Well, good luck to you - you will need it. It may look good now, but it will not last. The next crises will always come and stop you dead in your tracks. After 36 years as an airline pilot for 14 airlines - including four majors like Pan Am, I retired at United barely able to get off reserve on the most junior airplane and most junior base. (BTW, they totally ignored my retirement flight. They would not give me a choice of a trip and said if I wanted to have SOMEONE from the Chief Pilot office greet me, I would have to put in a request, and if someone was free at the time, they would send him out. Not like in the movies.) Everything depends on your luck and timing. You never get rewarded for your experience. And don't think this video is typical of your actual trips. I can't remember the last time ANYONE on a layover went out to dinner together. The Flight Attendants are all slam-clicks. Most of the time you don't even go to the same hotel. This video is like propaganda. I know you don't want to believe that, but you will see...

@@AdventureswithaaronB Then go for it. Just know that how your career goes depends totally on luck. Right age, right time, right airline. I have been furloughed at least ten times, gone through almost as many airline bankruptcies, and the mergers of major airlines two times. In both mergers I got the short end of the stick. In fact, in one merger, the other pilot group tried to take away 100% of my seniority. You may be the lucky one with a normal good career...

Congratulations Swain and welcome to the United family! I have been with United as an Aviation Maintenance Technician in San Francisco for 33 years. Please get to know the gate mechanics who sign the MRDs (maintenance release document) for your airplane. Your mechanic will often be on the phone with TOMC (Technical Operations Maintenance Control in Chicago) minutes before your scheduled departure time, trying to MEL (Minimum Equipment List) a deferrable ELB (Electronic Logbook) log page item that doesn’t effect the safety of flight. With record post-COVID load factors, your gate mechanic is likely handling several scheduled departures simultaneously. Sometimes to the point of exhaustion. Please give him or her some love. A lot of media attention is given to the shortage of pilots for the airlines and I do appreciate that United management has allowed you to produce this video as a recruitment tool for pilots. I’ll have to admit that I wondered how you managed to pull off the wonderful production quality, given United’s typically draconian social media policy! With that having been said, you asked about what your viewers might like to see as part of the behind the scenes at United. United Airlines used to have a dedicated film and video department that produced wonderful films about United Airlines. Those old films can still be found at Periscope Films on RU-vid. I read somewhere that it was United’s film department that produced the film of the underside of a DC-8 landing in Honolulu that was used in the title sequence for Hawaii Five-O (1968). I don’t have a citation but it is a good story. Anyway, if United is going to continue to grant you access for your videos, maybe you can help them to address the airline mechanic shortage by showcasing how what we as mechanics (AMTs) do, directly affects whether or not your flight is going to leave on time. One last question: Now that you’re in the “bigs,” does that mean you’re done with Bold Method?

I love the Boeing 767-300! We had them at Air New Zealand until they were retired them in 2017. Such a cool aircraft.

Swayne my friend (may I call you that?). I have been viewing all of your vlogs since the beginning and to see you in that stunning uniform, the new set of wings and flying my ultimate favorite ship, the 757 just tells me you have incredible drive, know what you want and how to get there. Part of my family heritage is from Norway (back to the early 1800s) so thanks for the vids on that country. I never doubted you nor your skills and knowledge from the first PF and PM flying days on the Embraer's and now you are still climbing that personal and professional trail. I am so proud of you and your vids have given me much joy during some of the worse down time recently. Did Sam shoot any of this video? Know you will be in the left seat soon enough and I do hope I can catch a United flight with you in the 'front office' at some point. Be well and continue to fly safe.

If I ever see a 757 or 767 coming in to Dulles from rt. 267, I'll wave to the cockpit in case it's you. Congrats on your journey so far, man.

United is lucky to have you, Swayne. I hope your interviewers realized that and had good answers for you when you asked about filming videos as a potential United pilot. You're a fantastic ambassador for the airline and industry.

the 752 and the 763 are beautiful and iconic aircraft despite their troubled pasts. I am planning on going to flight school and getting a pilots license soon and this is a huge inspiration.

Quality video . I hope to fly the 757/76 one day for United or Delta. So this video is very relevant. I recently passed up an opportunity to fly one but for a cargo carrier. I passed on it for an Airbus gig while I time build to get accepted to delta. This is inspiration and the production quality is A1! Have fun and congrats.

Congratulatuons on making it to the 757/767. the 757-200 with the RR RB211 engine is one of my all time favourite air frames. here in the UK they are slowly phasing them out of service.

Thanks bro. Great video. The reason I want to learn and get my private pilot license is because I was having some problems at my current job and my career in transportation. I wasn't getting pay enough, secondly, I wasn't respected at what I was doing. So, I thought "you have to find something, that no one in the world is going to mess with you". Third, I ask myself "What do you like?", "What do you enjoy?" Answer: Traveling, and I enjoy flying. Not bad for someone in was scared to fly when I was young. Currently, Studying: Glen Private pilot F.A.A. Knowledge test prep and ASA Private pilot test prep getting ready for my FAA written test at the same time. Its going to good. Thank you again! Awesome the best!

Thank you so much for your VERY WELL made videos. I haven't seen any of yours lately but did watch a few of when you were flying for Mokele. My wife is a UNITED FA (hired Nov 95). She doesnt do too much international but since coming back from the Covid furlows, her seniority allows her to hold LAX-Hawaii now. Congratulations on your career. I dont know you but I'm proud of you. Maybe one day, my wife will be on your crew out or EWR.

Swayne I'm totally excited and stoked for you and your new journey with United. I was at UA for 23 years EWR based as Aircraft Maintenance, starting with Continental Airlines. Wish I were still there to meet you up in terminal C!! I'll keep watching your awesome videos and hopefully be able to meet you someday!! I'm truly inspired by your story, which drives me to finish up my ratings and pursue my dream of being in the flight deck. Thank you

As someone almost halfway through their hours grind to ATP this is the perfect motivational video to keep making my post work 4-6hr rides worth it. United is a hopeful landing spot for me post regionals due to the hubs. Keep the videos coming!
