Whats good guys! I knew the day would come to run my first Marathon event. I certainly did not expect it to go as badly as this.
I am still incredibly proud to go out and do this but I certainly would attack this challenge again but differently.
I hope you enjoyed this video, if it inspires you to go out and try one, then you are in fact, just as crazy as me ;)

See you on the next one. 🫡

For a first marathon and with all the issues you had, you still got a sub 4! Amazing work and what you will have learned from your first will absolutely ensure that the next one you do will go so much smoother. I’ve done over 15 marathons now (I much prefer halves really) and can say that you never stop learning and tweaking things. Superb stuff and you did that the hard way! I would suggest giving Manchester a go. Did it for the first time this year and it’s a great flat fast course and so well supported and you could definitely meet any target goal you have on it. Atmosphere is great and I think you would fully enjoy. Again, well done Rhys- you showed how hard marathons are but also showed the determination and drive to get to the finish line too and didn’t edit out all the shitty feelings that you had during it (which we all get trust me, and I loved seeing the raw honesty of it) Brilliant video!

15 marathons! Wow. That’s is insanely impressive. Ok I will certainly look at Manchester. I would also like to try one abroad, I hear Amsterdam is flat and good for PBs. And thank you :) very kind to comment and I am really happy you enjoyed the video. Hopefully I can keep it up :) thanks again!

@@rhysluxfordfit I’ve done Amsterdam. It was my first ever marathon as I wanted to pick something flat for my first and away from the UK in case I collapsed or made an ass of myself and so no-one would know who I am 😂. I actually did it 3 times as I enjoyed the event so much. You start and finish in the Olympic stadium too which is superb! Definitely recommended!

Agreed - as a 7-time marathoner (9 if you include me doing the course "for fun" not during race day) - I think this is the most realistic depiction of what it's like to do a marathon. I am still learning with each one I complete! Rhys, I'm sure your next will be so much more pleasant.

A couple of Imodium tablets 1 hour before race start will sort the stomach issues. I used to have the same issues around mile 9/10 but once I started taking tablets, the issues stopped. Best wishes on the next run.

Well done getting to the finish. Marathons arnt easy and they don't get any easier with an injury but take pride that you decided to keep going anyway. My ankle went at 23 miles at Edinburgh and I had the same decision to make and I think that's the biggest plus I took away is that I didn't give up. Always another marathon to enter.

Congratulations man, marathons are hard as it is and testing but that Milton Keynes 1 was next level was intense very twisty tight course with multiple hills. Much like countryside running down by that canal and through the country roads few dodgy speedbumoa along the way and that weird looped course. I ran it to was such experience finishing in no dons stadium was awesome. You done well getting through that mate and respect with the time may not be what you wanted but still a strong time to be proud off in a 1st marathon. Mk was my 2nd ran London 2 years previous and I ran a 12 minute PB at Milton Keynes 4:31:29 in the clock for me in the end

Thank you man! When I signed up to the MK marathon, I was under the impression it was an easy one. But when I got closer to it, many people told me it’s certainly not the easiest one to do 😂. And nice, glad to hear you are still committing to more marathons, many people never do one again, maybe due to the trauma 😂. Thanks for commenting :)

Fair play Rhys with overcoming all those issues! And a sub 4 first marathon is excellent. I had a recent bout of runner’s diarrhoea to the point that I had to run all my runs very near home as I never knew when I’d need an emergency toilet stop. Very annoying isn’t it? Totally spoiled my running. As you say - you know what you need to eat. There are some great carb loading videos out there - I use one guy’s method religiously and have never suffered in a race with bad guts as a result. Hope the bike went well.
@rhysluxfordfit
@rhysluxfordfit 2 месяца назад
Hey Conrad! Yes I have do the same thing, or at least make sure I am running by some Forrest’s 😂 I would prefer running over cycling if I didn’t have these toilet issues, so it does totally spoil the running experience. Do you mind sharing who this person is, I’d check them out. And yes the cycle went well, was super tough, not as fast as last year but stay tuned currently editing the vlog :)

Here from a suggested algorithm, congrats on finishing. Personally, i had to cut back on my fiber content, especially the day before a really long run. I also pop an immodium before a race if things are feeling suspicious 😂 Try to experiment with your food intake, unfortunately some of us, just have that issue.
@rhysluxfordfit
@rhysluxfordfit 2 месяца назад
Hey :) thanks for watching and commenting! I am glad the algorithms are working then haha. Well I did actually record what foods I have taken out my diet and fibre a couple days before was one of them, also no more coffee and of course alcohol, but didn’t want to make the video too long. Never tried Imodium, do you actually think it works? And are there any side effects that could affect your performance? Gotta love the topic convo we are having 😂
@missingmimic
@missingmimic 2 месяца назад
@rhysluxfordfit I have had decent success with it, it's an American brand maybe? Anything like it would work, it's just an anti diarrheal over the counter pill here. The only side effect is it can slow your digestive tract down a bit and you may need an extra day to get uh "moving" again 😂 Good luck though, you already seem to be eliminating the right things to help 👍
