Another item I was curious about and excited to try for you guys. It's not a brand name, but this Alcohol Stove looks pretty close to the Trangia stove. I use Isopropyl. It was pretty cool to try, but I didn't like the result from the flame. I wonder if it was the fuel I used. It's a learning curb for me, so any advice or comments are appreciated. Enjoy the video! First suggestion for better performance. Ethanol (denatured alcohol) is more expensive but burns hotter and lasts longer. It's what I use in my stove.

You should use Denatured Alcohol or HEET in the yellow bottle if you want a cleaner burn without soot.

Denatured alcohol isn’t sold in my area by federal law. Heet is available in Canada either. I wish they both were. I still see some other alternatives though.

👍 .. good demo. Some fuels burn hotter and 'soot' less than others. There is plenty info out there indicating which is which. I suspect that most of these 'clones' originate from under one roof .. the required 'brand name' added at the end according to the Marketer's preference. That said, if it works, then A-OK.

Nice! I just bought my first alcohol stove too from Amazon. Mine came in the same box yours did and same brown bag so I thought it was going to be the same stove but mine is called crazy heat from what I understand most of the stoves that come inside the wind screen are basically Trangias.

That's awesome! Congratulations on getting your first alcohol stove as well! I think most of the stoves that we have, have different names, but are pretty much the same product. They are somewhat generic but so similar. The Trangia is supposed to be one of the originals. It's been around for years from what I've read and seen. I think I might get it down the road just to compare. It's exciting trying different fuels too!

The soot is pretty typical when you use isopropyl alchohol. Try methanol stove fuel. You can also buy it as the yellow "Heet" found in gas stations or auto parts stores. It burns hotter and much cleaner than isopropyl. Leaves pots virtually spotless.

I'm going to take your advice for sure after this video. "Heet" isn't available in my region at this time, but I do have alternatives as far as brands go with the same ingredients. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.

The name isn't important, the main ingredient, methanol, is. You'll get much better performance. I use the Trangia knockoff burners a lot. They work great for me.

Or even use bio-ethanol. There quite a few comparisons between methanol, ethanol, iso-propyl, and ethanol edges out methanol slightly and isn't as toxic to us.

@@KeirMurphy I just picked up a gas line antifreeze which both Ethanol and isopropyl. I’m going to try that next. I’d like to try bio-ethanol if I can find it.

@@ItsMePaulyC I'd love to hear how that went. Mixes of ethanol and methanol are said to be best on forums. I've not tried that yet myself
