhaps you could make a video on this with some suggestions.

Thanks for your lovely comment! I'd love to do a video on short story collections at some point. I'll add that video to my list of ideas! A Nature Poem for Every Day of the Year is a gem :)

Hi Miranda! Ok, so I need your advice. For someone (me) who has always feared poetry, which one of these you shared today would you recommend I start with? I really don't think I need the children's version, but a simpler adult version. Poetry has always intimidated me so I have avoided it my entire life. I would LOVE to give this daily practice a try. I do have other daily practices that I would love to share. I journal. I keep a gratitude journal in which at night before bed I write down 3 specific things that I am grateful for. I also read SIMPLE ABUNDANCE (brand new updated edition was recently released) by Sarah BanBreathnach every morning. It is WONDERFUL. I have other journals as well, some for specific entries and others just to vent.....it all depends on the day. My favorite thing is having a collection of full journals to look back on later in my years. LOVED this video, as I do ALL of your other videos. Have a lovely week!

Thanks so much for your comment! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos. 'Simple Abundance' sounds like an interesting read - I'll have to seek out a copy. Out of the poetry anthologies featured in my video, I would recommend 'A Nature Poem for Every Day of the Year' for anyone who is a little nervous about tackling poetry. I think having a single topic anthology (like nature) helps a lot, because although you'll still get a lovely range of form, rhythm and style, I think it's useful when new to poetry to come at it from a particular slant. Besides, it's a lovely guide to the changing seasons!

Hi Miranda, hope everything is going well with you :) I am planning on buying either 'A Poem for Every Day of the Year' or 'A Poem for Every Night of the Year', which one would you recommend? Thank you in advance :)

Either are fun. I don't really think it makes a great deal of difference, but I tend to read Day in the morning and Night in the evening so would depend on your own reading time preference I suppose.
